Yeah...I kind of got so pissed off by the ADV quality that I ended up purchasing DVD's with picture taken from the Japanese DVD editions with ADV's subtitles synchronized with the video.

Yes. I'm evil.

But I don't really care because ADV doesn't bother to check it's sound and video quality.

I'm pretty happy with my Pioneer/Geneon S and SuperS seasons though. Of course, I did spend YEARS tracking down all the volumes in SuperS because I waited too long to get them.

Do you people know how hard it is to find Pegasus Collection 4 with the foil spine Region 1? IMPOSSIBLE. 8 months of Ebay searching. :x

I still have yet to get Season 2. After he stopped selling on ebay I kind of felt like the security and timeliness of buying was at risk. Ebay makes me feel secure I guess...I don't want to send an order and still be waiting for some DVD's 3 months later. I'm not a patient man. Even Amazon.com doesn't satisfy me sometimes, hahhaha

That applies to basically all Japanese DVDs, the only exception I know of being Ghibli ones, but they're super-mega-awesomely-expensive-wow-with-everything DVDs, quality you couldn't really expect anywhere else.

Speaking of R2, I have never seen any of the sailor moon musicals in subtitles. Do they exist?

None of the R2 (Japanese releases) were ever subtitled and Toei has never revealed plans to subtitle them now or anytime in the future, so...

What's fun about the Region 2 versions is that the movies (and possibly the specials) have special audio tracks with only the sound effects and music and no voices. So you could technically make a horrendously evil fandub really really easily. :D

The Lunar Archivist

Thus was launched a thousand fandubs from HELL-o my name is Travis.

I wish the show itself had such options, but since those were mastered in Mono there is no sound effects track (*sigh*).

True... true.... and there are some really terrible ones out there.

I luv my Region 2 DVDs from Toei *hugs them to death* I wonder if Toei have signed up for the Blu-ray??? Anyone know? Although it would be a pain to collect the entire series again... (I ain't made of money... yet), but with even more enhanced video and audio I guess it would be worth it. I just can't wait to get my Pioneer Blu-ray player because it's supposed to enhance the already standard DVD quality :D

Pioneer did a good job with S releasing it on DVD, but then as it got to the end of the series, they started to act all smarty-pants and start using a secondary audio track (to enhance the sound) behind the original voices and music... Although a good idea... IF they got the syncing right.... so now you're stuck with a Japanese version of the series with a constant echo of music and sound effects *smashes head against a wall* but thankfully Toei's DVDs are fine... yay! :P

I'm very interested in Blu-Ray...Do you know anything about the new region chart for Blu-Ray disc? I know it's much less complicated than the several regions of DVD.

Did you purchase a Japanese Blu-Ray player or an American?

HD DVD is region free.

Anyway I'm not sure there'd be much point to Blu-Ray Sailor Moon. The R2 DVDs were not mastered back film or anything so I don't see how you'd get anything more than 480 lines out of it. Hell the R2 released of all but the 1st season aren't even progressive scan. It's TV so I don't see the point of doing it in anything but standard definition.

As for the movies there's always more to get out of film as far as resolution goes so Blu-Ray or HD DVD for that would surely look great.

And yes the speechless audio is on the specials as well.

Even though HD may be region free, Blu-ray still isn't. I have already seen the news about Akira and a few other anime films being released for HD/Blu-ray (one of the two, or maybe both?). Would be nice to see the Sailor Moon movies released in it also.

I live in Australia, so I will be buying an Australian player. I still waiting for Pioneer to release their Blu-ray player coz they are just one of the best distributors of DVDs players anywhere and I'm sure they won't let me down for blu-ray either.

I can only hope that the series will one day be released in blu-ray even if it isn't.. but who knows... anyway, it will still look a lot better when playing on the blu-ray player anyway so i'll be happy for now... I guess when they release their Blu-ray-ROM drives I'll have to save up for that too :P

I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean the normal DVDs will look better played on a Blu-Ray player or that a Blu-Ray version of the show would look better?

In either case what makes you think that? When it comes to video there's no way to get resolution that's not there. The show is 480 lines of resolution and I don't see that changing.

I was talking about a normal DVD being played on a Blu-ray player. You'd think that they wouldn't be able to change the resolution, but apparently it somehow enhances the pixels (don't ask me how - some magical blu-ray techology powers), but I have seen proof on my friend's player and it looks awesome!
