On some nights, drawn by common memory, they would meet. Four guardians and their Princess. Five became six as a smaller princess joined them. Then four more guardians. On dark nights when the stars were scattered like thousands of broken shards on an ebony blanket. In a circle they would gather and, in a long dead tongue, sing hymns to Gods long forgotten.

Rei, a priestess then as she was now, would lead them in the half-recollected chanting to the Gods that had shaped their star seeds in the Long Ago Time, who at the Dawn of All Things had made them Guardians.
