For what? I mean the most fierce Sailor Moon debate I've experienced were mostly Manga VS Anime. Or some fights against characters shipping.
I honestly can't remember. Those two hated each other. This was way back in 2010 or 2011. ^_^' Like I said #SoShallow XD

Believe me there are far more worse Crystal vs 90's debates if not equally bad. It's just too bad the Galactic Cauldron was flushed.

Though I did visit one of the :usagi: Facebook groups and there's this one girl who got banned for fighting with everyone cause they had a different opinion on Seiya X :usagi:.

I understand. I once received something similar when I tried to pair :mihiru: with a male.

As a girl I'm okay with guys liking Sailor Moon even though part of me still thinks that it's kinda weird for guys to like a girly show.
Why is it weird? I don't get it.

1. Guys like pretty girls.
2. Sailor Moon(especially the anime) has more similarities with boy show like fighting main plot/friendship rather than typical shojo anime.

It was such a hit because it was able to attract both audience.

It just seems weird seeing guys go out and buy girly stuff if they don't have a girlfriend or a sister. I understand your points and I do have guy friends that like Sailor Moon, I'm just expressing my opinion that's all.

“Sailor Moon” is an anime derived from a shōjo magazine for teenage girls in Japan, as are “Magic Knight Rayearth” and “Cardcaptor Sakura.” Do boys watch those shows? Yes, because the stories are universally appealing, but the intended target has always been girls.

Didn't watch the first one, Cardcaptor Sakura was a good example of "typical shojo story", it has fighting against threat but was overall, very weak and minor compare to the relationship it tried to develop. Unlike Sailor Moon they fight real world threat and could face real danger in the story. Compare to the love story, the friendship was also strong. Actually after Sailor Moon I found many shojo anime to be boring because its plot lacks of the intensity. SuperS also fails for similar reason.

I think the manga was mainly targeted at girls, but the anime has a slight different target audience, obviously it tried to attract more male fans so Toei has added a lot of elements that belongs to other anime.

I believe it's a big reason why Sailor Moon was able to become such a HUGE success and greatly expanded the market of shojo manga/anime.

That's because you came after all the really juicy fights, like the Usagi Kou drama.

Here's an example, once upon a time, there were people who liked the DiC dub above all versions of Sailor Moon and this board literally censored the word "scout" as in "Sailor Scout." Now, people don't even know about the version of Sailor Moon that aired on TV except it "censored" and "changed" things, not knowing the version they're watching is not what aired on North American.TV.

I’d say it’s similar to when Funimation went back and redubbed their first two seasons of DBZ “uncut” with their in-house cast to replace the edited version they did with Ocean Group (and as far as Funimation is concerned the old dub doesn’t exist they even went back and redubbed portions of season 3 to make the transition between their new redub of season 1 and 2 “smoother”

but even Funimation eventually re-released the old dub...kind of.

Yeah I know, I appreciate DIC's music and overall voice over, but the changes/cut of entire episodes were real meh, especially the finale of Classic.

Why do ppl think Sailor Moon is more appealing to gay? Aren't gay guys (in general view) not interested in pretty girls and there were only like 2-3 gay relationship? Kunzite/Zoisite and Fiore towards Mamoru, maybe Fisheye could count but that's all.

Not saying it's not for gay, I just don't see how is it MORE appealing to gay men than straight men.

A gay guy is much more likely to be drawn to a show where girls transform into magical skirt-wearing heroines using magic wands than your average straight guy. That's for sure. And that definitely shows in the active SM fanbase we have today, most of the guys are gay/bi.
But that doesn't mean straight men can't develop interest in the show.

Wut? I don't get it. Aren't those designed for straight male audience? Even Naoko made clear that she drew pretty girls' body to attract male fans. Why would ppl think gay guy want to see beautiful women more than straight guy?

A lot of straight guys avoid to talk about it also because they were attracted at those transformation, but they were afraid to be picked for that.
