Okay, so I've thought about this for the longest time. In the manga, when the senshi succeed in saving Crystal Tokyo from the Black Moon, Sailor Moon seems to express a very strong desire to meet up with Neo-Queen Serenity, her future self.

Which makes me wonder two things:

~1. Am I the only one that feels it a little strange that she'd be so eager to meet up with her future self (even to the point of being moved to tears)?

~2. Wouldn't doing so seriously alter the space-time continuum or something? It obviously didn't, but what does minna-san think?

Well, for some reason, I always thought that in the Usagi-meets-Queen thing, it was a dream because it was a taboo. It was not allowed. But at the end of Stars when she wakes up, I feel that she woke up from a long night's sleep. You know, after the battle, she goes to sleep... :|

I think Usagi did meet Neo Queen Serenity. It would be rather stupid to have the whole arc lasted a year then at the end revealing it to be nothing but a dream...

The way ChibiUsa reacted to Usagi when Usagi woke up from her sleep crying, it implied that ChibiUsa knew what Usagi was experiencing/feeling. If it was just a dream Usagi had, ChibiUsa would have no way of knowing.

Theoretically the 2 people being so close would distort the space-time continuum but King Endymion explained before that the effect is gradual. SailorMoon and the Neo Queen only talked briefly, not long enough to cause a disturbance. Plus the Queen herself said so..."I'd love to see her...if only for a short while...even if time/history would change". (not sure about exact wording as I don't have my manga with me right now) At that point, both are too emotional to care about the consequences.

I just don't understand about getting emotional and wanting to see her in the first place. I don't understand her motivation for wanting to see her.

I wouldn't get moved to tears, but I can't blame her for being curious as to what her future self would be like. Hell, if I had the chance I'd take it too.

Maybe Sailormoon saw the NeoQueen as something of a mother figure since she's been through so much stuff already, except the Queen has been through all that and survived and knows how Moon is feeling. *laughs* Moon probably just wants the reassurance that she'll live through the whole mess of battles and stuff that happens in the future ("Yay! I'm alive!" is what those tears are for. Heh heh.)

As for taboos--um, hello? The Senshi break so many of them it's not even funny. As per the whole Black Moon arc and going to the future? Seeing how their lives will turn out to be? Seems pretty breaking-the-rules to me.

I don't think it was a dream, since the rest of the senshi were there as well with their future-selves (although not talking). And even though it would have been taboo, it's not like they hugged or the Neo-Queen told Sailor Moon anything incriminating ("the lottery numbers next week are.."). Plus, with Pluto gone, no one was there to smite them anyway.

As for the actual meeting between the two, remember that Neo-Queen Serenity was the one who ran off to meet Sailor Moon, not the other way around. I think Moon had a right to cry since her future-self disregarded Taboo and thanked her for saving the city. Besides, if space-time somehow imploded on itself it would have been the Queen's fault. :oh:

Hey, don't forget what seeing that future version of herself would mean to Usagi. Here she is--a young, frightened, less-than-perfect teenage girl who faces daily struggles with school and whose life is largely an endless cycle of facing one life-threatening battle after another. Then all of a sudden, she gets to see what she will someday become: a beautiful, graceful queen of a peaceful world, the wife to the very man she is in love with, the mother of a beautiful daughter, and a woman who is surrounded by her closest friends. I think that would bring tears to anyone's eyes--to see the person they will someday become, and discover that their future self is everything they've ever dreamed of and more.

eh, I don't know if I'd get emotional or not but I would get curious. The taboos don't really matter since they've disregarded them all the time, especially Pluto, and she got reincarnated all the time. About this dream stuff, I think that meeting was real. For the end of series when she woke up, I took it more as being refreshed from all that fighting rather than waking up from a dream.

I would be kind of curious to see my future self, but come on...wouldn't that ruin ANY suspense or surprise about what would happen in the future to you? Besides...I was always under the belief that meeting yourself from another time or dimension or such resulted in world going boom. You know, bad things in general. That's what anime and movies and shows like Farscape have taught me. I'd probably pass...I'd rather go into the future with an open mind and make my own future, not go along saying "ok, I know I'll get rich and marry this perfect guy, blah blah blah..." I'd prefer to make my own chocies and go a different route...I'd rather be poor and marry the guy I've been with for 4 years. Take your future with your own hands, blah blah, mumble mumble, yadda yadda.

Yeah...I'm going now. Just had to put in my two cents worth.

Yes, but the question isn't even about why we personally would want to see our future selves. It's about why Usagi would want to see her future self. Maybe to you guys it wouldn't even matter either way, but to Usagi it is really important.
