Nobody said that. Kazuko Tadano is the first animator to translate the manga art into animation and everything else - the designs done by Ikuko Itou and Katsumi Tamegai in 90s and even Yukie Sako and Akra Takahashi in Crysta were at least influenced on them, so I am sure nobody doubts she will deliver. But I am not convinced movie is the best format and with all these delays I have a feeling it will end up as the next tired, badly scheduled and troubled production in the franchise.
Nobody can say if these were done by Tadano or having anything in common with her idea. It is cute art and I quite like it, but it look like a Chibi variation of Yukie Sako's style. If the new design looks like this thiugh I will be happy with it, but I doubt they would reveal it in such a random way. It is soo pretty though.
They should have started the series with this style.
But... If there hadn't been Sakou for season 1 and season 2, we wouldn't have any "base" or "fundamental" for this design
Look at Mako's hair. The color is 95% alike Sako's.
In terms of Tuxedo Mask, he still remains his bishounen style but looks manlier the same time
I don’t know if these were drawn by Tadano herself (could be an in-house artist), but what I like most is how dynamic the art is. The poses are all great without making the characters look too noodle-y, stiff or awkward. Then again, Crystal always seems to have the best art for random collaborations than the actua anime itself. But this makes me so much more excited for S4.
My only critique is that the lines look really thick, but I’m assuming it was done this way since it’s for a game.
They are because it is for a game indeed. I also think they are slightly chibified, but based on something that is Crystal but not the current official style, so it makes me hope this is based on the new art design.
To me it also looks like a mix between Sakou and Tadano, and it makes totally sense, since it's "Sailor Moon Crystal". And Tadano's art style ist probably the most popular and associated with the Dark Kindom arc in the 90s anime.
I like it, it's well drawn and has right proportions, expressive faces/eyes and dynamic poses.
BUT...for my taste too chibi/childish. For this game partnership it's fine, but for the Dream Arc movies i want something more elegant and more "adult". I think Tadano's character design is actually my favourite, i even prefer it lately over Ikuko Itouh's amazing design. I wanna see an evolution of her 90s style in a more grown up version. Please no MOE style, I already found the characters in season 3 too young looking. 15 year old girls are young women and don't have to look like elementary school kids.
So I think this art style does not represent the character design for the upcoming movies. It's more of a safe choice that will please everybody. They might go the same way with the movies, but I bet it's gonna be a bit different. Please. lol.
