Girls are supposed to feel attracted to alpha males. Usagi doesn’t feel attracted to Demande and he kisses her without her consent, and that is a big NO.
He didn't have a sport car. And his no-name spaceship was mortgaged. Typical beta loser without a single chance of getting laid. :yoshi:

Seriously WHAT is it? Glad the anime pretty much removed it.

But I still want to know what did it reflect? Why would she want to have her dad as the lover?
As Guardian Princess Nadia saic, it's gross and uncomfortable to witness but writing-wise it fits thematically. Chibi-Usa in the manga feels inadequate in general due to her insecurites over not being able to grow up and the rumors that she might not be the Queen's real daughter. She feels like she'll never measure up to her mom, so what better way to stick it to her than to take her mom's lover? Who also happens to be the 1 person besides Pluto who ever even tried to understand Chibi-Usa and befriend her. Keep in mind too that as much as it's disgusting either way, in Chibi-Usa's mind she probably makes a clear distinction between Mamoru and her actual father, King Endymion. Logically she understands they're the same person but emotionally it can be hard to get there, note that she only ever directs her crush at Mamoru, never King Endymion himself. So I think it's safe to say it's not even so much that Chibs has an Electra Complex as it is that she really does feel like Mamoru is his own separate person from her father. To her her father is her father and Mamo-chan is Mamo-chan, a nice older guy who treats her so kindly who she's developed a bit of a crush on. Keep in mind too that Wiseman could've easily perverted her feelings towards him as well and turned what was once an innocent, childhood crush into a warped, twisted thing.

That being said, I always felt a better version of this plot-point would've been Black Lady trying to possess Pluto instead, since remember what triggered her heel-face turn to begin with was the notion that she wasn't the most important person in Pluto's life after seeing her smile and blush at the King. Would've still been gross due to the pedophilia aspect but at least it'd get rid of the incest aspect and would just make more sense in general.

The electra complex is not as common as the Oedipus complex, but it is said to be relatively common. And it's also a little less disturbing than being laid by a horse.
That was one thing I didn't understand. Granted, I haven't seen SuperS in a long time, but didn't Pegasus keep his true form hidden/away from Chibi for ages in the anime? Or am I mistaken? Having her fall for a Pegasus versus Helios is weird.

I work with children as a kindergarten teacher. It's totally normal for little children to have a crush on one of their parents and the wish to marry them. When Chibiusa got transformed into Black Lady she still was a kid but in an adult body. Adding the dark power of Death Phantom we got a twisted love of a girl towards her father.

Yeah that was never a good look. Honestly that whole subplot with Serena being jealous in general was not a good storyline for that season. Esp when we flash forward to SuperS and she has a crush on Haruka.
Yeah, it's actually worse than the Mamoru breaking up with Usagi sub plot. Which...when you think about it...if we're to choose which sub plot we're forced to go with, which one of the evils would we have been better off handling? Usagi's unnecessary jealousy to her daughter that makes her unsympathetic or Mamoru breaking up with Usagi because of a future vision he can't tell anyone?

There's one episode where one victim has a horse-like face and the senshi assumed this is Chibi Usa's crush. She still doesn't admit about Helios to them till like the last episodes.

It was weird.

The apparent age of chibiusa is in is the age where kids idolize their parents a lot, like boys their mom and girls their dad. wiseman twisted her affection and dreams in a rather dark way which isnt surprising considering he is evil personified

Does anyone know what Naoko herself has said about why she wrote it like that?
Japan just has a weird fetish/normalization of incest in general, especially of the “Daddy/Daughter” variety. Why do you think wife-husbandry manga like Usagi Drop are even a thing in the first place? Or having Sesshomaru end up with the child he raised in Inuyasha’s sequel Yashahime?

Even Fruits Basket, a popular Shojo series aimed at only a slightly older demographic than the Sailor Moon manga recycles this same type of plot by having the antagonist’s mother and the true villain of the series put the entire story into play by being jealous of her daughter and thinking her husband’s own biological daughter is somehow a threat to his romantic affections. Her daughter’s love interest who notices this even uses that same gross “as a woman” line that Usagi uses for Chibi-Usa in response to her mother’s jealousy.
