To be honest I would love for Wedding Peach to have a reboot anime series just like Sailor Moon does so that way it can be faithful to the manga without any changes. It's so crazy how the Wedding Peach anime is so different from the manga, but I love both the anime and manga equally though.

It was beautiful art and animation-wise. But the story was just not there... It didn't do anything but monster of the day and the manga was even more simple. I do not see a reboot being needed, because of that. The show never even got a remastered version, the studio which did it went out of business a long time ago, so it would be a nightmare to do anything with it.

Where did you get those scans from the manga, just wondering? The prototype outfits are alright, but the official ones are better (I'd add the white gloves Proto Peach had though). Looking at the Tumblr links, I'd love to see what the PC game would have been like, a sidescroller?

Sadly I'm not sure if there's going to be a reboot or not...the popularity I believe only could be average compared to ones like Sailor Moon and Madoka (from what I've seen of that, I don't get its popularity, it's overrated in my eyes). I highly doubt it's obscure though, Nao still does sketches/pictures of the characters.

And with this:

Either in this universe's Japan Ami and Rei were in a different school or maybe this could have taken place before Ami transferred to Juuban Municipal Junior High.

I don't remember, but I just took out the physical manga from Viz and there is a slightly differently translated one in Vol 2, including with the correct date of July 7.
Perhaps it was from a fan translation.

I guess.

I wonder if it's even possible to find the manga now...
Unlike the show, it was released by a still-active company (Viz) but it's out of print.

When looking up the manga on eBay, I wound up buying the first issue in a really terrible bad-smelling shape, and then found all 7 volumes (6 volumes + failed moe reboot "Young Love") being sold in near mint condition.

I'm sure you can find it on "those shitty websites full of popups" though then you wind up with bad translations like the picture above.

EDIT: Just a note that the manga included a very strange translation of "shôjo" on the inside of the front cover:

shôjo (sho'jo) n. 1. Manga appealing to both female and male readers. 2. Exciting stories with true-to-life characters and the thrill of exotic locales. 3. Connecting the heart and mind through real human relationships.

Thanks.

I'm also hoping to attend a convention this July (it has stuff with anime and all forms of popular media), hopefully it'll have copies of those maybe.

Anime conventions are fun! I went to SaikouCon in Pennsylvania last summer, and AnimeNYC this fall.
I hope to go to both again next year, and definitely will go to SaikouCon.

I also had one just 2 1/2 weeks ago. And the very first Cosplayer who hit the corner of my eye on that morning, standing right next to me at a Crossroad, only moments before the Event started, was a girl dressed as :usagi:!*

Later, a couple dressed like Endymion & Serenity played in a Shamisen Ensemble.

*And no, I didn't take a photo because I would've needed to ask her permission, and I'm just too shy to do so... :(

Bit of a funny thing I didn't mention, if you look up "Wedding Peach" on Ebay, a lot of the times the majority of what you'll find is actually stuff that has Mario and Princess Peach getting married, like that's the #1 thing you'll find, then #2 will have it be based on the anime.

Also glimpsed at the first chapter of the manga, there Peach actually fought in her wedding dress without turning into her Angel form:

Pretty cool, but during a certain scene when she gets all excited about being saved by that guy who gave her her brooch, they used a certain noun that made me go all...well... ::eeklez:: :wtf:

Basically Momoko's all thinking "It's a dream, this is all a dream!! I'm happy I can dream with so many beautiful men, aah, such a delicious dream," and on top of her are the words "WANK WANK WANK..." ::eeklez: (Not kidding, this is what it said, dunno if it's a bad fan translation or not)

How old is she again? ::eeklez:

Looking at the other chapters, the Love Angels are actually called the "Fighter Angels", and I do prefer the anime designs, not gonna lie. I do like the constant SD/chibi humor things though.

I find that the more and more anime and manga I watch and read the more I notice Sailor Moon's influence all over the place, not even just in the Mahou Shojo genre but Shojo as a whole.

For example in Fruits Basket, (which is just a regular shojo, not even Magical Girl) there's this one couple that really echoes back to Serenity and Endyimon's "destined miracle romance" or at least feels like it's taking influence from it. The man dreams of his future lover and immediately gets attached to her and vows to be with her from that dream with nary an explanation as to why he's attached to that dream other than perhaps reincarnation, he's also a lot like Mamoru in that he's a loner, extremely intelligent/booksmart and empathetic. His SO from his dream is a childish crybaby like Usagi (but twisted) and her star sign is even a Cancer too so she's ruled by the Moon! (There's also an older woman in the series who's painted as the main villain who, very much like Beryl holds a vengeful grudge against this girl) Oh yeah and they have an age gap too! Considering this manga was first released in 1998 only 6 years after SM started you can't help but wonder if the mangaka took slight inspiration from Usagi and Mamoru's fairytale-like romance for this couple.

So yeah it's not even only Mahou Shojo, Naoko's concepts and influence can be felt across the entire shojo genre even in how certain couples are portrayed.

Say what you will about Naoko's writing but she was extremely important and influential in the anime and manga world and her concepts were good enough and original enough to inspire others in their writing.

I love Wedding Peach, I own the first season on DVD. Sadly I never finished the series though! I've tried to obtain the second season on DVD but it seems to be outrageously expensive everywhere I look. I hope someday I'll be able to complete it.

Even though I like the show a lot and think it's really cute and fun I don't like it near as much as Sailor Moon, though. Sailor Moon is the superior of the two shows imo, as great as Wedding Peach is, it's a little too derivative at times and gets really cheesy and campy. But still a great series worth checking out especially if you're into magical girl series.

Btw -- Angel Salvia aka Scarlet O' Hara is the best Angel!!

Does anybody remember the Animerica article about Wedding Peach from the 90s? If you do, what are your opinions about it? Personally in my opinion I thought it was horribly written and none of the writers of that article actually give Wedding Peach a chance which is very disappointing. If nobody knows about the article, I will provide the link to the TechnoGirls Wedding Peach website so that you can read the information about the article there.
