Now, we don’t know how the BGM will sound like in Eternal but I am going to go out on a limb and say it will be pretty similar to the first 3 seasons of Crystal.

With that in mind, are you a fan?

Personally I don’t think his work is terrible but it is very.. forgettable and samey. I believe it suits the ethereal side of the show (It was perfect for the flashback of Princess Serenity and Endymion in episode 1 of Crystal, for example) However I feel it really doesn’t go with the comedic scenes nor the sadder moments. The only track that really stood out to me as memorable was Sailor Mars’ theme, which suits her perfectly. He just doesn’t have the range that Takanori Arasawa possessed. What I would have preferred Crystal to do was mix some of the best songs from the 90s (Outers theme, Saturn’s theme, etc) with some of Takanashi’s work mixed in. I’m sure some people would complain it was aping off the 90s anime though, so...

Scenes like this just feel so much more alive to me with the original score.

Anyway, how do you feel?

I like Crystal—I prefer Crystal over the 90’s anime, but in my opinion the score of the 90’s anime is undeniably better.

Yes! Yes! Yes!!!
I'm different from a lot of fans. I love Uranus and Neptune's transformation theme in Crystal.

Well, I have changed my mind; I can’t really choose.

The score used in the Crystal battle scenes is good, some other pieces are very good, but I feel that each senshi should have had her own transformation theme. Only Mars’s transformation theme was used.

I’m on the opinion that he overuses the choir and could do with a bit more variety in his compositions. Like in Classic you had this campy, Charlie’s Angels 70’s vibe, while in S the music took a more sophisticated approach, while Stars had a more techno, synthy vibe with the Starlights. I love how they used real instruments for the production a lot of the time, too.

Crystal is more ‘epic’ but not very catchy, to my ears atleast.

They should’ve just used the 90s score or hired the same composers from the 90s to create new OST. The original music was very nostalgic. The new scores are sooooo forgettable. I don’t care for them and haven’t downloaded or listened to them outside of the anime.

The scores in SMC are forgetable because most of them were used just one or twice. And many people didn't mind rewatching SMC for the second time, they prefered to cut frames and nitpick. So it's no surprising that they forget the songs.
You couldn't remember anything if you don't try to remember it or review it.

He died back in 2005 so that would have been impossible.

Both Moon Pride and Eternal Eternity and certified bops! It’s a shame they never used them as remixed BGM in the show as they have great melodies. The opening for season 3 is just boring for me, though. It’s too mellow for an opening.

What strikes me as odd is that Toei always uses Moonlight Densetsu in trailers to hype up the nostalgia effect and yet they have never thus far used it as an insert song in Crystal. I wonder if they’ll use Watashitachi ni Naritakute as an insert song in the second movie or if it’ll be Chainon? Would be nice if they could use both in some capacity.

I agree with Aurora Peachy's opinion on it. It does feel like the opening should be the ending since it is mellow and have the first ending song be the opening.

Oh yes, definitely a fan. I prefer Crystal's soundtrack to the 90's. The 90's soundtrack does have some bangers but it sounds like mostly generic 90's anime music to me. I know Takanashi gets his fair share of flak for similar reasons, but I came into Crystal already being a fan of his Naruto and Fairy Tail scores so the Crystal OST sounded unique to me. Can't wait to hear what he has in store for the movies.
