exactly, this is what I want too

Crystal is more manga based it should cater to manga fans

Thankfully it didn't end up like Thundercats Roar. A show that didn't cater to anyone.

As long as I remember my first wish when the classic anime finished in 1997 was that the manga one day will be adapted into an anime.

I got what I wanted ::love::... too bad some part like the short stories and Sailor V will probably never be adapted (it could have been used to satisfy the “fans” and the pacing of Crystal in general)

anyway that probably because of all of that that I’m fan of Crystal and the classic anime. Although I love PGSM too... actually the only part of SM I never really watched is SeraMyu... maybe some days :kero:

I agree with the fact that they are trying their best to please each type of fans, and it must be a pain because everyone has very strong opinions...
- Manga purists who want each pannel animated exactly as in the manga, and go on nervous breakdown if Luna's eye are not blue or if Saturn's earings are bi-colored instead of silver...
- 90 anime fans who just want Moonlight Densetsu everywhere and reharsh of same transformations we got 30 years ago...
- Crystal S1+2 fans who are still grieving Yukie Sako's design 7 years later, and loved the bug eyes and weird anatomy... and are still trying to see traces of her in all recent illustrations ("clearly this drawing has 25% sako's design, look on Sailormoon's eye secondary shadow it's obvious")
- Crystal S3 fans who liked the precurish design and more modern approach in transformations and attacks...

Honnestly it must be very hard for the staff to deal with us ^^;

I believe Eternal is really a nice balance for everyone. Anyway Naoko wanted to get her manga fully and faithfully adapted and honnesly it's totally fair because she deserves it (I love the 90's anime, but it's certainly not a faituful adaptation of her manga). Maybe once the manga will have been totally adapted, she will be more open to the idea of expanding the SM world... A bit like what Kumurada did with Saint Seiya and allowed other mangas and anime around his manga.

It all comes down to the fact that one half of the fandom loves the cuter, slice-of-life, '90s style vision vs. one corner that loves the tighter, "elegant," drama of the manga. It almost feels like they only way to please both sids would have been doing two completley different animes, but there was no chance in hell of that happening without Naoko becoming comfortable with the idea of another version taking liberties with her work.

I love both aspects of the 90’s and the manga. I’m sure Toei could make it work if they had a proper vision for where they wanted to take it. Of course there’s no pleasing everyone. People say Eternal is the most ‘pandering’ season thus far, but outside of a few purely cosmetic changes the story is the most ‘faithful’ yet.

I’m not even sure what manga fans mean when they say it’s ‘elegant’.. are they referring to only the art? The story?

Completely agreed on this, you said my opinion better than I could lol. ^ ^ From what I know (Only seen bits of it), PGSM tried to combine aspects of both (doing a more faithful and dramatic adaption but still taking cues from the anime for character focus and tone) and it did it fairly well. I think some of the musicals do a good job too. I think it's definitely possible to make something that attracts fans of both, though obviously not everyone. I know that's not what Crystal is and accept that but its attempts to "pander" were, very surface level aesthetics.

Right!

I think if you’re really into the whole ‘miracle romance’ between Usagi and Mamoru then Crystal might hit the spot for you. However if you’re like me and you value the friendship and dynamic between the girls more then I would definitely say Crystal, and to an extent the manga are weaker. I agree that PGSM struck a good balance between both the romance and friendship aspects. And the changes, for example, Minako’s character, were actually really well done.

As someone who is one of those so-called "manga purists" and hasn't seen Eternal yet (Waiting for the West to get it, I think they said sometime in the Spring) I have to know: Did the first movie cut out any parts/panel from the manga? When I initially heard they were gonna do the Dream Arc as two movies this was what I was most worried about, how much would be cut. Personally I've always desired an exact 1:1 animated manga adaption and I'm sure most fellow manga stans feel the same, most of my problems with Crystal with overall stem from it not being faithful enough, not that it's too faithful.

Us manga fans have been waiting for a manga-accurate anime adaptation for years now, especially of arcs like Dream and Stars which were especially butchered in the 90's anime and whose manga counterparts are generally agreed upon to be superior. Please just let us have this. I personally don't have any problem with the designs being closer to the 90's anime as long as they're animated well and the movies are sticking strictly to the manga with no cuts (Though I have to admit, I can do without the recycled 90's anime attack and transformation animations and "Watashitachi Naritakute" please at least try to get some all-new material and don't use 90's fan pandering as an excuse to be lazy)

The only things I read were cut are the Black Lady joke and the appearance of the Shitennou.

lmao, wow. After all of season 1's build-up of having them survive longer to get "further development" it all ended up being for nothing, and now ironically enough the Crystal Shittenou are even less plot-relevant and more forgettable then what they were attempting to "fix" in the manga.

Not going to happen and it would be stupid to do that.
