I know Moonies is like the unofficial term for Sailor Moon fans but for some reason, I've always felt uncomfortable using that label to describe myself, even though I am a big Sailor Moon fan. For some reason, it always makes me think of Rev Moon's followers who I think are also Moonies and I have nothing against his followers, but I just don't want to confuse people by calling myself something that sounds like their group. And it just doesn't sound quite right like the way Trekkie just sounds right. I wish we had a better name for Sailor Moon fans but what are your thoughts on it? How did the Moonie name get started anyway?

I don't like the term "Moonies" just because it's kind of vague. For example on my instagram I usually have something like "Sailor Moon fan/lover" or something to get to people with the same interests as me, because "Moonies" just sounds like it could be about anything. Could just mean I like studying the lunar cycle! The only other thing I have ever called myself on social media to say I like Sailor Moon is a Sailor Senshi. Not sure how Moonies came about, but yeah I never use it personally.

I've gotten used to it over the years (since there isn't really any other nicknames anyways...), but it wasn't something I was initially fond of. I never heard about the Unification Church until now so that's new, but something about the term always seemed a little bit... lacking to me, I suppose?

Now I'm okay with it, and I'm okay if I am called a "Moonie" though it's not exactly something I would think of calling myself, if that makes sense? I'm a big fan but it's not a term I really identified with, I guess.

I've never liked the term "moonies" because I remember once seeing it used as a pejorative and so it's always felt insulting to me.

Maybe "Moonists" would sound more respectable, then. :P

And what will happen after you see once somebody using "Sailor Moon fan" as a pejorative? Following that logic, these words will automatically become insulting and we won't be able to use them any longer.

I find it funny when terms like this get coined. Like saying, "I'm a Sailor Moon fan" is really that difficult? I consider myself a Lady Gaga fan, but never call myself a "Little Monster". I just think those kind of names are dumb.
