I know, and I'm sorry. This really is a silly question but every time I see Sailor Moon DVDs being promoted as having extra features when the only feature in question is a "Textless Opening & Closing" it gets on my goat. At least the art on the box and DVDs is sweet. I'm eyeing off a half price Crystal "Limited Edition" (paying full price for Crystal is just too much encouragement for them) in which you get lots of extra bling but the only content-related feature is also "Textless Opening & Closing". I'm obviously underestimating the importance of textless introduction and closing sequences to the Sailor Moon fan base.

It irks me when it is like the Sailor Moon case. You don't even get them all and they are not even remastered. Otherwise, the extras areusually American thing, so I cannot blame Japan for having different standarts. Anime usually comes with nice packaging and booklets. I highly doubt anyone would make records of the making, considering the already tight scedule. And the director's commentary while nice, is usually turned into silly chat at some point anyway. I don't see what kind of extras could be put in? I usually find the extras that are not something like clean op and ending or some promo animation as something that just eats space and demands more compression, which results in worse quality, especially on dvd.
Crystal Japanese edition had director commentary with some voice actors included, but Viz decided not to sub the track. As far as I know they never had the second arc clean op included...

No, it irks me when they're not included. :p I believe your issue lies with the lack of bonus material on Blu-rays/DVDs, not the inclusion of textless OPs & EDs as extras. I love bonus features too so I understand where you're coming from. I still don't get why the Sailor Moon extras on the LDs were never transferred in subsequent home video releases.

What really irks me is that they never bothered to remaster the creditless OPs and EDs back in the day. Now all we have are a handful of LD-quality videos with several versions missing.
But yeah, they could have had an audio commentary for the movies or certain episodes with the staff and seiyuu or something.

Apparently Toei hates including extras on their releases because it requires a lot of clearance. Also, they're pretty lazy when it comes to Sailor Moon releases. The original laserdiscs didn't have any interesting extras after the first series.
