I don't wanna be mean, but the Viz Luna, while I a big step up in fidelity compared to the old voice, still sounds like a stock voice for a software or something... Very soulless and monotonous. I am against the granny voice, and I find it laughable knowing the whole human form thing, but she sounded like a mentor and had personality. The new Viz voice is like these women that make announcement at supermarkets or aeroports. I am sure the voice actress is great, but in many cases the direction is to blame. Even Linda Ballentain that for me is a terrible Usagi, sounds nothing like this and she said herself she was asked to try to make a Terry Hawks immitation. She still sounded great as NQS/ Princess Serenity.
I think it was ok, it did well on the mentor part but could improve on how Luna being goofy and funny.

Well, if that's the case it's likely indicative of what the dubbing industry direction is like now, because she's sounded the same in basically every role I've heard her in, uh, ever. Michelle Ruff sounds exactly the same as Luna in her roles in Witch Hunter Robin, Bleach, and Digimon, to name just a few from the early 2000s. I honestly think these days most anime dubs are in such a rush to put out content ASAP that they just ask their actors to speak in their normal voices and add a little emotion from time to time. Not hating on Ruff in particular - there are plenty of other dub voice actors who are guilty of the same things.

Also not a fan of Usagi's voice at all...

The DiC dub is amazing to watch if you don't take it seriously.

Zoisite: I'll get that crystal, even if I have to trade my life for it.
Beryl: Skip the melodrama. I decide your fate, remember Zoisite?
Zoisite: Of course, my Queen.

Granted, I'm don't remember what the original line was, but the delivery in the dub was hilarious.

It’s a story where a teenage school girl uses the power of make up to transform into a super heroine that’s costume coincidentally a ballerina version of her everyday school uniform. How seriously can you really take it even before DiC/Optimum reversioned it to appeal to kids who live and breathed the movie Clueless?

Seriously as an adaptation/dub. You know very well there are plenty of purists who take the original very seriously and are offended at the very thought of the DiC dub.

I'm ok with some changes, but delete so many scenes in the finale break the line to me.

Pretty much all 90's anime adaptations (and previous) suffer from that. Look at what was done to Macross with Robotech or Kyatto Ninden Teyandee with Samurai Pizza Cats. If you continue to judge older practices by modern standards you'll never enjoy anything released before 2005.

Eh plenty of 80s and 90s anime survived unscathed provided they went direct to video Ranma 1/2, Bubblegum Crisis, Tenchi Muyo!

But it’s pretty obvious when Toei/Bandai/Kodansha were shopping for an English license they specifically wanted it to be marketed as a kids cartoon (as it was in Japan) to sell toys and merchandise

Ive not watched the movie in probably a decade and forgot that they used the shows theme song for the opening of the movie. You'd think they would've at least remixed it a little.

"We need Scout power" seems like such a weird line nowadays lol, though even if the line were "we need Guardian power" it still would feel weird.

You'd think for a movie they would've given new transformations/attacks even if it were the ones we knew instead of just reusing the same ones from the show but its nice that they use various moves , Jupiter does 3 moves within 5mins! Though interesting that they kept the japanese transformation songs.

"do your thing Moon mama!' still love that line.

"Be careful my Masked Man" lol could they get any cornier. Im sure Serena/Darien liked to cosplay in their relationship.

The Dic dub introduced Sailor Moon to me and even then I liked it so I can't really hold it's changes too much against it. I do prefer the more accurate dub but for 8-year-old me Dic was very enjoyable. It wasn't until way after that I discovered the "truth" about Zoisite.

Terri Hawkes will always be the voice of Sailor Moon to me. And the "Today on Sailor Moon..." intro for the Day of Destiny episode will never not freak me out.
