Both. Its like ordering a pizza and everyone wants different toppings but instead of buying separate pizzas, you putt everything on one pizza and when it finally arrives it's just lukewarm but hey, you all are really hungry...

They most certainly didn't try to please fans who are sick already of the same manga story being reprinted, adapted, novelized, animated, for three decades in a row, always with the same plot, same characters, same dialogue lines.

Honestly for me their ways of trying to please everyone just, kinda baffle me. Like they clearly went to a lot of effort to visually make it resemble the 90's anime more, with the character designs and the attacks and transformations and such, but as Mara said they didn't change the fact it's still 1:1 is based on the manga, to the degree in TuxedoUnmasked's review he mentions that they seem to have even kept what were probably typos. I always thought Eternal looked nice but I never really cared about the superficial similarities, when it came out I was looking for if they did anything really different from the manga and I found out nope and it just kinda guaranteed I didn't really care. It feels like an effort to please everyone that didn't really fully satisfy anyone? Personally I don't really care that it LOOKS more like the 90's anime when it still doesn't feel like it from a writing and character perspective, whereas I've also seen people on the opposite end who wanted a straight animated adaption of the manga annoyed at the visual similarities to the 90's anime.

It's little bit of both. Fans of the manga are finally getting a more accurate page to screen adaptation of the "Dream" story arc. 90's anime fans love the (slightly) realistic proportions of the character designs done by Kazuko Tadano. Ms. Tadano was the one whom worked closely with Naoko, after all.

In my opinion, it attempts to please fans from the 90’s anime while being truthful to what Crystal was: a faithful, 1:1 adaptation of the manga.

And while it’s true that the manga has been reprinted many times, it is also true that we never had an animated version of the manga.

What some of the replies this thread has gotten suggest is that fans want a new story.... a brand new arc.... and if it happens, I will be happy, but I don’t think it’s going to happen.

That's probably better that way, considering what happened to other 90s anime if you create a sequel. DBS is so extremely horrible.

We would have to find a sequel that fits well with the end of season 5, frankly even me, I can not find one ... She has overcome the source of evil, it ends the series well.
Dragon Ball Super is an aberration to me. It sucks, ugly to watch, and the scenarios don't fly high. Goku was interesting in DB / DBZ, in Super he the IQ of a placenta.
He is in full contradiction of the Goku before, he who was funny and serious at the same time, in DBS he spends his time laughing, and not taking anything seriously.

It seems to me, personally, that fans are eager for a new story, a new arc, a spinoff, but the odds of that happening are minimal. We’ll get the Stars movie, which concludes the manga, and that’s it. I will personally be surprised if we get some kind of sequel or prequel. Not saying that it may never happen (never say never), but I will be surprised if it does happen.

Also Digimon Adventure Tri, Last Evolution Kizuna supposedly was a better film but that was after 6 movies that were mostly terrible.

Speaking of Dragon Ball Super, the ongoing manga version has since raised the level of stupid with the most recent arcs.

There is nothing I would love more than a sequel to “Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card” (the anime ended just when it was starting to get intriguing, major cliffhanger) and I am uncertain if we’ll get one—the manga is still going, but I am uncertain.

What is there to say about “Sailor Moon”? A manga that ended in 1997. We are lucky to be getting those movies.

I watched Clear Card, and I didn't really like it. I don't see where the mangaka is going with her story, and we have no info on a sequel. I have the impression that it is the continuation to make money.

For once the 90s fans could be a bit more considered. You have the 90s show, all 200 episodes. The manga fans got Crystal. Wouldn't it be unfair to give us, the manga fans 3 season of close manga adaptation, only to drop the ball during the arc that has been adapted least faithfully in the past... I think they already strayed enough by making the designs closer to the 90s. They look good and all, but we already lost some of the manga feel with it. If you don't like Crystal, don't watch it. It is not even a third of the amount of run time you got eith the 90s show. The manga fans have this adaptation to see the manga animated. It will most likely be our last.

This is why I prefer isekai anime like Re:Zero, That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime or Arifureta. It's magic system has more structure and doesn't contradict the plot. With the exception of Overlord and Rising Of The Shield Hero most of the protagonist had to work hard to get to where they are and has a supporting cast that compliment the hero. Well there's The Overly Cautious Hero but seeing the last episode you'll understand why he's overpowered and a douchebag.

I'm planning on watching it. Crosses my fingers it's not on the level of Tsubasa Chronicles' very lifeless and boring adaptation. Even Season 1 of Crystal has more personality.

The manga has 9 volumes and is still being published. ”Clear Card” anime started slow, but the last episodes were breathtaking. As was this scene:


And I love the manga and talk about it with people all the time.



And to not be off-topic, it seems that many “Sailor Moon” fans want a new story, a new arc, but what if Naoko actually writes a new story and then people say that it’s boring, as we’re witnessing here with a similar magical girl franchise? These are all things that have to be considered.

I thought everyone liked DBS. Or at least all my friends do.

I like it too but it's gotten to the point it's become stale. I usually just watch the fight scenes in Youtube when it actually appears in my Youtube recommendations. Super Dragonball Heroes is cool but I'm not really invested in the story. One Punch Man is another one I'm keeping away from. Also Attack On Titan is another one I'm keeping away from. LOL. I'm laughing at this one recent meme with Eren 'Don't attack during transformations' rule when you have Digimon doing that years ago.

I'm more excited with Re:Zero season 2 right now. I might just watch Deathnote soon after I watch Star Trek The Animated Series in Netflix.

Disliking Super is a pretty common sentiment, I know and have seen a lot about the problems with it, and even as someone who enjoys it, it very much has a lot of issues.

However, I got into Dragon Ball in the first place because of Fighterz, a game I'm not even sure would have existed if not for Super and the franchise's revival as a whole. For all it's flaws Super brought a lot of new things to the franchise that are popular (Zamasu and Goku Black, Hit, the Universe 6 Saiyans, Ultra Instinct, and the canon Broly for instance), and more new fans along with it. Super can be a mess but, it's a guilty pleasure for me, I really enjoy a lot of it and what it brings to the table, even if as a whole it doesn't match the original or Z. Honestly I'd much rather a series try some things that are new and fail then rely on rehashing old content till the end of time.

I don't watch Crystal and I've basically given up trying to get into the manga, I'm happy for people that are enjoying finally getting a faithful 1:1 manga adaption, I really am. ^^

But I also know by this point it's not for me and that's fine (it'd be stupid if I acted like it's not), but beyond the Stars arc adaption, I'd really like to see them try, something new. An original movie, a manga arc, hell at this point even just a new musical with an original plot again, at least as stupid and crazy as those ended up getting, they were certainly unique lol
