Question

Spoiler: show
Does Eternal show Usagi coughing blood? Or was the scene from the manga censored?
Yeah I asked the same question as well. Btw I don't think spoiler thag isn't needed for the review page. I also had some one more question about part 1 were Chibi Usa's dreams of her mother cut and if NQS appears in part 1, was her hair blond or silver?

I have a theory that they censor blood in “Crysternal.” It’s the reason Beryl’s death was changed. Of course, it is only a suspicion & I might be wrong.

Starting with the animation cuz that’s what a lot of people care about. The rest of the review will come tonight when I’m home. Just know that it was faithful to a tee.

Anyway! Animation,

It was a little bit of a step down from the first part. Nothing wowed me like Mercury’s awakening. Nothing was really bad but it definitely felt like I was watching Season 3 on a big screen rather than a theatrical release at points. All the scenes with Saturn looked good, her transformation was very short but very fluid. World Shaking and Dead scream also had slightly new chereography than the 90s and it looked great and fluid but there was a lot of off-model faces that brought it down a bit. Scenes with the Senshi running and a lot of the hair animation was choppy. Not sure if these problems had anything to do with the impact of COVID during the making but yeah. The still frames all look great but in motion it’s a little choppy, although I do have high standards. The last 20 minutes things picked up a bit and things looked nicer but there wasn’t anything that really wowed me.

The action basically just involved them throwing beams and light at each other, none of it is really ‘real time’ so I was a little disappointed with the action. But I guess it is Sailor Moon and not Precure, after all. Would’ve been nice to see them really kicking ass, though.

Anyway if you’re happy with the standard of season 3 you’ll be fine with this.

I wanna watch at home so I can give a second opinion but this is what I think of it as of now.

Rest of the review will becoming later.

That's kinda disappointing. No throwbacks like the R and SuperS movies. And this is supposed to be the manga chapters that would have more creative freedom.

Thank for you review some of it seems a bit too negative to my taste and a bit in contradiction with other reviews (regarding animation quality for instance) but I do appreciate that you took time immediately after the movie to comment it.
Anyway I do hope you took your precautions regarding Covid and the full room! :)

Finally having a proper Dream arc anime. For 75 minutes they managed to adapt most of the manga all the way to the flashbacks. This is what mattered most to me.

I didn't see a HUGE downgrade personally but I guess I don't have good eyes for this stuff but I will attest there were more areas where it looked to me they had been lazy and/or there were a few spots where CG had been used for sure.

I will try not to be affected by others' opinions because if they keep saying part 2 is a downgrade from part 1, I will be likely to believe it and see only errors in it.

I personally didn't see anything that HUGELY stood out to me.

Some people on this forum are VERY VERY picky about stuff...too much so personally - yes there were a few spots that stood out much the same as there was for part 1 but then what can you expect with a film being produced to a certain budget and with multiple contract studios ?

Personally I enjoyed the movie and it felt better paced than part 1 but at least part of the blame for that lies in the source material.

I will see this movie as the definitive version of the Dream Arc but I'm sure there will be some people who will say "lets wait for the next remake" but then you can never please everyone :(

Sorry guys just on my way home from meeting my friend so I’ll get to it when I get back.

I didn’t wanna be TOO negative as I know it’s difficult for overseas fans who can’t watch it to form their own opinion. But on the other hand I am probably one of those ‘picky people’ so you don’t need to take my comments too seriously. I tend to be quite critical so what bothers me may not bother someone else’s experience at all. So take it with a grain of salt :) There’s nothing UGLY in the movies, so don’t worry too much. Just things that I personally wished they’d taken more care with.

Yeah I'll agree there was stuff that caught my eye and I was like "that's lazy / careless" but nothing butt ugly stands out like a country mile.

EDIT - Forgot to add I'm sure that when this gets to Netflix I'm sure there will be certain parties on this forum who will go over this film in frame by frame detaila and be like "this isn't how the manga is". Or "OMG they missed this detail".

You can't please everyone but in my opinion they've made a pretty reasonable effort this isn't a slap dash weekly TV series and you can see there as thought / effort especially in the stuff that matter but like I said this is a film made on a budget and they are not KyoAni ultra perfectionists.

They don't need to be too faithful to the Manga but rather faithful to what NT wanted the anime to be back then since the Manga seems rushed.
