Hey I was going to read the Sailor Moon Manga, but I have to ask, is the Sailor V prequel worth reading? Like does it add anything to the overall story? Thank you!

Sailor V and the Side Stories are worth reading , you could read them after you finish the main story (atleast that's what I did .)

You could use a timeline like this one to see what Sailor Moon chapters each side-story was published around the time of. (If you're reading the newer collections, you'll have to add 1 to every chapter number after a "Part 2" on that list because it's referring to the numbering in old collections that combined a few chapters to reduce the total to 52.)

I love Codename Sailor V and the side stories. I thought they really add good character development to the characters and Codename Sailor V is like a whole new season that focuses on Sailor V like a season 0.

Sailor V is a good read. It has the same kind of setup that the original Sailor Moon anime had. The drawback is that up until around the last two chapters, there is really not a lot of character development for Minako. But there are some great support characters in the story, and the story is very funny. One character, who resembles Umino, actually helped Sailor V fight a monster or two.
