Is Sailor Moon just a concept in its universe?

Are the Senshi real people? Recently I’ve been really thinking about it, the Sailor Senshi aren’t really people, but more of a concept of a guardian of a planet.

Usagi Tsukino is Sailor Moon, but Sailor Moon isn’t strictly Usagi Tsukino. Sailor Moon is just the guardian of the Moon, the owner of the silver crystal.

Same as the other guardians, Sailor Guardians are just whoever possess the crystal of the respective planet they are protecting, right?

If so, are they just concepts of a being? Whenever I think of Sailor Mars I think of Rei Hino, but since she’s not immortal, the Mars Crystal will just pass to someone else or was someone else’s before being Rei's.

I’m most likely wrong about this theory since my manga knowledge is not refined, let me know if I’m wrong somewhere, please, this has really been bugging me.

Not really?

The Mars Crystal is the Sailor Crystal for Mars/Sailor Mars and it’s also Rei’s Star Seed. In the manga, it’s either implied or outright stated that they can be reborn countless times.

If I’m mistaken feel free to correct me.

So it's always going to be them, but with different names/identities? How does Chibi fit into it though, or is she just the exception (she does become Sailor Moon if I'm not wrong)?

I believe Moon to be different than the rest. She didn't exist in the past as a guardian, her powers are not planetary. So her daughter is probably different as well. We know that Sailor Moon ceased to exist when Chibi Usa was born. Queen Serenity didn't get reborn I believe all the guardians have star seeds, but the Moon Kingdom descendents doesn't. Their star seed is the Siler Crystal, and they inherit it with each generator.

Yet why did Moon do Sailor Planet Attack in the anime and Pgsm if she's not a planetary guardian?

This can explain Chibi Usa, but then what about the sailor asteroids. They are Chibi Usa's guardians and not the original planetary guardians. I guess it is because they didn't die thanks to the longer life span in Crystal Tokyo, so new guardians were born. If Naoko wasn't that lazy. There is a set up for a wonderful sequel explaining all that. Maybe Chibi Usa left the Earth at some point, meeting the Asteroid senshi and join forces with them. Where are the outers in the future? Where they not reborn at all in that time-line? This can be turned into such a nice story... So much potential.

From what I understand, everyone in possession of a Sailor Crystal gets re-incarnated after they pass away and that crystal goes with them in their next life. When it's the immediate next life, they share many common characteristics and similarities with their previous one and have a closer connection to their past life (e.g. Princess Serenity/Usagi Tsukino). If it's a reincarnation much further down into the future they have less (e.g. Usagi Tsukino/Sailor Cosmos).

Thank you for explaining this!

They still feel like real people to me...then again, when listing popularity things, they listed, for example, Ami Mizuno and Sailor Mercury as two separate characters...
