Well at least with got a date... that’s still means more than a year to wait. I don’t expect Blu-ray before February or March 2021...

Wow well it better be the most amazing quality product of any sailor moon movie for this long of a wait. But I don’t have much hope for this to be honest.

That's a little less than a year and more than enough time for them to work on it and get Part 2 sorted out partly. I was honestly expecting a June release but I'm still hopeful this will turn out awesome either way.

Lots of time to animate all of our Senshi correctly. Make-up!!

I wonder what the production schedule for this is like. Best case scenario, they entered the animation phase back in June or something to avoid making a potentially two hour long movie in less than a year. (And you really shouldn't make the movies shorter because the manga's story is condensed as it is, if you make it even shorter it'll feel like a recap.)

Good grieve... They better release these as episodes the day it hits their theaters like Digimon, this amount of wait is insane. And we still have no actual design, trailer, nor cast. Three years were not enough, they need four, so people outside probably won't see part 2 before 2022....

On the bright side we might be getting new artwork in the form of flyers this Friday, according to the site, but who knows whether they will publish it digitally. Very disappointing. I hope they won't release it outside of Japan theatrically - this will really drag the home video release for another year.

I think this is the flyer

(The other side is the original artwork of Takeuchi Naoko)

So I guess we will get a proper trailer next June 30th...since I am, as a Sailor Moon fan, used to waiting I am OK with this schedule. Maybe part 2 will be in japanese theaters in december. I don't think it would be wise to push the second part to 2021, since the movies are connected. I just really hope Toei will feed us from time to time with some new material, although I don't see that happen anymore this year (knowing Toei). But my hopes are high that they will produce a well made movie. Who knows, maybe Toei and Deen will pull all the strings to make this finally a great SM product that doesn't have to hide behind the quality of the 90s anime.

I mean, even if you don't like the new character design, the artwork by Tadano is flawless and the flyer has a certain quality and epicness. I feel like we might get this time a proper and original art direction.

Apparently production wrapped already (at least for Part 1):

If that is true, I guess they will release both parts in a very small frame, but considering we have no cast, no crew and they just announced Deen coproducing i doubt it. Maybe he/she refers to the statment they made that the script is completely done. Animation has probably just started by the looks of it.

A lot of people here don't know who aers is but he runs sakugabooru and I'm pretty sure he follows most of Toei's animators. The tweet implies that he's talking about the animation itself and not script.

Regardless, the release date probably has nothing to do with the stage of animation that the movies are in. Timing of the release matters more for a movie which hinges on the box office.

Also... The secrecy around the release (i.e. the lack of new promotional material) is nothing unusual. Toei previewed character designs for the new Digimon movie two years ago, and it's only now getting a release in February of 2020...The trailer appearing roughly nine months before its release. With that in mind, we'll probably get a trailer for Eternal around January 2020.

I hope you are right. Because if they just started working on it, the animation would be as rushed as always. Otherwise it will really take ages. We probably wont see it will 2021, and 8f they release it in the us theatrically, it will take ages for the home release. So it is like 2 years away from Europe fans no matter what. So I bet we won't see any trailer till the anniversary franchise in February :(

if he’s talking about the animation then the script for sure has to have been finished, right? You can’t animate without a script.

Well I can say this: at least English speaking can finally get the second part of Sailor Stars next month and they can also look forward to copies of Eternal edition of the manga coming out. I really hope the English dub of the movie comes in 2021.

Correct, but that's not technically the point. We are trying to figure out if the film has completed production (as in whether the animation itself has been finished)... And aers' tweet implies that it has.

I'm just glad we got a finally, even though I was expecting a Summer release around June but oh well. We should hopefully get a trailer or at least more characters design's at the beginning of next year
