Well there's also the idea of an live action american adaption. (I would prefer HBO MAX takes a shot at Sailor Moon as I can see them being faithful while adding something new to the franchise)

Yes, Sailor Moon just doesnt translate well the way it is into live series ( and yes, PGSM is horrendous to me ).

It should had to be readapted reimagining lots of the things trying to make them look good in live action. The sailor suits, the transformations, the attacks, even the hair. But If you change everything then it stops being Sailor Moon. Get rid of the talking cats... Imagine how to translate Sailor Moon or Chibi Moon into live action without looking like a cosplay.

I think it should go trough a process like the one Batman experienced with Cristopher Nolan.

I would never watch anything like this. They will completely butcher the whole experience.
I wouldn’t hate the idea of a live action sailor moon so long as it was in Japan by a respected Japanese director and with Japanese actors and had a subtle artistic approach than something like that winx show. I don’t want a westernised sailor moon. We have dc, marvel etc. For that.

Mika ninagawa would be a fantastic director.

Well... this is always a very controversial debate but even tough they are japanese cause they are born in Japan and are japanese, their looks are not asian at all so to me this has always been the main reason Sailor Moon looks bad with asian actors. It's not only the color of the hair or the eyes but the whole face with super big rounded eyes. You can not match that with an asian actor without looking fake in my opinion.

You cannot match it with human beings though. No matter the race.

We already have PGSM, why do you guys think they would ever do another Sailor Moon live action in Japan if their first attempt apparently flopped enough for Toei to forget it ever existed?

Wasn’t Sailor Moon based off of those campy tokusatsu shows in the first place? Like Poitrine and such

I actually thought all the actresses in PGSM suited their characters perfectly. I don’t think race should determine whether it’s ‘convincing’ or not. It’s fantasy, after all. As long as the actress suits the role they are playing I don’t see why everyone makes such a fuss. Do I think the wigs were a bit much? Sure. But I think I would worry more over how to make a convincing Luna over a convincing Usagi

What did you expect? It was a live action kid show.
I don't mean ust the live action. I love the musicals and we have seen the costumes recreated many times. They look cheap in real life. Sailor Moon is not comedy and in 2020s campy is not in vogue. All the props and costumes look great in manga/ anime but made of actual material makes them look ridiculous.

Sailor Moon is camp period. Like no real person except like five people on this forum thinks it some super serious story, when the cast fights in skimpy versions of school girl outfits while launching attacks like “Starlight Honeymoon Therapy Kiss.”
While it is ok, in live action is extremely campy, borderline parody. I highly doubt it will be any more successful now than before.

So basically no to a sequel.
No to a live action adaptation.
This fandom hates CGI animation so that’s probably a no too.
No to any spin-offs.

So just 1:1 anime adaptations of the manga for the rest of our lives? If that’s the case just let it end after the Stars arc. No one, whether it’s old or new fans, would actually want that.

I think a sequel can work, as long as they do something new and not rehash old ideas. If they do another reboot with the OG story it should feel fresh. In my opinion it needs to rest. Too much is not good. Look at Cute Honey, they completely exhausted it.

I imagine a US adaption would go with the Wonder Woman (2017) route with the Sailor Suits and make them armored.

This feels like a fusion of Wonder Woman and Magic Knight Rayearth. You can't really call this "Sailor" Moon anymore, but it's neat.

On the subject of a new story, they could always just do ones that take place at different points during the series if they don't wanna go past the Stars finale.
