I know that it is probably mentioned on official source and I know that it is usally the case, but I have my doubts. When compared to artwork explictly stated to be hers, they don't really match, especially some of them. The artwork used on the final volume 12 for example looks noyhig like Sako's style. On most cases te faces doesn't look the same aste designs and other stuff drawn by her. Especially on profile shots. I know after the first few episodes she barely did animation direction for the show. She is mentioned on episode 1 to 4, 17,25 and 26. We also know that most, if not all, of the merchandise artwork is also not done by her. I know it has been a while, but does domebody know or can find an official source that say explocitly thess were done by her. It might be on the DVD covers even, but I don't own them as of now to check. Thank you in advanve for the answers.

Yes, she drew the covers. That's why they're so horrible. :P

Take, for example, the vol. 7 cover. Just compare her initial concept in sketch form with the final one. It's the same style. Same weird proportions. Same bug-eyed face.

Then I guess it must be some coloring/shading thing, because some of them looks nothing like other promo art done by her.

Her sketch is still 1000 times better than the finished product.

*goes back to repressing the memory of how horrible the BD covers looked*
Yeah, it does...it looks like whoever colored it or something did it all in one shot/attempt (I mean, that's how the animation of Crystal looked to me, like it was drawn in one attempt without different methods, erasing errors)...

The eyes are weird indeed, but I still like this so much more then the basic and generic season 3 art.

Her initial concept is better because she chose a simpler pose whereas the aerial shot she went with for the final one is much harder to pull off in terms of proportions. It's still hard to believe Toei hired such an obviously incompetent artist for Sailor Moon.

*sirens go off like in Kill Bill* *having flashbacks* Oh, the horror! ::eeklez: :grey: :ninja:

In the initial sketch, it's like she was aware of her capabilities as an artist, thus choosing a "safe" pose. But when it came time for the final product, she got a little ahead of herself. But I guess at that point she knew that Toei would approve whatever crap she turned out, so I guess why not take a few risks?

Honestly, thinking back to those covers and season 1/2, I really don't get what the hold up is with the Dream movies. The delays can't be because Toei cares about the quality of the end product...

Season 3 wasn't any better. At least Salo's design were interprete well by good animators. Season 3 looked wonky most of the time. Anyway....

Toei has to care about it some. It still generates revenue. How much they care and how much money SM currently makes is still up for debate but if they didn't care, then why bother planning a movie or even entertaining the Universal attractions or sending a live musical to America. The market for Usagi is still there. I just think they probably put everything in the wrong hands.

I think season 3 was better, also in terms of the framing scenes. I didn't notice this huge amount of ugly compositions in season 3. Do you remember the scene where SM fight Zoisite in season 1?

This frame is trying so hard an fails in many ways:

Besides those problems (Zoisite's left arm there is also longer than his right), what is Moon even doing there? Is she acting like Silver Surfer here:

^ The visual length difference of Zoisite's arms is supposed to be caused by viewing angle, while Moon is holding her head w/ both hands.

but it's so badly drawn, so flat, stiff and bidimensional that you don't really get the viewing angle.

it's also weird where they decided to cut the characters, just the feet. it's a strange decision and doesn't look balanced.
