Season 4 movies update: Sailor Moon Eternal - Delayed to 2021 (Part 1 on January 8th & Part 2 on February 11th)

There were vague news about a new “Sailor Moon” anime in 2013, yes, but from the very beginning it was established that it would be an adaptation from the manga.

Although I remember that I really wished Crystal to not be a 1:1 adaptation, that was always the biggest possibility.

The mere fact that Crystal episodes were ONAs already proved that they weren't trying to attract new fans.

If Toei tries to attract new fans, they would create a new season of around 50 episodes (like Digimon Adventure 2020).

That’s not what slideshow or powerpoint animation refers to. It’s referring to static images with minimum effects (panning, zooming, or just lip flaps with nothing else moving etc.). There’s usually NO real movement because that’s the opposite of what a slideshow actually is, which is just static images that make up a presentation.

Stiff animation is just stiff animation.

Well, I was exaggerating anyway.
I want this movie to look good as much as everyone. Just to clarify. I used to be a Crystal basher, but those days are gone.

Oh you think he is lol ? Which part ? When he claimed that Naoko hates TOEI ? Based on what ? That she said one time in interview that she didn’t like the fact that Starlights were boys in the anime ? The fact is, like you said, that no one know anything about Sailor Moon copyrights. It’s only based since years on speculation from different comments from company regarding the acquisition of SM’s rights or their renewals. No one knows till which limit Takeuchi has right or TOEI.

The part where he claimed that Crystal was supposed to be a sequel to the original anime is also pure speculation. Lol based on sources from two american websites who didn’t translate correctly what was saying the actress and the producer during the first interview.. basically one article even correct themself in an update just after

What I’m sure is that Takeuchi said many times that the Sailor Moon chapter is over and that she will neither produce/ an original SEQUEL story to it. She likes how she end the story and I think as well that she did close it perfectly... maybe she will change her mind someday but after 30 years I certainly doubt it.

9am kick off with fewer trains means I need to be out the door at 07:45 as the movie theatre is in a large shopping centre and the train station is completely the opposite side and I'm assuming not all the doors will be open at that time...fun...

Being honest... I have read lots of things today that I had never heard before lol

Like a 90's anime continuation was really in the table... really? I always heard when the Crystal project started back in 2012-2013 is that it would be a faithful adaptation of the manga, nothing of the 90's anime.

And yes, no one here can talk about the agreement that Naoko has with Toei, PNP and Bandai. We basically know that they always work together ( along with Kodansha ) for whatever legal agreements they must have.

And yes, Naoko is known that is hard to work with. In Spain the editor of Norma Editorial ( the publisher who edited the last manga edition and now got the approval to release the Eternal Edition ) said in an interview basically that she was a pain in the ass to work with. That she is very strict and focus on stupid and non important things and the smallest detail when it comes to give approval licenses for international market. Same thing said Selecta Visión ( the video distributor that got the rights to release the dvd/blurays of the 90s series ) altough this is a long story and we dont know exactly whose fault was to not get an agreement. But yes... it has always been said around ( not by fans but by companies and licensors ) that Naoko is hard to work with and get approvals.

She seems to be not that much strict tough when it comes to Japanese companies releasing SM products seeing what Bandai does with lots of the merchandise they release with really bad quality and a total lack of factory quality control lol.

Same with Crystal first seasons... I know she was not a supervisor of the project ( as she is now with Eternal ) but we all can tell by how the series turned at the end with all the delays and the poor quality of it that Toei didnt really treated it well.

Crystal is a project that sounded amazing at the beggining ( I dont want a remake of the 90's or a continuation of it, the story is closed and I want it to be left that way in the past, i dont want Toei butchering it anymore ). Having a modern adaptation for an adult audience of the manga story? OH YES. Thats the only thing I wanted for Sailor Moon. And well... Its ok if you like it of course, we all have our tastes, but I think we all can agree that Crystal is not a good product and was not treated the way it should had been treated by Toei.

It has totally been a lost chance to do an overall good product.

my only complant is that chibiusa still seems tiny in anime, when in the original artwork by dreams she is way taller already. she literally only goes to usagis waist, and usagi is only about 1.5m so she is probably less than 1.10 or so. i am taller than usagi ( 165cm) and kid is at my shoulders at 8yo

I mean... if the movie numbers are awful, wouldnt they consider it to not adapt Stars as a movie as well? If no one goes to the cinema to watch them... LOL. Let's see the numbers Part 2 makes but Im afraid that seeing this Toei could go back to make a tv series as season 3 which would be sad cause obviously animation quality would go down again after Eternal :/

I wouldn’t mind Stars as a TV series as long as they keep Tandano as character designer. The movie suffers from a lot of pacing issues and a 1:1 adaptation which will be even more apparent in Stars as there are lots of things in the manga that NEED to be expanded upon to make sense. That being said they seem to not be able to go outside the confines of the strict adaptation, so..
