Another thing though, "I'm watching a new episode of Sailor Moon" implies Crystal, which is a show aimed at adults rather than teenagers (or children in the case of DiC/Cloverway.)
Actually Sailor Moon Classic was always aimed at children, even in Japan.
Really? With all the obvious PG-13 content? It's not exactly the innuendo you'd find in Rugrats or Animaniacs.
Japan has more lax censorship standards then America. You can get away with a lot more in Japan then in American children's shows.

Brazil and other Latin American countries got away with showing Saint Seiya uncensored and making the show popular among children. I wonder why the U.S. and Canada have so many restrictions.

I feel like most Americans don't really care so much but I think the restrictions are there because of lawsuit obsessed parent media watchdog groups that exist solely to ban any cartoons more mature than the TeleTubbies and the companies want to protect themselves from lawsuits. And while I think its getting a little better now than it used to, there's this double standard that a cartoon with more mature themes in it is somehow more scandalous but it's A-OK when parents take their kids to go see PG13 superhero movies.

Yet most of the Star Wars movies are PG and the first PG13 rated Star Wars didn't come out til 2005 yet they censor this?

I'm 17 and I love Sailor Moon. Do I count? Nobody else my age knows about it as far as I know though. I feel like I'm the only fan where I live a lot of the time haha.

I think sailor moon is making a comeback, plus the final season, which has been denied to western audiences, will be released thus adding more fandom. As for Attack on Titan, I consider it a bandwagon anime because half of that fandom just went with trend.

Sure you do! How did you learn about Sailor Moon if you don't mind me asking?
In a little bit of a weird way I suppose. I play a ton of League of Legends a game you've probably heard of, well you can buy skins for the characters using real money which makes them look different. One of the characters I play called Lux has a skin called Star Guardian Lux which I bought and always used.. It's based off of Sailor Moon so I decided one day to watch some of the anime it's based on and I fell in love with it and I've been a fan of Sailor Moon ever since. :D

I can't say. Most kids here in America doesn't seem to care or know about anime. Pokemon is one exception, but for the most part I see them more into anything that is considered topical such as Star Wars, Marvel, DC or even Disney.

Kids...really don't watch Sailor Moon.

As the topic creator noted in another thread (albeit for a different reason), Sailor Moon is an old anime and there aren't that many kids who are watching Sailor Moon these days.

Even among anime fans, Sailor Moon -- while seen as a classic -- doesn't get that much traction.

I would counter that Sailor Moon is very well known and recognizable -- she is very iconic and she won't be forgotten in our lifetimes. It's not as if Sailor Moon's brand is dead and unable to be revived. Plus, given the nature of the costumes, the franchise is always going to be a staple of cosplayers. However, the actual fanbase is definitely made primarily of adults 25+.

So I guess Sailor Moon is pretty much the disco  music of anime or animation in general. It is no longer relevant towards a younger generation nowadays, but it is still considered as a nostalgia favorite among older fans who knew about the show before. I was born in 1987 so I think that makes me one of the youngest. :smug:
