I definitely much more prefer 90s Usagi!

I love Usagi's silly personality and her character growth throughout the series, unfortunately Crystal doesn't flesh the characters' individualized personalities out so well in that sense. I loved her fighting with Rei as well LOL. Good ol' days! She felt more of a hero as well, a better friend, and also with something to prove. Not sure why but this has been on my mind for days and had wanted to post about it honestly.

I do too. PGSM Usagi is my favorite version but Crystal Usagi is flat and dull
Manga Usagi spends 90% of her time being wistful and it gets kind of dull. Crystal Usagi is Manga Usagi minus all signs of personality. 90s Usagi could be grating at times with how loud or annoying or stupid she was. PGSM and (recent) Myu Usagi are the best Usagis: sweet, quirky without being irritating, sentimental without being sappy - you can believe live action Usagi is the kind of lovable screwball who can befriend everyone, fail all her tests, save the world, and then pig out on ice cream.

Honestly 90s Usagi is overall my least favourite take on the character. She is a by the book protagonist from a show done in the 90s - loud, goofy, clumsy and ridiculous at times. Then at times she is way too perfect selfless hero, but once a story arc is over she immediately loses all of her progress when it comes to maturity. I do not hate her, but every other version I have experienced has a better version of her and a more realistic one.

Agree 90 s Usagi is not a bad character .I like the character. But yah she is a typical 90s protagonist .Not that was a bad thing .It did kinda annoying sometimes in the later episodes. It feels like she backtrack a.Ezcept for Stars.

I think my ideal Usagi would be a combo of both. I like the goofiness of her 90s counterpart, but also the more “take-charge” approach that she has in Crystal. I guess that actually kind of sums up Usagi in Crystal Season 3.

I chose the 90s though because I thought her jealousy over Chibiusa hanging out with Mamoru in Crystal Season 2 (and the manga) was stupid. She’s a kid.. of course Mamo wasn’t interested in her romantically! It was so weird to me that she was reacting that way.. Thank god they did away with all that by Season 3!

I like 90's anime Usagi. I like manga Usagi. I love live action PGSM Usagi. I like Crystal Usagi, even if she's boring. I feel that every version of the protagonist ought to be appreciated. The problem I have with 90's anime Usagi is they made her excessively immature for a cheap laugh in some episodes.

Yeah it's even worse in the Manga.

I am pretty sure she did say the same thing during the braking up scene, and overall this subplot blow it way out of proportion as well. Their bickering over him never stopped until Stars and Supers made it unbearable. The manga never put as much of a focus on their so called rivalry.
Yah the only time she was kinda jealous was in the second, or third chapter of the infinity arc.Which was more like why not me too? In the fourth arc she did not care, and told Chibiusa you're his daughter.

I prefer PGSM!Usagi as she's like the perfect synthesis of both incarnations.

The difference is 90s!Usagi never accused Mamoru of SEEING Chibiusa that way. Usagi and Chibiusa's bickering throughout the '90s anime was certainly annoying, but it never rose to the occasion of Usagi essentially thinking that Mamoru is attracted or has feelings for Chibiusa. Plus, the way Naoko draws Chibiusa and other elementary school girls is just generally a bit creepy. One of the worst aspects of the manga.

well i like better crystal usagi and manga usagi than 90s usagi, 90s usagi was so dumb and immature that was annoying, it didn't develop as a character or when she develop was turn down like some people say only in stars was more mature
in the 90s she say something similar to mamoru in the episode they broke up
manga and crystal usagi they mature about that even if you say oh she accuse mamoru , but 90s usagi still see chibi-usa as competition even in the movies like the super s movie she ask mamoru who he loves more xD
and if chibi usa and mamoru go out xD and if he give her more attention she get jealous
mh i remember a episode in super s, some mamorus friends didn't believe usagi was his girlfriend because of that competition
i know it didnt help too how chibi usa is portrayed in the 90s anime

Usagi is too nice (anime 90), she is not really formidable, since she always seeks to purify people instead of killing them.
While in the Crystal version, she is a killer and does not hesitate to eliminate those who stand in her way.
It would have taken a mix between the two personalities.

I love Usagi in PGSM! Miyuu Sawai played the role perfectly.

That's just another case of the Miss Dream translation being way off. In both the Kodansha and the Tokyopop translations, Usagi tells Mamoru that Chibiusa is in love with him. He says she's just a kid and Usagi says that doesn't matter ("Age has nothing to do with it! It doesn't matter how little she is! A woman's a woman!) which makes waaaay more sense. Like, it's still ridiculous she's jealous of a little girl, but at least she doesn't think Mamoru might have romantic or sexual feelings for her. BIG difference.

Elementary school? What was Naoko THINKING there? ::eeklez::wtf:

That manga side story sucked big time too, I'm sorry, but I wasn't a fan of it at all (most of the Short Stories are awful). It would have been nice to see Hotaru/Saturn get a lead role but it wasn't special and just disappointing, Hotaru, besides just getting possessed by an evil spirit again, just acts like a snobby, overprotective helicopter brat that doesn't want Chibi-Usa meeting anyone new or making any new friends (and ironically despite the gross fanservice and nosebleeds in it, there is a scene where Hotaru shows disgust towards some otaku in the shop).
