Even after discovering the sub, I still liked to watch it on occasion for nostalgia or comparison purposes. Nowadays though, it's been so long since I've watched it and it's barely available anymore (and I don't have any of my old dub VHS tapes) If I came across it, I would still probably give it a watch, even though I vastly prefer the original.

Even though many of us American fans were introduced to the DiC version...

I prefer the Subbed\Dubbed by Viz.

When I found out how censored the anime was, I was like I wanted the whole story type of angry (I also have some OCD tendencies that make it hard for people to shop for me)

No, in spite of any factors of irony, I don't watch the DiC version. Never saw the Optimum version.

If you’ve seen the DiC version you have seen the Optimum version.

Optimum did all the dubbing for DiC,Cloverway, and Pioneer in the 90s dub. DiC merely oversaw the project for the first two seasons but pretty much left Optimum to do the work.

I am nit a native speaker so my opinion is flawed, but I loved Tracey Moore way more than the rest of the English voices, including the Viz one. Similar to Katie Higgins. These two were perfect as Usagi and Rei respectively. Other than that, I believe no one who hasn't grown up with it and has emotional attachment wound fibd it good by today standards. I sti think it should be available for those who appreciate it as it is part of many people's childhoods. My soft spot is the German dub of the 90s show, especially the first Usagi voice. Of course these old dubs are flawed and they are product of their time. It is nice English speakers have a more faithful option, but it shouldnt completely erase the old dub. For me, personally original Japanese with subtitles is still the best and while the Viz dub is competent, some roles are jarring, but I think the priblem is the direction rather than the actors themselves. All of them sound much better in Crystal and the scripts are way better than the ones for the 90s show dub. They should make the old dub vailable. At least ket peoe share it on youtube for free, if you cannot release it and the ownership is so unclear. I peraonally watch the first two season of it from time to time, but the Cloverway dub of S and SuperS is really not my cup of tea and I see no charm in it.

Other than the butchering of plot, many voices were fine.

Some of it sucks, like Beryl's voice was too chessy/evil witchy.

She’s suppose to be an evil witch...so she sounds like an evil witch. What a concept.

I find Anne’s alpha bitch valley girl voice way worse tbh. Why does this alien sound like she grew up in California even before assimilating with the locals?

But she is not a chessy villain. She should sound seriously menacing, beautiful but also ruthless.

Cindy's voice was fine, I also like the Chinese VA.

The Dic dub has its following—if it has not achieved the status of “cult” following by now.
Lol the show was a number one hit on Cartoon Network before Toonami started showing DBZ and knocked it down to 2.

It’s not a cult following the DiC dub was a hugely successful kids show in the late 90s that introduced a lot of millennials to anime

True, but it was mostly Sailor Moon's own awesomeness plus some good VA, the huge amount of butchering was really bad, especially they even cut off so much touching content of the finale.

Sure censorship is hard to avoid, but I couldn't believe that such a super epic finale was butchered into a goody goody fight, all the touching scenes were gone. Even Usagi's teardropping monologue was cut after the fight.

I feel so lucky that I didn't grow up with this version, otherwise I might not love Sailor Moon this much.

The touching scenes are less touching when you realize most of them don’t matter. The girls die that’s so....oh wait they’re brought back in the next episode and get their memories back two episodes later.

They also keep the touching scene between Serena and Darien intact. But that felt earned because he nearly died and then was brainwashed and looked like he was dying again

Did you even watch the real complete series? I can't believe ANYONE would say it doesn't matter if they do.

Kate Higgins is the voice of Ami. You might be thinking of Katie Griffin. I agree, the original North American English dub should be available to fans who like it.

Read my entire post for context
You obviously didn't watch the series, otherwise there is no way you would say those didn't matter much. Yeah they got revived later but all the drama and epicness has been brought to a super top level. Even the memory back episode flashback would not be so touching without those sacrifices.

The DIC cutoff also made these pointless, they lost memory because of Usagi's wish and she didn't want them to be such danger anymore. If that doesn't matter why did they cut it off? Obviously they thought those were too cruel, meh.

DIC was famous all for one reason, Sailor Moon content and some fine voice works, nothing else.
