ACT 14. SAILOR MARS
Scratch that.
Act 11. Sailor Mars. *face palm take 2*
Anyway, just going to mention this here: Originally, Acts 14-17 were entitled: "Black Moon Koan: Sailor Mars," "Black Moon Berthier: Sailor Mercury," "Black Moon Petz: Sailor Jupiter," and "Black Moon Calaveras: Sailor Venus." For some reason these titles were changed for the revised edition. In any case, Tokyopop arbitrarily decided to shorten Act 14/11's title to just "Sailor Mars," but went with "Black Moon Bertie*" for the next chapter, "Black Moon Prizma" for the one after that, and finally "Black Moon Avery vs Sailor Venus" for Act 17, because what is consistency? Not something this franchise has ever heard of, that's for sure!
I mean... They make Sailor Moon lingerie *now*. I'm sure the laxatives aren't too far off. Maybe for the next reboot, targeting senior women.
It's interesting that they didn't flip this page. I know there's a page in the next volume I think that they didn't flip, so I'm going to try and keep an eye out for that.
We see you checking out Mina's cleavage, Rei.
Four Sisters of Deception >>> Spectre Sisters and Supernatural Sisters, don't @ me. (Still prefer my "Corpse Candle Sisters" translation though
)
Why would her nickname be "Rini" if her name is "Bunny," which is supposed to be Serena's nickname but has apparently become her birth name? And then in the first picture diary chapter next volume, she gives her birth name as Serenity, apparently in a botched attempt to make "Rini" as a nickname make snese. Which means that this girl has THREE nicknames: Bunny, Rini, and Small Lady. A hot mess.
Originally, Shingo calls her "Chibi-Usagi" here (evidently the genesis of "Chibiusa"), prompting her to remark, "I'm not chibi." The dialog change here makes Rini's "I'm not little" apparently be in response to Bunny calling her a little kid on the previous page, but it just feels awkward.
Was Raye's school called the "First School for Girls" in the dub? Because I don't remember that, so I'm kind of confused as to why Tokyopop changed it from T-A Girls Academy. If they were going to try localizing it, given that it's a Catholic school, you'd think they'd have gone with "St. Anne's Academy for Girls" or something.
Kotono is called "Kate" here, but I'm fairly certain she's called Kotono later on in the manga.
I totally became obsessed with spontaneous human combustion the first time I read this chapter.
Are we meant to think the Black Moon is responsible for the cases in Europe?
If there was a recent case in Sendai Hill, shouldn't Raye have heard about it? That is where she lives after all...
I don't get why the spelling of the dub villain names was so problematic. Per the voice over scripts, the correct spelling is "Katzi" not "Catzi" (same goes for *"Berti" not "Bertie")
Why. Are. We. Still. Doing. "You're Punished." !?!?!?!
(Also, is Tuxedo Mask blasting energy out of his cane in that panel, or ???)
1. Is it the Princess's scepter, or Queen Serenity's?
2. In either case, why do we never see them wielding it in any Silver Millennium flashbacks after this? We only see Queen Serenity holding Moon Stick(s) of dubious design in the flashbacks we get in the next two arcs; shouldn't she be holding the Moon Rod instead? And if the Moon Rod was QS's item, that only further supports my belief that the Moon Stick rightfully belongs to Venus.
3. If the Moon Rod is Queen Serenity's, then doesn't that mean it already existed? So it wasn't born out of Darien and Serena's love. Or is this evidence that Queen Serenity and Prince Endymion *were* having an affair after all?
4. If it's the queen's item, shouldn't the attack phrase be "Moon
Queen Halation," not "Moon Princess Halation"? (Or at least "Silver Moon Halation" or "Moon Royal Halation"?)
5. Using "Moon Rod" instead of "Moon Scepter" and "Moon Princess Halation" instead of "Moon Scepter Elimination" is exhibit 47 of Tokyopop's half-@$$ed attempt to align the manga with the dub.
Anyway, the first time I read this chapter, Raye's getting abducted had me shook.
