The first of two 23-episode volumes of the first anime series' Blu-ray Collection will go on sale on June 14, and the second will go on sale on August 9. The transfer will be an high-definition "upconversion" of the standard-definition material. The initial release will have a deluxe cover sleeve.

The staff plans to continue the Blu-ray release with Sailor Moon R and three movies.
It was expected after the NHK HD broadcast but it's finally happening now.

EDIT: Could someone translate the rest of the details? I'm curious about the extras.

EDIT 2: Thanks Rika :)

No mention of the TV commercials (or TV spots) from the DVDs?

Ugh, that's a shame and yet another missed opportunity to include those old LaserDisc & VHS extras that certain people here keep asking about. :|

I love that even with a blu-ray release, Sailor Moon gets the shaft in cool extras. While I like the main covers (it seems like they're using untouched old artwork), the slipcovers look very tacky.

oh so from now on they are going to refer to the 90's anime as PRETTY GUARDIAN instead of PRETTY SOLDIER Sailor Moon?

Is it just me or the slipcovers say Pretty Guardian? Also, in my opinion those are ugly lol

They've been using Guardian instead of Soldier for all the versions of Sailor Moon for about a decade now. I'll be frustrated if these end up having better video quality than the Viz release.

It would have been even more cool if they had gotten Kazuko Tadano herself to draw special new covers for the first two seasons.

Same. If anything, they should've gotten Katsumi Tamegai or Miho Shimogasa to do artwork, since I believe they still work for Toei. Miho did the covers for the Cutey Honey F DVDs awhile back and they look stunning.

Whoever did the artwork for the original movie DVD set was also great, could've brought them back.

Here's the official Toei Video page. I'm really curious why they decided not to alter/update the old artwork this time around. Instead of giving us an "episode guide", they should really give us a booklet with all the previous video release artwork...

It's really disappointing the original laserdiscs have better extras than both the DVD and BD release.

I think the artwork itself is fine, it's how it's used is tacky. Especially that blue background. Yuck!
Well, the official site describes that sleeve as "luxurious." :o
