Does anybody remember the Animerica article about Wedding Peach from the 90s? If you do, what are your opinions about it? Personally in my opinion I thought it was horribly written and none of the writers of that article actually give Wedding Peach a chance which is very disappointing. If nobody knows about the article, I will provide the link to the TechnoGirls Wedding Peach website so that you can read the information about the article there.

It is pretty valid criticsm. The show never really got beyond the monster of the week formula. The only thik I find superior is the animation. The show for me has a better animation than Sailor Moon and way more consistent. It is eye candy but very simple, although it had potential.

It's fine if you think that and I respect your opinion too. I agree that the animation in Wedding Peach very amazing and that the animators worked very hard into making it look good.

I actually got Part 1 of the Wedding Peach anime from the Otaku Joe's table at a convention a while back, so I'll have to see for myself what to think of the anime. I think the manga's fine, though not as good as other magical girl manga I read (Sailor Moon, Tokyo Mew Mew, Saintia Sho, Unmagical Girl, that one ironically being about a magical girl from a niche, not so big hit anime series), but the Love Angel designs there are godawful. I am planning to get artbooks and maybe anime film comics, but they're expensive as hell.

That Animerica "review" is godawful, it's just very four vague statements, c'mon reviewers, give us actual reasons why you think this anime sucks so much instead of being rant posers. It kinda reminds me of some reviews of Sailor Moon I read on THEM Anime I really disliked, not because they gave S a 3 star rating or Stars a 1 star, didn't explain why but because they said stuff like "it was revealed Usagi wasn't the focus of the series at all, but Galaxia", when it was GALAXIA SAYING SHE WAS THE LIGHT OF HOPE THE SAILORS, INCLUDING USAGI, WERE WONDERING ABOUT. She claimed she was "one of the original Moonies" but the fact that she along with another reviewer had a complete misunderstanding of certain aspects of the characters or story is not only entirely embarrassing and makes them look like amateurs, but it also comes off like they didn't even pay attention to the anime or have the memory of Gilderoy Lockhart (I don't think I need to post links but if you want me to, I shall). Trish Ledoux's "preteen bride" accusation would rub some people the wrong way I assume (reminds me of how one THEM review accused all adult fans of Precure as sick pedophiles who loved sick yuri of Nagisa and Honoka), and Animerica's staff, (is it just me when I say this?) sounds like they're coming off as a bit flippant and arrogant. Also, THEM gave Wedding Peach 3 stars and though I don't remember much of their review I think they said it was alright.

And Daisy doesn't have a "turd on her head", sheesh. And she looks way better than the original character designs:

Wedding Peach's art looks a little bit rougher and more washed out than Sailor Moon's but I still think it's good. And looking at that "Golden Hero Goldoran" the article talks about, not a fan of the art style, the animation is pretty poor for a Sunrise anime and it looks more like a mid 80's anime than a 1995 one.

And even if it wasn't a huge hit necessarily, Wedding Peach must have done something right. Heck, I'm planning to do my own magical girl style manga/doujin with the main magical girl name character having the name "Magical Angel Sapphire Lily", partially inspired by Wedding Peach and of itself (but also because I noticed how "Peach" was reused for Cure Peach and "Daisy" for "Magical Daisy", a fictional magical girl anime in the Magical Girl Raising Project series).

Consequently, I'm afraid the only way Wedding Peach could be popular is if it gets a grimdark treatment. :blue:

I agree that the Wedding Peach Animerica article is very horrible and it makes me so angry when I read it too since I am a huge Wedding Peach fan. I don't understand why Animerica made that article in the first place and seriously if they haven't created that article, then Wedding Peach could have been popular here in the West just like Sailor Moon. It's so crazy how those people who work for Animerica don't give Wedding Peach a chance and that they can just treat it like trash when in reality Wedding Peach is a very amazing series.

Yeah, sadly they are to blame. I wonder what new Amierica reviewers, if there are any there, would think of it...

Heck, I don't always agree with some reviewers like Bennett the Sage yet I think he's cool.

I higly doubt it could have been any more popular and this article matters at all. Wedding Peach aired in a lot of countries and never had the same success, based on re-runs. It was not that popular in Japan either as it is one if the few shows that never got proper remaster even for dvd release. It is more of niche cult following. I would love to it to have a remaster so I can see these beautiful scenes in good quality and proper brighter colors. But I do not know who owns the show now, as the studio is gone for quite a while.

Not to mention, who knows if the original master tapes are still around, probably with them having no timecode, and over time, stretched, warped, or had the oxide fall off, or probably stored in a closet or a basement somewhere, where they were subject to years of humid Japanese summers.

I doubt masters of the show even exist. As far as I know it is in limbo. Too bad because the animation was very pretty.

Wedding Peach did get a DVD boxed set release in Japan! It's the only way to see the 3 Furil concerts, each on its own disc.

Wedding Peach oddly enough is hugely popular in Germany and even more so in South Korea where new licensed products are being made even now.

The Japanese DVDs are done with masters from laserdisc. They never remastered it, which makes us think they have no materials anymore.

Wedding Peach actually had some really cool storylines once you get to the meat of the story. I think it has some twists that are cooler and more unpredictable than Sailor Moon. It would be cool to get a remaster, especially since Cardcaptor Sakura got one and I didn’t even think that show was super popular even though I loved watching it on Kids WB. I remember watching Wedding Peach when I lived in China.

It's true that Wedding Peach has a very amazing story and that it's unique in it's own way. I agree that it would be nice for Wedding Peach to have a remaster release for DVD and Blu-ray, plus I even have all of the Wedding Peach ADV Films DVDs. Hopefully if Wedding Peach does get remastered one day, maybe Sentai Filmworks or Viz Media could get the rights to the series and try to remaster it since ADV films is no longer around which is very unfortunate.

It's probably the most popular mahou shoujo anime after Sailor Moon. It can't be compared to WP in terms of popularity.

Let's not give the opportunity to Viz to remaster something again... I mean if the show doesn't have materials for a new remaster they will be given the same ADV and the Japanese dvd do. Viz screwed perfectly fine masters for Sailor Moon S1-3, so imagine what they could do with poor old masters...

Do you think Wedding Peach should be rebooted and done strictly following the manga. I'd also like to see a Remastered of wedding peach with a redub. The english dub wasnt bad the only thing that was off was the transformation calls and attacks the VAs (mainly Daisy) was often to shirll and shirky.

Is it? I don’t remember anyone ever talking about it growing up. I was definitely the only person who watched it that I knew of, even though everyone watched Sailor Moon. Even to this day, I don’t hear anyone talking about it.

Card Captor Sacura is indeed one of the most popular mahou shoujo titles and still a lucrative ip in Japan and other countries. Wedding Peach is in limbo and even 10 years ago when i was looking more info on the Japanese dvds it was already obscure. It was somewhat popular in Germany, but CardCaptor Sakura is on a whole new league

That is true and it's not easy to remaster an older anime sometimes. So since Viz Media is out of the question, I'm guessing maybe Sentai Filmworks could be the one who can remaster the Wedding Peach series. As for Funimation, I'm not really so sure about them since they have been dealing with a lot of issues lately.

Yeah it is, but its popularity didn't extend to the US. Just like Winx Club is a multi-billion dollar franchise and it's long-forgotten in the US at this point.
