I’m pretty sure Italy let the license expire since it didn’t do as well as they had hoped.
Dynit wanted to renew, but it was refused.
Do not forget that in a convention Dynit said: we want Sailor Moon Crystal on DVD / Blu-Ray, but Toei requires a TV broadcast.
You had a broadcast in Italy several months later, and nothing in physical output.

In France, Kazé France repeatedly told French fans that they wanted to release season 3, but not a TV broadcast (Toei had planned to double season 3, they made a quote for it, but never followed up), and then they said it was not planned (they said since 2018 ) while before it was: we hope.

So the blocking of rights on physical media are there and for many years already.
Madman have deleted the page of the full Blu-Ray (Season 4) set, the pre-order for season 5 part 2, also deleted.

This franchise is giving the Disney Vault a run for its money.

I doubt Naoko would be that pedantic. Heck! Uranus still has her mantis arm after how many revisions?!
Especially since the "mistake" in the Viz booklet wasn't even technically a mistake - Toei themselves refer to Uranus and Neptune as "friends" rather than as "partners" or "lovers." Yet Naoko doesn't seem to be mad with Toei. (Or maybe she is, who knows.)

Well I don't know. I am sure SM will definitely sell like hot cakes in Spain. I don't have to doubt Selecta Vision's word.
However,I find it weird that Colombia has got the rights for a TV broadcast if there is a situation of blockage with the series.

Bumping this thread since it’s where we were discussing international rights.

Kaze Germany just announced they’re releasing their first blu-Ray sets this summer (July 20th). Looks like they’re also re releasing their DVDs.

Guess we can finally put the license revoking rumors to rest. Same goes with the rumors that Toei or Naoko are done with Kaze/Viz.

^That just leaves the horse's mouths at Selecta Vision and also Madman who delayed both Stars Part 2 & the SuperS complete sets with no update on new release dates.

The Madman holdup is weird. I wonder if it’s more just a distribution issue? Since they haven’t outright commented, I’m hoping it’s just postponed.

With Selecta Vision.. who knows? Maybe there was something else going on behind the scenes. Their pointing the finger at both Naoko and Viz could also be an assumption on their part or just an excuse to not go into it further. We’ve heard that Naoko can be particularly picky with the license before, but I’m sure there’s a lot more that goes on in business negotiations that we don’t know.

Most of the companies who’ve had issues (Towers, Selecta, and the Brazilian dvd company) operated on a smaller scale than Viz. I’m wondering if it just ended up being a financial issue.

I could definitely be wrong though. These are just my theories. But clearly, they’re not banning Viz or Kaze from renewing the license.

Well, JBC's (the Brazilian publisher which published the shinsouban manga and is releasing the kanzenban this year) former editor-in-chief stated that when they were negotiating the rights, PnP (Naoko's company) told them something in the lines of "your country's market is really small. We don't need you. In order to release our product, you'll need to comply with all our demands exhaustively. So, are you in?". Maybe PnP just thought Spain's money wasn't worth their while and prevented the home video release from happening, although their business plans were approved by Toei, as they stated themselves. I don't know how profitable is Spain's anime market, though.

I don't know guys... Kazé put on hold the release in September 2019 :

KAZÉ gab heute bekannt, dass die geplante Neuauflage von »Sailor Moon« vorerst auf Eis gelegt werden musste. Grund dafür ist eine Sperrung durch den Lizenzgeber in allen Lokalisierungsgebieten. Der Publisher will sich um eine schnelle Lösung bemühen.

which translates into English as :

KAZÉ announced today that the planned new edition of »Sailor Moon« had to be put on hold for the time being. The reason for this is a block by the licensor in all localization areas. The publisher wants to find a quick solution.

From their Facebook publication last September :

Well the good news is that they clearly found a solution. Maybe they just wanted everything to come out closer to the movies or to fall in line with whatever promo they may have planned.
