Did Viz Mislead Us About The Necessity of Its Dub Name Choices?

Okay, well, I'm sick of people trashing the original dub in such over-the-top, out-of-touch ways, so I guess I'll just go and wipe all traces of the original, uncut Japanese version of the anime from existence because that would be a mature, reasonable reaction to a portion of the fandom having different taste than I have.

People talking about a hacked up job of an original anime will always bother me. Especially when it was done very poorly and has been discontinued for over two decades and yet people seem to thing it's "god's gift to anime" when it's probably the furthest thing. Sure it introduced me to the characters but it feels like a gross ex boyfriend who you had feelings for but have moved on and wonder what you ever thought was attractive.
Then why are still doing here if it bothers you that much?

Okay, as much as I love the old dub, neither this thread nor this board is only for those who like the old dub. There are plenty of fans who actually do agree with that position that the old dub should be forgotten. I'd rather these fans have their say, and I disagree with it, than try to chase them away. After all, in my eyes, those fans have won. Sailor Moon has a new dub, just like they wanted. If they want to gloat, please let them gloat.

Maybe, in fact, that is why Viz felt it had to use the original verson's names. In many circles "nostalgia fans" are mocked mercilessly. Can you imagine what would have happened if Viz had announced a new, more faithful dub, but with the old names? The very ones who complain about old fans not letting go would be complaining themselves and launching boycotts.

It was my opinion that Viz could have been clearer that this was their market-driven choice and they were deliberately unclear about it. However, after reading the posts in this thread, it was me who was under a mistaken impression.
