New anime announced at 20th Anniversary event

The more I look at these images...the more I fall in love.

I love the fact they're all now sporting lipstick.

And Sweater-Ami!!!

I just want to hold her and squee over her and carry her around in my pocket and never let her go!

With the way things are shaping up, I feel pretty justified in feeling confident that Princess Serenity will FINALLY have fully silver hair, as she was meant to, especially with Naoko's heavy involvement.

Since the new anime is called "Sailor Moon Crystal" ....
I'm thinking & hoping that Sailor Moon's transformation from day 1 will be "Moon Crystal Power Make Up!"

Nope.

It will still be "Moon Prism Power...MAKE UP!"

In each and every incarnation of the Dark Kingdom arc, that's always, always been her first transformation phrase. (When Chibi-Usa first becomes Sailor Chibi Moon, I absolutely loved how her first transformation phrase was "Moon Prism Power...MAKE UP!" It was like the passing of the torch, in a way, among those of the White Moon.)

haha it's from the I Got a Boy video It's from the part where all 9 members of the group begin to realise they're all dating the same guy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wq7ftOZBy0E What makes it funnier is that Hyoyeon, the girl in the gif, was recently accused of punching her boyfriend (it was later clarified that she'd scratched him near the eye and that there was nothing wrong with him, he was just drunk when he called the police on her). And now that you mention it, Hyo WOULD be a good Usagi. They're both pretty goofy and the most chatty members. They're both friends with everyone and would never say a bad word against them.

Anyhow, that's pretty off topic. Did anyone notice that Ami, Rei, Mako & Minako all seem to have the same bangs? :L Seems kinda lazy to me....

I don't adore the designs, but I can see the potential. For example, when I first viewed them, Moon and Mercury disappointed me. But then I got to Jupiter and Venus. I like the images of Jupiter/Makoto's face... they seem very "her", I love her blushing expression. And Venus's closeups look really good too. But we'll have to see.

No matter what it looks like, bottom line is we're still getting a brand new Sailor Moon anime 20 years later. I'm not going to complain.

Is it me, or do the character designs shown at the conference (not the ones on the official site) look very similar to the poses of the senshi at the end of the first opening for Sailor Moon R?

I'm not saying i hate the new cast, but surely i will be disappointed if the new seiyuu make drastic change to the old voice, cause i love the old voice too much especially mercury(aya hisakawa), venus(Rika Fukami), mars( Michie Tomizawa), neptune( Masako Katsuki) , pluto(Chiyoko Kawashima) and saturn(Yūko Minaguchi)...

You're definitely going to end up disappointed then because I sincerely doubt they hired new voice talent just to have them emulate the older seiyuu. That would be completely unfair to the new staff, to be honest.

Just same small fix feelings about
Squid Girl doing Sailor Mercury.
Though I like Venus' and Jupiter's voices.

well it looks like im going to be disappointed...i love the old voice...cant imagine how the new cast can give the best impression to old fans... those old voice just like a trademark for each character and it is unique...wish mercury still have the old voice ...sob sob...

I have to admit that the redesign on the right is more appealing. Although the whole thing about the angular faces is meant to imitate how Naoko drew them in the manga.

Agreed, it does look more appealing but hope it looks different from with actual movement in the anime. Sometimes these standard images don't correlate the same way as they look in the actual anime.

Well, wasn't much of a fan of Tadano's Sailor Moon either, so perhaps the character designer will change if there is a season 2. If Japanese fans are pretty vocal about it, things might change.

I do like the edit fits better in my opinion.

Now that I have had time to digest the announcement and take a better look at this image, I noticed how skinny their necks are and how weird it looks in proportion to the rest of their bodies. And now I can't un-see it. Now it just looks awkward to me, especially Jupiter.

Speaking about a PV trailer, I feel like it'd be appropriate for Toei to release it one or two months (May or June-ish) before Crystal airs. That way we'll be given a taste and know what to expect. Then again, I bet they wanna still keep it wrapped up like a iron-chained, overdue Christmas gift.
