The only thing I disagree with is the hundreds of millions of dollars.
By being inactive and restrictive with the franchise, Naoko Takeuchi/PNP and TOEI have devalued the franchise significantly.
I'd estimate the franchise could be bought for $50 million or less. As
Tuxedo Unmasked wrote, TOEI really only made about $5 million per year recently, and that was in an active year. An average is more like $3 million a year. This means the franchise is losing in terms of sales. A franchise's sales strongly indicate what it is worth.
Yes, it's more money than any of us have, but this franchise could easily be purchased on the cheap, because whoever buys it would have to put in a ton of work and money to make it profitable.
If Naoko Takuechi and TOEI were to hold out for $100 million, they wouldn't get it at this rate. Even with the Olympics and the movies, Sailor Moon won't get that much of a boost.
