I google translated some of the comments from the Youtube video and people are complaining... because they want to watch the show with the old voiceover. :loltext:
Watched it today. Can't say anything in particular. Old dub, or new dub, still light years better than Crystal.
I would assume those fans complaining in the comments section are the minority.

The new dub is a little too faithful to the original voice over for my taste. Mercury is referred to as "Mercury" instead of "Mercuriy", but I suspect Jupiter and Venus will be translated as "Yupiter" and "Venera". I don't really get the logic behind this, aside from wanting to be faithful to the original voice over, which...why would you?

Sabao Spray and Fire Soul are translated as Soap Rain and Spirit of Fire (again, like in the original) and they also translated Rei's chant (something the original didn't do!) as "Power, Harmony, Intuition, Energy, Healing, Vigilance". Just why? It sounds infinitely cooler in Japanese. They also can't seem to decide on "Akuryo Taisan". One minute it's "Evil spirit, be gone" the next it's "Evil spirit, disappear". In one episode!

On a positive side, Ami and Rei have good voices.

Too much nostalgia is always dangerous. Look at how much the Latin American Spanish dub of Crystal got screwed thanks to the idea of bringing back voice actresses in their 50s.

Age has nothing to do with it. A skilled voice actor who takes care of their voice should still be able to play the same character for years and years. Frank Welker has been voicing Fred in Scooby-Doo since 1969 and he still sounds pretty much the same. Kotono is in her fifties now and she can still play Usagi without any problems. If the Latin American actors are doing a bad job, it's not because they're in their fifties.

But the mexican cast souded just as old back in the day. They were never a good fit I like the Russian voices so far.The incosistences are jarring though. Overall the dub is ok. Let's see how will they handle Zoisite and Kunzite.

Yeah, I sure hope they're not taking the cues from the voice over where these two are concerned.

I just wondered because you are a native - are the male characters using 2 voice actors for all of them so far, or they just sound very similar.

I'm pretty sure there are only two male actors and five or six female.
The CTC dub for Winx doesn't have such a limited cast, does it? Do you think that if SM aired in the main channel like Winx does, it would have gotten a better dub?

Just checked. They are indeed voiced by two actors. Mamoru, Motoki, Zoisite and Umino are voiced by Oleg Virozub, while Jadeite, Kunzite, Nephrite, Kenji and Yuuichirou are voiced by Evgeny Rubtsov.

Winx is even worse. If I'm not mistaken they have only one voice for all the male characters.

LOL, so these aren't dubs. They're deluxe voiceovers

Pretty much. And that's actually big for Russia. Usually three or four voices for everyone is the limit for our dubbing companies.
