There are two types of tsunderes:
Type A: the most common type where the person is rude to everyone especially their love interest if they have one. They have a soft and sweet side of them deep down (dere-dere) and tend to try to hide this part of them.
Type B: They are dere- dere and genuinely nice to people in general, but someone or something, usuallly their love interest, triggers them to become “tsun- tsun” towards them.
Also, are there any type of deres present in any of the adaptations?

'90s Anime!Rei definitely seems this way towards Usagi and possibly Yuuichirou (she rides a line between 'tsundere romantic interest' and 'genuine contempt' towards Yuuichirou... although by the very conceptual nature of tsundere relationships that's already a narrow distinction), but not towards anyone else. She's pretty forward towards Mamoru, or when trying to hit on the Starlights. I guess she only gets Tsundere when the relationship is more intense, since her chemistry with Mamoru alone always seemed kind of weak. But yeah, .

I'd say Anime!Rei is type B, given how much friendlier she is to Mamoru, but she can also be kind of rude to random people a lot (just as Ami's leg) so... hard to say.

But not Manga!Rei. I think she's just genuinely not romantically interested in any men anymore, and more generally hesitant/quiet about any feelings towards girls.

I think anime Mamoru might be? His snipes toward Usagi kind of feel this way in the early days, where it reminds me of a young boy who hasn't quite wrapped his head around expressing feelings properly so he makes fun of the girl he likes. Even once they're in a relationship, he's occasionally prone to exasperation and disparaging jokes despite genuinely loving her quite a bit. The biggest problem with this is, he doesn't really go around denying romantic feelings except when he's got some dumb reason like vague apocalyptic visions from the future; in the early days when he teases Usagi, he doesn't seem to have stopped to think very seriously about the romance, and once they're a couple, he plays down the teasing and never hesitates to tell her his true feelings without some silly dramatic reason or a dose of brainwashing. So I'm not sure if he counts. As for Manga Mamoru, I guess they have a small glimmmer of the teasing there, but there's al ot less of it and he's much quicker to jump into the whole smell-her-handkerchief side of things (which is more stalkerly, maybe even yandere-esque) so I'd say no about that version.

If Mamoru were, I'd say Type B maybe?

'90s Anime Usagi in season 1 seems a bit this way towards Mamoru, and towards Rei for the whole series. She and Rei could go in circles for quite a while I think :keke: Also, Usagi'd definitely be Type B. You could also read her this way towards Seiya, and I think had she met Seiya before the rset of the show's events she might've genuinely felt that way (similar to Mamoru), but, in Sailor Stars I wouldn't call her tsundere towards Seiya, just genuinely disinterested / only sees him as a friend. She's engaged, and wishes he'd take that seriously.

As for the rest of the poll options...

I don't think Seiya is at all. Anime Seiya's pretty forward about his feelings towards Usagi, even pushy. He's teasing, sure, but he knows what he wants and is quite blunt about it.

Nephrite??? I don't follow. I'm curious what Cierra Moon found tsundere about Nephrite. He never seemed in denial about romance to me (much less the insulting/teasing side of it), insomuch as he completely failed to comperehend the premise of love until a certain point, at which time he quickly became much more self sacrificing in turn.

Naru, on the other hand, is super tsundere towards Umino, I'd say! (Although at first she's genuinely not sure if she's interested, after the Tuxedo Umino Mask thing I'd say she steps it up to tsundere romance for the rest of the anime... right down to the final scene with the extra milkshake.) I legitimately wonder if she was a major inspiration for Naru Narusegawa in Love Hina (since Ken Akamatsu has mentioned Sailor Moon was a big part of him getting into anime. Interestingly enough, Kiyohiko Azuma of Azumanga Daioh and Yotsuba fame is a huge fan too, and made a fan-manga called A-Zone). As for whether Naru'd be Type A or Type B... hmm. I feel like she falls somewhere in-between. She was always pretty rude to Umino and Usagi, who are her two closest friends, but she seems pretty nice to everyone else, and I don't think she has romantic feelings towards Usagi so that's not straightforwardly type B.

Unfortunately, I haven't seen PGSM. As for the Anime or Manga versions of Minako, I think the only person she might be this way towards is Artemis... but I'm not sure if tsundere is quite the right way to define that.

