If you enjoy watching it and the studio has—admittedly—proposed to animate all 5 arcs, does it matter if it’s a failure or if others don’t like it?

After that, it's all in the contract. Toei's clauses regarding Naoko Takeuchi, for example. If the project is canceled, if Toei has to pay money, or whatever.

Sailor Moon Eternal took 4 years to hit Japanese screens. It is very very long.

Dragon Ball Super has barely finished broadcasting on TV (march 2018), than at the end of the year (december 2018), there was Dragon Ball Super Broly in the cinema.

Why 4 years for Sailor Moon Eternal? This is the question that must be asked. Profitable? Not profitable? Or did Toei prefer to earn money on other popular licenses to avoid the huge loss? Especially since they called on another studio, it should not be forgotten.

The success of Sailor Moon Crystal is still mixed on Japanese soil, what can still save the series is the sale abroad, and the goodies, but in Japan, Sailor Moon is not the big animated license (the 90 series almost knew the cancellation - what saved it, the goodies).

Après cela, tout est dans le contrat. Les clauses de Toei concernant Naoko Takeuchi, par exemple. Si le projet est annulé, si Toei doit payer de l'argent, ou autre chose.
Ah bon? No estaría tan seguro si fuera usted.

Naoko Takeuchi owns the manga and the 90’s anime. I am speculating here, but I believe her company has more of a saying than TOEI ever will.

It probably took Sailor Moon so long is because Toei doesn't own it. They have to do whatever Naoko says and also work around Bandai. She's very protective of her work, as she should be.

Another reason is because Toei doesn't just produce one anime. It does a lot of things from Dragon Ball to PreCure and beyond. They have to use their time and resources correctly I'd imagine.

Also, making sure that contract is correct can take sometime. Naoko most likely reads that fine print now...lol

Afterwards, license 90 belongs to Naoko Takeuchi, but Toei still has a share in it even if it must be small.
Why Naoko Takeuchi went to see the Toei for Sailor Moon Crystal, if she was 100% owner of something, she could have turned her back, and looked elsewhere.
Let's be honest, it's not the crazy love between Toei / Takeuchi. So there is something that makes her have to go through Toei for Sailor Moon.
Because if I were Takeuchi, I don't like Toei, I will go elsewhere to create the new series. Especially since there are better studios than Toei.

Maybe too protective, for my taste. Because when I read an interview with the writers of season 1 and 2. They had good ideas to exploit and they were ordered to use the manga as a reference, which was a shame.
The changes are certainly due to Takeuchi (the Shitenno for example).
Initially, it was not planned a remake, but a sequel to the 90 series according to Osabu, and Kotono. So from there, I think Takeuchi went on the attack to force the remake and not a sequel.

I've said in the past that there is a clause in the contract that keeps Naoko and Toei bound together. I was told on here she had brought out Sailor Moon, which she did to some degree but perhaps Sailor Moon can't be done by any other company unless it is authorized by the original creator of the anime and as a coproduction.

After all, the anime version of Sailor Moon is Toei's property but perhaps Naoko PNP obtained further licensing for the original characters so they can't create new content without her approval.

If Naoko is that protective though (Ive seen other posters mention she has been labeled "difficult " to work with in other mentions) as you say you saw in the interview, she may not want another version of Sailor Moon until after the anime is done exactly as her manga.

After StarS movie (or whatever they do) its up in the air if she will allow another Sailor Moon series. Id like one but I'm squinting my eyes at the thought.

So far i love crystal i have always wanted a manga true adaptation and so far i love it. I only watched the anime when I was able to but the books i waited eagerly for and spent all my pocket money on them and the art edition books( they were soft covers of the art books and 2 of those were roughly one artbook volume) There are always people who prefer the 90s anime and want crystal be the same never mind them if you enjoy it yourself.

I feel you are speculating here.

Nobody knows anything about Naoko Takeuchi’s relationship with TOEI and the agreements between both parties.

There are a lot of scenarios.

A possibility is that Naoko asked TOEI to switch the format from TV series to film to improve the quality of the material—and that is a speculation.

Not going to nitpick but I think the animation in these scenes is somewhat stiff.
I almost couldn't see the in-between frames, although they are there. It looks like she turned 180 degrees suddenly.

These scenes need more frames.

Chibi-Usa head seems to lack something. Or because her face is too big?

Where are transparent sleeves? They couldn't follow the character design properly?
I'm under the strong impression we're not going to rewatch it and don't even think much about it in 2 years, just like most of us already do to Crystal.
Eternal Sailor Moon's reveal and the Outers' attacks look like powerpoint presentations.

Is this picture real or fanart? The scale is not correct (Saturn and Neptune are just too big LOL)

About the Outers' attacks in the trailer, I think they are not showing all the frames, as they did with some of the other trailers, showing inner's attacks and tfs too fast and "jumpy", skiping frames.

Real, from part 2. Its nice but yes... Neptune height doesnt make any sense. You can see Setsuna and Hotaru are behind so thats why Setsuna looks smaller when she is as tall as Haruka but Uranus and Neptune are in the same place ( Neptune’s shoes are a bit taller but anyway her height is totally wrong as she is much shorter than Uranus.

In the manga, saturn grows up really fast once she gets her senshi powers back. Starts as a child and at the end of the movie she looks like a teen.

The picture above Im sure it is when the outers arrive to help the inner senshi at the garden. The problem is that in the trailer you can see the battle against Zirconia with all the senshi and Saturn is next to Pluto and she looks tiny there while in this pic that takes place some chapters before ( so she should be smaller ), she looks taller and has a bigger body. Doesnt make any sense at all compared to the picture above.

And the problem with the attacks of the outers seen in the trailer are just poor drawn when they are in middle and full body shots. The close ups look amazing, specially Uranus. Neptune looks ok too but you can see some weird cuts, guess its cause its cut in purpose so no problem there. The problem is that the full body shots look pretty basic, specially Pluto who has really bad drawn faces in some frames seen in the trailer ( she has 2 good ones and 2 pretty bad ).

Mercury’s transformation blows everyone else’s transformation out of the water (based on the trailers). I think the water funnel at the end of the new Aqua Rhaposdy looks powerful and effective, but it’s just missing some pizazz. It would’ve been better if they incorporated some of the glittery water tentacles from the 90s (like maybe the tentacles could spiral into a funnel). Seeing the two versions side by side, I think combining them would’ve been great.

Au départ, c'était pas prévu un remake, mais une suite de la série 90 selon Osabu, et

Osabu and even Kotono had announced that it was not a remake.

Vous avez tort.

There were vague news about a new “Sailor Moon” anime in 2013, yes, but from the very beginning it was established that it would be an adaptation from the manga.

"Not much else was learned aside from it being based on the old anime but not being a remake, which is fairly vague."

What we can interpret is that they were not remaking the 90s show. And honestly, that would be even more pointless than a 1:1 manga adaptation.

Stiff movements. Maybe I should call them "slideshows" for better comprehension?
That’s not what slideshow or powerpoint animation refers to. It’s referring to static images with minimum effects (panning, zooming, or just lip flaps with nothing else moving etc.). There’s usually NO real movement because that’s the opposite of what a slideshow actually is, which is just static images that make up a presentation.

Stiff animation is just stiff animation.
