They clearly have no interest in this franchise anymore, and it honestly pains me such beloved franchise is in hands of these cheapskates, when i think about what great things Madhouse would do with Sailor Moon, im really sad

Ugh man I could totally picture how badass that would be if they pulled a Hunter x Hunter for a Sailor Moon remake that would be boss.

The only thing I disagree with is the hundreds of millions of dollars.
By being inactive and restrictive with the franchise, Naoko Takeuchi/PNP and TOEI have devalued the franchise significantly.
I'd estimate the franchise could be bought for $50 million or less. As Tuxedo Unmasked wrote, TOEI really only made about $5 million per year recently, and that was in an active year. An average is more like $3 million a year. This means the franchise is losing in terms of sales. A franchise's sales strongly indicate what it is worth.
Yes, it's more money than any of us have, but this franchise could easily be purchased on the cheap, because whoever buys it would have to put in a ton of work and money to make it profitable.
If Naoko Takuechi and TOEI were to hold out for $100 million, they wouldn't get it at this rate. Even with the Olympics and the movies, Sailor Moon won't get that much of a boost.

Elon Musk's Tesla supposedly not only didn't make any money, but reported net loss of over $700 millions for 2018. If you use reported profits as the main criterion for brand/franchise worth, then what your fair price for "Tesla" brand would be?
Reported profits is not the same thing as real money ending up in the pockets of company managers. Reported profits is what remains after all CEOs, board of directors, and who not, get their checks, their bonus payments, their royalties, their sportcars and mansions, and whatever else is written in their contracts as obligatory payments. This way some hypothetical company can get $100 millions per year in real profits, spend $95 millions on "operational costs" in the form of Porsche sportcars and mansions "full of golden things" for their top managers and retired manga authors, and report the remaining $5 millions as income.
