What I have experienced, I think Ami is very popular among male fans because she is the perfect smart girl type. Male fans also likes Rei more than female fans. Many ppl like Minako as well.

Haruka and Michiru are more popular among female fans, I am not sure about Usagi.

Rei is definitely my favorite. I love her attitude but she probably isn't liked by too many girls because of her sometimes "mean-spirited" behavior which some might equate to being a b**ch.

Its really hard for me to pick a favorite but I totally think Haruka is where she belongs because she is hot and awesome. Very popular with both genders regardless of orientation. She and Michiru are also LGBTQ icons.

Usagi is loveable and all in a way but is more iconic in her Sailor Suited form but I'm sure she's more popular with girls in her civilian form too.

Haruka and Rei have always been my top favorites with Minako next and Makoto and Ami hovering very close to her.

I love Mars but my friend says I'm sorta introverted like Mercury (which is true until you get to know me) but my zodiac is Cancer and I'm selfless like Usagi is.

I guess male fans like Rei more because they don't care too much about "Mamoru problem" and such friendship are very common upon boys. I never feel anything bad about it, just found they are very close friends.

To me Usagi is lovely because beside the Stars Finale where she went too far, she always tried to help and trust ppl, without her the Inner Four certainly would not have been such good friends. I feel so sweet that she encouraged that pianist to find love regardless of age. That's more important than her Sailor Moon alter ego.

My favorite senshi are Michiru-Makoto-Usagi and Hotaru.

Makoto just looks so cool with her tall and strong appearance at the same time has cute moments. Hotaru had such a sad life but always show such kindness and willing to sacrifice her life to save the world.

I guess it doesn't have much to do with gender.

I saw a poll that was done pretty recently, that rated their popularity, and had each split between their civilian and senshi forms.
Surprisingly, Uranus took #1, and Haruka took #3, with Moon sandwiched between them at #2. Thought that was kinda interesting.

As for me, Jupiter/Makoto has pretty much taken my #1 spot in the last couple years, after my rewatch and seeing her differently then when I was younger. Ami/Mercury is now #2, and Haruka/Uranus became #3 about the same time as Jupiter taking her new spot for me.

That poll was mostly done by female voters.

So funny long story about me with Sailor Moon characters (among favorites and other favorites)

Considering many years like years ago, I only attracted to Sailor Moon because I love the artstyle and stuffs like drawing characters, but not getting into manga or anime and stuffs, I only know Sailor Moon as Usagi and Tuxedo like that
I got caught with a picture with Sailor Moon and the 4 sailors, at first look, I get attracted to Mercury since is my favorite planet, but second was Jupiter because green is my favorite color
--------------
But after watching 90s anime for the first time (just 1 season)
I was really like their characters much more, Usagi is pretty much a crybaby, I was kinda right when I think Ami is the smartest character and easily a great sailor scout, Makoto is straight up best relatable girl to me
But I think there were some fans back in my school, they prefered Ami more because of how she is a very nerdy-girl but also very responsible in her school work while able to manage her sailor job. Meanwhile, Makoto is strong-willed girl type who has her life with her own living house, basically she is really independent but very careful girl.
But as for me the best ship so far was Usagi and Mamoru
-------------
That was before I thought I was later grown up as a pre-college kid

I got on the internet fact, there was nobody told me about the fact that there was a couple - I think you guys know where this is going (one of them has the same VA of Kurama in Yu Yu Hakusho who is also my favorite character), it was confirmed those two were the lesbian couple - Uranus and Neptune. So I found this is interesting, so I tried to read the manga and S for the first time, and oh my god I am really freakin in love with those two.
I mean I'm a girl so don't ask why several girls like Haruka - who is a very atracttive girl with boy-ish look (basically she is like butchy reversed-version of Kurama except the voice). And then you have Michiru, who is also another best girl in the S series (that almost makes me realized that they have dethroned my entire favorite Sailor Moon character's list XD), so yeah, I think growing up, I know that up to now, among Sailor moon female fans, I got it why they had to pick those two because of their relationship throughout entire series (And I really love them in the manga, while the 90s they are kinda acting bossy with other Sailors, probably is Toei's changes)

And then I realized how much I don't like Usagi's character in the 90s by turning her into a crybaby
------------------
Just to sump up
I think back in the day, is either Ami or Makoto. but until I grow up as much more mature, it's all Haruka and Michiru
Again, the hardest thing for me is picking favorite Sailor senshi

It might also vary depending of the country/culture you're living in? I've read/heard people say "I don't like :ami: because she is boring/nosy/has only one colour/girls with boys' haircuts are ugly…" etc., stuff like that. There even was an entire 'Sailor Mercury Sucks' Webpage. How mean!

@Slowpokeking Well, you gotta ask them, not me :mischief:

@Frenchfries&AChocolateMalt That's just another well-known Stereotype about gay men that tends to get inflated in the (Western) Media: They're shown as even more 'girlish' and sensible than most contemporary real women. If those start 'b****ing' around the G-guy in ~9/10 cases (Think of "Modern Family", for example) will give us the Trademark "Birdcage" Drama Queen.

.
I find this a bit of a stretch. In general women and gay men are way more likely to be more lenient toward a female character perceived as “bitchy” than straight men.

I'm weird. I'm a cisgendered female. I love Ami, Makoto, Chibi-Usa and Hotaru. I like Setsuna, I'm neutral about Usagi and Haruka. I have a slight aversion to Minako. I don't like Michiru (sorry, OP) and I can't stand Rei.

I guess I'm not like other girls.

Makoto:mako: is, and always has been my fave. Having said that, I have always been partial to Rei:rei: as well, and I've found in recent years a growing adoration of Setsuna:setsuna:.

I know that 90's anime Rei is more popular among male fans compared to her manga counterpart, probably because of the latter's man-hating ways.
