A good examle here of what I mean by profiteering.

Today I went to the supermarket and on the way back from the supermarket I called in at Lawson and they had some of the collaboration sweets in stock.

There was the 700 yen desert in a cup and the 222 yen custard flavour pudding - so I went for the custard flavour pudding just to try it once for the hell of it.

In terms of amount / flavour it was probably what from a normal brand I would expec tto pay 100 - 120 yen. I can buy larger custard puddings in a glass jar that taste better from a department store for just under 200 yen.

So overall it was somewhat disappointing but to be expected.

Sailor Moon is NOT a kids brand it's a brand aimed at 20 - 30 something women with disposable income and they are prepared to pay a bit more because it's convenient and it's Sailor Moon.

Pretty sure a good 20 - 30 yen of that pudding was pure profit to Toei.

Only a small example but maybe it will show how Sailor Moon is marketed in Japan

woooo I’m extremely impressed with Dead Scream. The effets are breath taking. And I’m normally not a big fan of retraced attacks.
Doesn’t she use also “Chronos Typhon” in the movie ? Just asking because it was basically already more or less based on “Dead Scream” (but really not in a good way)

Sailor Moon is popular no doubt, but if it were as heavy of a seller as we'd like it to be, theyd be treating it way better then they have instead of half assing the entire reboot. Especially over 7-8 years.
‘Total conspiracy’ I honestly think toei was too afraid to give us an amazing adaptation because it could effect the sales of pretty cure.

Once I said the same thing without much thinking. It is completely impossible. I mean, we have different target aduience, different goals and different merch involved.

haha no for sure. It’s just this frustrating aspect to sailor moon. A new studio would really try something new. (Mappa)
I wonder what the Tokyo new mew reboot will look like.

Toei is so smart in holding on to these legacy titles using them to sell products.
I do wonder what it would take for Naoko to give the adaptation rights to another studio?

Tokyo Mew Mew might be great but I don't like the way it looks like... The artstyle of the old show as well as the manga is not my cup of tea.

An expired contract with Toei, but that's unlikely...since the latter probably has all types of hoops to jump through for rights of usage.

There could be a lot of factors as to why she hasn't.

No one wants it at the moment.
Her price tag might be too high for another company.
Contract clauses.
She doesn't allow very much creative control and most directors and/or companies would like to have control and tweak the story to their vision for what they think will be the most profitable..

Probably many more possible reasons too as to why she hasn't yet.

I like the last one though.

Naoko probably wants Sailor Moon told the way she wants it told and anything different is subject to her approval and if you don't like it, you don't get it. Mwahahhhhaahah!::tuxspeedmask:

On to Tokyo Mew Mew. I used to watch that show a long time ago. It's very cute. It was like Sailor Moon meets Captain Planet (or something like that.):creeper:

Had no idea they were rebooting it.

Plus the other reason is that Sailor Moon was made because TOEI asked Naoko to do it, but she has sole rights over Sailor V.

I have heard Naoko has full rights over it, at least since early 2000s
Yeah, she has all the distribution rights, she tried to sever it from the other corporate owners in the 2000s like TOEI and Kodansha but failed, similar to what Akamatsu did in Negima.

we have to wait to see all the transformations in the complete sequence, but so far I am noticing some stuff:
· Uranus and Neptune share similar transformations, with make-up sequence, and planetary symbol transformation into tiaras. Their speech pose is with their planets in the background but no symbol.
· Pluto's transformation is like in the 90s but doesn't share some bits with Neptune and Uranus, not including the planetary symbol to tiara transformation. Her speech pose includes her planetary symbol (maybe that's why it's missing from her forehead LOL)
· Saturn's transformation doesn't seem to include any kind of "energy" warping around her body to transform her, and her fuku appears just out of the shine in her forehead in the close-up panel. No make-up scene and no symbol to tiara transformation (even if we saw it in her Crystal 3 appearance). Her speech pose includes the symbol.

I kinda understand that they want to give Saturn a different transformation from the other Outers, like saying "she's different", but I would like Pluto's to match Uranus and Neptune, and SAturn's to be more elaborated than it looks in that trailer.

Still, that's just what I get from the few scenes we got so far, when we see them fully I may be proven wrong lol.

Well, we don’t know if Toei made more mistakes then just the one with the wrong background. I still believe the Bluray version will get some touch-ups and extras.
YEp, we'll have to wait, first to see the actual movie, and then for the final release. I hope they fix anything they want to fix before (and if) it comes to Netflix.
