That's understandable. Personally I think they gave Tiger's Eye too much screen time compared to Hawk's Eye. Since the latter targeted more mature women, it would have been nice to see more older women as original characters.
Or see an episode where Hawk's Eye goes after Haruna Sakurada! I always liked Haruna as a character, especially for comic relief, and that being done SuperS style would've had me grinning. And besides, always had a thing for her. Maybe because when I started watching the series, she was one of the few characters age-appropriate for me.

I . I think the first season actually has a lot more filler-in episodes
I guess some episodes are debatable if they’re filler or not but by my count 14 of Classic’s 46 episodes are important to the plot i.e 70 percent filler

SuperS about 12 of the 39 episodes are important.

So really about the same.

than SuperS and most of the 90s anime is completely different from the manga, so I don't it's fair to hold SuperS to a higher stander of manga accuracy when fans don't do it for the rest of the anime.
I never got when people act like SuperS is the only loose adaptation. Classic is the only one that even kind of sort of follows the manga. SuperS strays no more than S or Stars tbh

The Doom Tree and Nehelenia arcs are some of the best arcs of the 90s anime and they aren't even in the manga at all. I enjoy Sailor Moon for it's characters and stories and not because one season is darker than the other and I personally enjoy the 90s anime for a lot of the comedy that I feel like the manga lacks. I would also argue SuperS is darker than fans give it credit for. The Amazon Trio basically try to murder any of their victims that don't have the Dream mirror in them. Nehelenia turned all her servants into horrifying monsters so she could have eternal youth. The MOTDs in SuperS are pretty twisted and creepy in general and the scene where you find out Zirconia is Nehelenia's reflection is very creepy.
The rape metaphor noted by the In defense of SuperS essay is apt. The Amazon trio pick their victims. lure them into a false sense of security and then take advantage of them. Basically date rape

For me, SuperS is actually my second favorite Sailor Moon(1 is S) because it has a vibrant color compared to other seasons, and Chibiusa doesn't seems to be annoying anymore (she looks even more matured, compared to R). And also it has more social problems and quite reasonable morals for each episodes.
And I guess SuperS is a main point for Chibiusa, because the previous Sailor Moon season (S) was quite dark and creepy for children, so maybe they wanted to bring back the previous Sailor Moon styled story.

The Quartet definitely has more personality and development than some of the later members of the Witches 5 like Tellu and Viluy.

Tellu, Viluy, and the Twins were basically glorified monsters of the day. That's not really a fair comparison.

Even with more episodes to be developed the Amazon Quarter were all basically interchangeable to me. I guess Palla Palla stood out as the babyish one but otherwise I couldn't tell which was which and who was suppose to have what personality.

One of my favorite SuperS episodes is when JunJun gets frustrated seeing Chibiusa's friend failing at the box vaulting so she tries to use her magic to help him jump over it even though he was supposed to be her target and I think that was the first signs she wasn't all that bad but she was still in denial about it. Even though it was a pretty simple plot for the episode, I think it makes JunJun stand out more over other villains that only go through a reform and show any kindness after their shown what kindness is by Sailor Moon. Of course Sailor Moon is ultimately the one who shows her the way, but I thought it made her more complex because even when she was a villain, JunJun still had different sides to her.

I'm surprised the Amazoness Quartet felt interchangeable to some. I thought they all had fairly distinct personalities with the exception of VesVes.

I love that episode too. I also love episode 160, where the Quartet work alongside the Sailor Soldiers in their human disguises. I thought the episode did a great job of showing how they could be friends under certain circumstances, as well as showing where their worldviews clashed. It also made the eventual reveal more effective, though I do wish they had had a few episodes like that beforehand.