Kunzite?? Nah. He's pretty straightforwardly romantic towards Zoisite, unless he's too distracted worrying about the rainbow crystals and comes off aloof from time to time. I'm not seeing it, and this one also seems like a puzzling suggestion to me. Unless you mean towards Mamoru... buuuut I don't really see that ship XD Nevermind, you said PGSM Kunzite so I don't know enough about him.

En? Towards Ali, yes. Towards Mamoru, no. En would be a Type B.

Rei from the original anime definitely would count as one, and I'd say it would be a B type.

I voted Saphir in that hentai Saphir X Demande fan manga. :cthulhu:

I think it was either here back when there was an adult section or sailormoon.biz. I remember Rika translating one panel from it where Saphir was angrily questioning why :usagi: hasn't hammered Demande yet.

Sad thing some of these had really great artwork but had very poor content like Sailor Star Fighter impregnating :haruka:.

In PGSM, Mina due her impending death, though it's unclear how much was on purpose and how much genuine.

Oh God, I can't imagine that, happening; that's the problem with a lot of those doujins; they have great, beautiful artistic talent but that talent is wasted on stuff like that (I also wonder how those legally managed to get sold in the US, if they even got sold)...I feel bad for you having to look at that stuff (and Shiho Niiyama would be rolling in her grave).

Oh it wasn't so bad. Distasteful as they are they initially gave me the :siren::wtf::siren: look but made me chuckle afterwards. Even watching the cringe compilation of the Star Ballz Trilogy in youtube kinda immunizes you to that sort of thing.

:chibiusa:'s 7th Birthday and Artemis Lover would be the 2 fanfics that should never be drawn at all.

I never saw any of those fanfictions fortunately, I heard they tried to do a cleaner version of that one but that version wasn't clean enough and still had implications.

Dealers at Cons sold whole bunch of artistic doujinshi. All you need to purchase them was ID such as driver license or passport.
I should know, I have a whole bunch of doujinshi that I bought from Otakon 2009 and eBay.

Fiancé never forgive me for buying Devil May Cry yaoi on his eBay account.

The Tsunderes of Sailor Moon, in my opinion are:

1. Rei in most versions (only difference is who’s she’s directing her tsunness towards): In the 90’s anime she’s a classic tsundere type A towards Usagi and Yuichiro, and is like this towards Minako in the Manga and PGSM

2. Mamoru and Usagi towards each other during 90’s anime Classic and PGSM, they are both type B in Classic but Mamoru in PGSM seems more like a Type A. Usagi is also a bit of a Type B towards Rei in the 90’s anime.

3. Not a romantic example but Chibi-Usa is pretty tsundere towards Usagi in all versions, a classic Type B.

4. 90’s anime and Musical Saphir comes off as a pretty Tsundere type B towards Demande.

5. Likewise 90’s anime/Musical Demande is a mixture of both Type A and B with Saphir. (Reason why I ship them & 90’s anime Reisagi so much, I adore mutual Tsundere ships, thanks Rumiko Takahashi!)

6. 90’s anime Crow is a stereotypical Type A towards Siren, obvious since they’re meant to be villain expies of Rei & Usagi and their dynamic.

Why are Minako, Seiya, Kunzite, En and Nephrite listed as options? They’re not Tsundere in any of the versions in the slightest. PGSM Minako is a kuudere not a tsundere and Kunzite in PGSM isn’t particularly tsun towards anyone, he’s just angry and bitter lol.

En too is really more of a yandere than a tsundere, at least towards Mamoru. I guess she can be a bit tsun towards Ail when she suspects him cheating on her, but they’re already in a relationship so I’m not sure that qualifies? It’s natural to get upset at your significant other if you suspect they’re two-timing you, Tsun is more like when you act constantly annoyed/angry at someone you care about but don’t let your true feelings about them be known.

I voted Saphir in that hentai Saphir X Demande fan manga. :cthulhu:
Link to this please? Do you remember the title at least? :mischief:

Most likely dead with sailormoon.biz and the :cthulhu: section here vaporized. So you'll have to use google.
Do you at least remember the name or artist so I can Google it?
Even with great artwork these fan fics and doujins were bad.
How were they bad?

Everyone here voting for Usagi must be joking.
Eh, she isn’t exactly a Classic Tsundere no, but she does have her moments towards Rei in the 90’s anime, Mamoru during Classic and PGSM, and even Chibi-Usa at times.
