Since early 2014, a fan rumour saying that the R movie got a Brazilian dub with a mixed cast has been spread in Brazilian moonie FB groups.
Now, seven years after the dub was apparently produced, a fan leaked scenes of it. But she wasn't allowed to properly copy it, so she filmed It from a screen.

Returning from the Classic dub from 96:
Marli Bortoletto (Moon)
Cristina Rodrigues (Mars)
Isabel de Sá (Jupiter)
Cassius Romero (Tuxedo Mask) (though he doesn't appear in the leaked scenes)

Returning from the R-Stars dub from 2000-2002:
Melissa Garcia (Mercury)
Priscilla Concepción (Venus)
Úrsula Bezerra (Chibiusa) (also doesn't appear in these scenes)

We don't know who voiced the cats. It seems to be a direct translation of the Japanese dialogue, using American DiC-era names.

If the movie was dubbed to Portuguese, and it looks like it was, and with the beloved voice actress from the first season, I wonder if a distributor could get the rights and release the movie “as is.” No new dub necessary.

Brazilian fans deserve something to remind them of Sailor Moon, as it was in the mid-90s, and the “R” movie DVD would be a perfect piece.

Since "Amy's" line about "Darien" being popular with men was left untouched and the attack names aren't messed up, this is probably the first and only Brazilian SM production sourced from the original material instead of the Mexican dub. :ami:

I thought it had been done in the 90s. Now I wonder if Naoko authorized it.
There's no way this would have been possible, since the series' dub concluded in 2002 and there are actresses from the second cast involved in the project (Mercury and Venus' VAs)

Then what is most likely is that a distributor planned to release the R movie, but the plan didn’t materialize.

I assume that Cartoon Network (it was Cartoon Network, wasn’t it?) never broadcasted any of the Sailor Moon movies. Thus, no dubs were available for the movies.

Yes, CN only aired R-Stars.

Maybe a distributor (perhaps, the same distributor that attempted to release the “S” season? I don’t know) had the release of the R movie in mind.

BTW, why was the release of the “S” season discontinued in your country?

I suspect that what Brazilians want the most is a release of the first season with the original VAs, just as it aired in the country in the 90’s. That dub was close to perfection.

I also love the Spanish dub and I am happy that folks in Latin America got their original dub, even though I have heard that the DVD boxsets, allegedly, were expensive—but again all Sailor Moon things are expensive.

They felt the release wasn't worth their money, since it was just three episodes with the same old dub they heavily disliked when it came out in 2001. And on top of that, it was expensive.
They were promised the redub they were so eager about, but Toei announced they would be reusing the old dub in the last minute.
It was like selling the S/SuperS OG English dub in the early 2010s before it got cult status. With the difference that... Almost 10 years have passed since this release and Brazilian moonies still don't see a lot of redeeming qualities in their R-Stars dub.

I don’t know about Brazil, but the first season of “R” costs $3,400 pesos in Mexico (just saw it on Mercado Libre). That’s $160 dollars USD—and I happen to know that the average household income in Mexico is $850 dollars USD per month. ::eeklez:

Someone should tell Naoko Takeuchi that Sailor Moon is an anime and not René Lalique glassware.

I don't know if Naoko is really the one to blame here. I'm aware she is well-known for demanding ~HUGE~ fees for episode sales, but the minimum wage in Latin American countries is usually ridiculous and home entertainment isn't that cheap for your average latino.

This kind of reminds me of the sadly unreleased Italian dub a bit. Tgey released the R movie and planned to start with the shiw right after, but something happened. The only difference is the fact tge Iralian redub used the original Japanese names and the idea was to be a faithful uncut dub. I watched the R movie with the dub. It was miles better than ghe existing one. Better voice acting, more appropriate voices. Here from what I can hear the voice for Usagi is way better than other Portuguese dub. Too bad it wasn't meant to be.

It's the same actress that voiced her in Season 1. But 17 years later.

Moon, Mars and Jupiter's VAs are from this ensemble:

Mercury and Venus are from this one:

They got actresses from both casts to reprise their roles.
