Well the guy at the panels says : "you can all read on the internet what's happened with the incident of the US version" and asks the audience if they know it so I'm guessing it's the Uranus/Neptune thing.
He also says it's something that happened just after they reached the licensing agreement this year so it has to be the problem with the pamphlet.
People are unsure if this may affect the SM release in Spain since Naoko blocked everything related to the SM anime they got the license.
Anyways, it seems I'm gonna have to wait to see SM in my language again, 10 years haven't been enough

Lots of people seem to be speculating it has to do with the Uranus/Neptune pamphlet drama?
It'll be morbidly funny if twitter outrage is the real reason Sailor Moon goes back into licensing hell.

But seriously, I hope whoever's responsible for this decision quickly realizes how catastrophic this will be for the brand.
If that will lead to Viz losing license, i will be more than happy, its been one disaster after another (Terrible quality for Classic, banhammer from Viz on Youtube fanvideos, and now this...how could they let this happpen? Haruka and Michiru being "cousins" basically became meme and symbol of dub hilarious censorship)

I will never stop cackling if Toei declines to renew Viz's license in the next year or so when it's presumably set to expire, and they end up not being able to dub the rest of Crystal. (Well, depending on how things pan out, I guess they might still get to dub the Dream arc movies, but if Crystal ever gets around to doing Stars, they probably wouldn't get to, thus another English dub missing out on the fifth arc.)

But seriously, freezing the licensing to the anime over a minor furor over a pamphlet snafu (that isn't really even a snafu since Toei themselves have labeled Uranus and Neptune's relationship as "friendship" in the past) seems a little hard to believe. There must be more to the story than just that. If I had to guess, I'd say that since there have just been so many mistakes with Viz's handling of the series, Naoko wants to put further licensing in other markets on hold for the time being to do a review and ensure future releases go off without so many hiccups. But who knows?

I just hope this won't affect the production of Eternal movies in any way. I honestly doubt it is because of some silly booklet, there must be more to it.
I doubt that, surely companies like this have people appointment for this sort of PR stuff or license issues.

I don't think Viz US is the only one to blame.

Season 1: an episode where the sound was missing (half of episode 44), a censored French version while there is a full dubbing.
Film R: bad summary.
Season 3: No bonus cards are present.
The season 4: 5 digipack with a bad name of the series (Sailor Moon S instead of SuperS), two disks changed because of sound problem and a #.
Sailor Moon Crystal, two diques changed because problem with the timing of subtitles (constant offset).

It was really a massacre in France, no care in the series.

I think it can be related to a whole, on the complete management of Viz Media.
The "Friendship" was there from the beginning in the official documents, so for me, that's not the cause.

Jeez, Viz's worst crimes were the video quality and a swapped shot in episode 80. Missing half of an episode's audio is just crazy.
Brazil's first release was pretty awful too, if I'm remembering correctly.

Taste and colors. When the series arrived at Kazé France, the fans loved the publisher, beautiful, etc. Now that it's over, the fans have rebelled and said it was lamentable.

The day of the announcement, Kazé France, blackmail French fans: buy or you will not have the following.
Basically: buy our boxes to vomit and we will do the rest.

We were insulted by pro Kazé, because we denounced repeated mistakes ...

If the job is to [BLEEP], must say.

Wait, Viz accidentally swapped a shot in episode 80? How did that happen, and what point in the episode did it occur?

In Australia, they did a montage as well.
Opening + Intro + Episode + Ending + Teaser
While normally it's: Intro + Op + Episode + Ed + Teaser

No doubt a mistake by Viz in the editing they wanted to do.

I think that Viz will probably still get to dub the upcoming Crystal movies and whatever they decide to do for the Stars arc. We have nothing to worry about.

That may have been a source issue because when they got the Japanese upscale for the SuperS & Stars' discs, the intro & OP were left alone which wasn't the case with whatever was used when they posted those two seasons on Hulu 4 years ago.

I think they did mention that they had received the material in separate parts and not full episodes. Charlene had also mentioned the materials given were tapes, which confused me.

I also do remember seeing somewhere, I believe the Hulu version of the R episode where scenes were swapped, where we could see the scene labels on the screen which indicated that they received, or at least encoded, the video in segments.

I really don’t think it has anything to do with the booklet. My guess it has to do with streaming. Viz has an exclusive with Hulu for Sailor Moon that they negotiated back when they licensed the show. Streaming has evolved considerably since then. I’m guessing Toei is trying to hold out on a new streaming deal and the Hulu contract is the hold up. That’s just my hunch.

I inquired of good people in the middle: it would be related to the management of Viz Media (Europe + Us), errors, and other things we did not want to tell me precisely.

Thomas Guillemin (https://www.facebook.com/thomas.guillemin.56) In France, there was also, insults on the part of Thomas Guillemin (Kazé France) vis-à-vis the French dubbing team (90) he said: that actors over 40 years it was not cool. In the sense: good for the hospice.

If we add all the burrs of Viz Media, an error in a booklet, can not be the cause of a blocked license but a chain of factors.

So they had problems with France reusing an old dub, dubbing a few stuff that were cut, but had no problem with the Crystal Spanish dub using the ancient abuellas?

They had no problem with the old french cast, they did not want to take it back for a cost issue.

They took a discounted cast for unpublished dubbing (series 5, movies S & SuperS, Ami first love), because not possible to make profitable (no TV broadcast) ; that's the real reason.

The new City Hunter movie, all the cast is back (and yet they are over 40-50 years old), the remake of Captain Tsubasa, too, everyone came back. Why ? Movie distribution (cinema) for City Hunter, so profitable, Captain Tsubasa, TV broadcast.

Kazé France are known for not being respectful.

Still.. I’m a bit doubtful it has anything to do with the QC issues or the French dubbing issues given the timeline. France finished their last Stars dub for a few years now and has only been putting out repackaged releases. Viz had it the worst with quality control on their season 1 set.. back in 2014. I really doubt that any of this is the reason for the hold, on its own or cumulative. Toei or Naoko would have put their foot down sooner. It makes no sense to suddenly do it now after one region (France) has been some with their run for a few years and Viz is finally releasing their last set in the US.

My hunch is that with the Toei HD masters now available and done, they’re holding back to repurpose their licensing package to either include a better streaming deal (ie Netflix which has had good luck with Toei) or to relaunch it all consistently across the board when Eternal comes out. With Hulu being primarily owned by Disney now and only available in a few markets, their exclusive contract with Viz from 2014 poses a problem.
