Does your country have prejudice on male Sailor Moon fans?

They do have roles just not the savior of the day. Even comic relief like Umino has shown his heroic side through the series

It's one thing for a guy to like the show, that I can understand. But, to me I find it weird when guys collect Sailor Moon stuff especially the really girly stuff like the dolls, the clothes, jewelry, the wands, the lockets, etc. I also find it to be especially weird when you see guys cosplaying as the Sailor Guardians. Then again I'm creeped out by drag queens. I'm a girl who likes The Vision of Escaflowne, the Full Metal Panic series, Death Note, Mobile Fighter G Gundam, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, and Neon Genesis Evangelion and I like those shoes for the stories and the characters, not the mechas. I don't really care for Marvel, but I don't care if other girls like it.

I understand your feeling, but at least I think buying Sailor Moon stuff isn't really an issue, it's their choice and it didn't harm anybody. Nor did they try to attack other groups or force you to support them.

The last 2 female admins had personality disorders. At least the second one had a sense of humor and let the members here have fun.

Then there was also that 1 female moderator who wasn't shy posting her own personal drama rather than do her job.

Let's face it. Anything outside of the established 'norm' by the masses is gonna be considered weird by at least someone, and plenty of people attack what they can't understand. I think this kind of crap is more hurtful when you're young and desperate to fit in. As folks get older it becomes more common to not give a crap what anybody else thinks.

Of course, we can all be a bit more outspoken and honest about our interests online, so that provides a little balance, at least.

I am a man, gay. As a kid, I spent a lot of money on Sailor Moon toys, the girly stuff.

Now, as an adult, I deeply regret it because I could have invested the money on the stock market, or done something better with it than throwing it at TOEI.

exactly, since the 90s I been judged from here to Timbuctoo about my love of SM and that didn't stop me cause I chose to ignore them
but I won't lie some of it did get to me in the beginning I was still a preteen [meaning I had less thick skin] at the time after all

miss thing, i'm talking about gp perception; i'm sure there are plenty of straight men among the core sailor moon fanbase who grew up with it, but in terms of gp perceptions, sailor moon deters straight male fans (which i'm 100% ok with lmfao). there's a definite metaphorical barrier of entry to potential fans who might be interested in the storylines of the manga but would be deterred by a lot of the content of the 90s anime, save the classic finale, death busters plot-focused episodes, nehelenia arc, and final clash with galaxia.

overall, sailor moon as a franchise is not targeted towards straight male anime fans at all, and it doesn't really appeal to that core demographic (not counting longtime fans who stuck around since the 90s/00s). the only magical girl shows that have a largely male following are, well, specifically targeted towards men (this recent wave of dark seinen magical girl shows), and it's often because the men in question are creepy weirdos who are for some reason really into seeing young anime girls engage in brutal violence. i think if toei had invested the proper time and resources into crystal, it could have been this amazing mature magical girl show that appealed to an incredibly wide array of groups, but that is unfortunately not our reality.

Also, I don't think the 90s anime has intense action at all lol. There are a few really good fight scenes, but between budget constrains, censorship, and male animators who were too cowardly to let the girls be the planet-busting ass-kicking goddesses Naoko envisioned them to be, most of the fight scenes ended up being really lame, and that's part of why the general public has this misconception that Sailor Moon is "waving-wands-and-saving-this-super-cheerful-world."

I really wish one day that we don't have to worry about being laughed or even picked for some entertainment we like, nor do we have to be forced to like/support some works as well.

Not many ppl like the manga, sure, but same for female fans just with probably a larger percentage. Many ppl do enjoy the filler episodes, remember it's such a HUGE hit.

Overall, Sailor Moon moved a huge step towards straight male fans for its action and serious main plot, which was ahead of 90% of the shojo anime at that time. Again Straight male fans don't care too much about who is fighting as long as there are intensity. Sure Sailor Moon's MotW formula did look a bit outdated today but it was not a problem at that time. Not to say the finale/mini bosses are not handled like that.

Like I've said before, by that time's standards, Sailor Moon's action was good enough to attract male fans, the only problem is just that using almost the same execution move every week, but tons of teen anime were like that. And it was better than the manga, one of the reasons we male kid could not get too deep with in it was that the fighting scenes were poorly drawn most of the time. Of course I finished it when I got older.


No you can't sum such a huge group like that. Many many straight male fans love different senshi because they fit their taste, especially the transformation scenes. They didn't want to bring it up because they were afraid of being called for "you fall for the sex appeal".

To me it's more clear, Michiru is my favorite and one of the MOST beautiful anime girls I've seen.

There was a very kind gentleman here back in 2014 who was straight, loved Sailor Mars, thought she was beautiful, collected Sailor Mars merchandise—and gave 0 cares about what people thought of him.

Yes, many male fans like Rei, Ami was also among many ppl's favorite "ideal girlfriend".

I believe I posted in a topic like ages ago? Growing up there was definitely a stigma surrounding guys enjoying "girly" shows which of course, included Sailor Moon. It's one of the reasons why I never got to actually watch it fully until 2014. I was teased for liking stuff like Sailor Moon, dolls, you name it. Over time, things have improved to a degree but still aren't where they should be.

Actually I never understand why so many fans dislike anime Rei. She was pretty much the 2nd important role in Classic.

My 2nd favorite senshi is Makoto though, she looks so cool as a tall heroine after transformation, and got very cool attack but at the same time is also a cute girl.

As long as you are not hurting anyone, you should live your life like you want;
