I personally don’t see how it’s as bad as some are saying it is. Is it the same as the Super S transformation? Yes. But it’s not like they haven’t done that throughout the rest of Crystal. I’m still excited.
I think you're kind of missing the point about the complaints. The fact that it's the same is one thing, the fact that it's the same but WORSE than the original is why people are angry (and the anger seems to be pretty unanimous this time).

Like some people were bummed that Uranus and Neptune's transformation in Crystal Season 3 was the same as the '90s anime, but I don't recall people being this angry because the animation wasn't choppy (because why WOULD it be when you're copying something that was already done and looked fine???).

And not just the choppy animation. Why does Usagi's hair look off when it was fine in the original? Why do the compacts look like stickers? Why is the sound effects worse than the original?

That’s why I said that I, personally, don’t see that it’s as bad as some are saying it is. It’s just my opinion among many. If you want to be upset about it, that is totally fine. I respect that. I’m not going to go back and forth and try to prove why I feel that it’s okay. Is it perfect? No. Is it anything like the mess that Berserk’s choppy animation had? Nope. Everyone feels differently.

No one is asking for you to change the way you feel. But when you start by saying "I personally don’t see how it’s as bad as some are saying it is" when there's been two pages with people explaining what they find wrong with it, you're gonna get a response. It's a forum.

Maybe I'm optimistic, but this came from last year.I hope transformation are more original. We still might get an Usagi, and Mamorutransformation. Yez I am sick of the copy-paste, and I hope we get real-time attacks.

Apart from what we have already said.
Do you guys have stopped for a minute and thought that this is the best scenes of the movie in terms of animation? The transformation is normally like the ecstasy moment. I expect the rest of the movie to be similar to season I.

well when crystal was released i was supporting this franchise i know it have flaws and i like it, i was defending it from some people saying bad things about it and well that the 90s anime didn't have the top quality too
but this, this... i feel disappoint and i don't have all the excitement like the pv seasons
and i know some people didn't like season 1 and 2 but i feel like they make better transformations than this
even the copy and paste of uranus and neptune transformation in season 3 look better than this... is sad
and was for tv not a movie =(

You’re giving Toei way too much credit here. Movie 1 was likely finished or near-finished last year
And you guys are too busy treating Toei as a single entity to realize that the actual production crew wouldn't have wanted it to look like this.

I'm just so sick of this fandom talking about animators like they're pieces of trash. They already work in borderline-sweatshop conditions to pump stuff out in as little time as possible and this pandemic has only made it worse.

(And If it was so close to being finished last year they wouldn't have given it a September release date.)

^ This is true. We should never really blame the animation crew, TBH. If the product looks poor it's because of poor scheduling/management which is almost always an issue coming from the top. Hindsight's 20/20, but the writing was on the wall for the two movies being most likely handled poorly considering it was announced ages ago.
But in terms of the movie's completion. The release date has no bearing on when the animation was completed. Crystal Season 3's episodes were also completed a while before airing and I recall a tweet from the guy who runs sakugabooru (who's a pretty reliable source) that the animators on Eternal have confirmed their work was completed on Part 1 in 2019.

Positive points (or are they?) :

1/ The movies are pushed back to 6 months. It's more than enough to redraw all transformation scenes lol... Would they do it? Well if TOEI is reading the comments YEAH. Will they give money for it? hmmm it's TOEI that we're speaking about… so the chances are very low !

2/ the second part of the movie should push them to put more original contents for transformations and attacks… but once again will the second part comes ? well it should are the movie seems to be produced together as a whole… right ? if the second movie date is pushed to 2022 it means for sure that it will never comes.

3/ If the plot stick to the manga at least the story will be enjoyable… but with this 2 movies' format I seriously doubt that it would be the case!

(I still cannot believe i have to see a redraw copy/paste of the transformation sequence I HATE in the old anime - the only one i really don't like... Sailor Moon becoming a puppet to ChibiMoon not being able anymore to transform alone...)

It's amusing how Naoko expects foreign countries to release the manga exactly like she wants and even messes with the old anime licensing if she gets upset about something, but lets Toei do whatever crap they want with this reboot.
Sorry, I liked the sympathetic, sweet mangaka Naoko from the 90s.
The businesswoman Naoko we have now is just... Oh, forget It.

I really caution anyone who is expecting the six month delay to have any bearing on whether the animation will improve. Eternal's delay most likely has to do with theaters being impacted by COVID, not the production (at least not where Part 1 is concerned).

It just reminds me of how people thought the 2-3 week gap between episodes of Crystal Season 1-2 were so that Toei can make each episode look AMAZING and... well... we know how that turned out.

The only thing that could save te whole thing is if they go and polosh it a bit now that people are vocal about it and they have time to do it. And if they have individual original transformations and only did this as homag for the first time Sailor Moon and Chibo Moon fight the tiger. It is a possibility. But I don't find it very likely.

True, true. The 2-3 week gap isn't enough to make significant changes to an episode, but six months is definitely enough to polish up a movie. I guess it depends on the upper management, and how far along part 2 is.

I think I'm just gonna go into the movie hoping that they at least do justice in adapting the Dream arc (which is my favorite part of the manga). I don't think that's unreasonable since they hired a new screenwriter who has experience.

I rewatched the Crisis transformation and while it's mediocre, it's not AWFUL. It's just disappointing really, but honestly, I'm kind of glad they showed it now because it's going to help me adjust my expectations for the movie.

I completely agree with you. I hope the arc is adapted properly, we are used to not very good animation for this reboot. It is watchable, just lazy. I hope the script is not as lazy. So we have two teasers now. And just two original frames from the films...

I was never expecting anything super amazing, I was figuring on TV quality. If they really did spend 5 years on the animation then yeah it would've been incredible, but realistically there's just no way it would have that kind of a budget, this isn't a Marvel movie.

It is a bit disappointing but not enough to not want to watch the movie. For me, at least.

Just mainly hoping they give Chibi Moon her kaleidoscope too, it was kinda lame that in SuperS she never attacked, only ever summoned Pegasus, meanwhile in the manga she was doing moon gorgeous meditation too.

I liked that in S they made her a bit on the pathetic side because I liked the idea of her needing to learn how to be a proper guardian, and she was super young so it made sense. Then in SuperS all she did was ring a bell and then was all "yay I'm a full fledged guardian now" which left me like "are you though?" Lol. If they had her doing moon gorgeous meditation in SuperS like she was supposed to, then it would've actually felt like she did train up. Meanwhile in the manga she was an effective attacker, so they really did her a disservice in the 90s anime.

So while I would be perfectly fine if they use the moon gorgeous meditation animation from the 90s (it was by far the coolest sequence in the 90s anime, just got a bad rap because we always had to sit through Twinkle Yell first which was boring af), I really want them to throw Chibi Moon in there doing it too.

So yeah tldr; fine with them reusing sequences from the 90s, but please let Chibi Moon actually attack and not just ringing a bell.

Although when it comes to the eventual Stars arc, oh god please don't reuse anything. I was literally hitting fast forward because the sequences were so bad. Long as all hell and boring.

We already saw Chibi's kaleidoscope, didn't we?

Yes in the teaser. Also by watching it frame by frame I spotted beautiful frakes as well, so there might still be some glimpses of gorgeousness here and there. I just want to see something original at this point. All they show has been retraced.
