Season 4 movies update: Sailor Moon Eternal - Delayed to 2021 (Part 1 on January 8th & Part 2 on February 11th)

Musicals kept going even after the series ended. I think Naoko just wants control over her series in all aspects and that's it and since some said she brought it, it's her right. Though it does seem like she wants to just milk the anime/manga without worrying about doing anything new... but it is her series now.

Musicals are popular over here in America but they have to have good dramatic storytelling and beyond. Sailor Moon meets Broadway type of thing could work maybe for kids. I mean even shows like Seasme Street have musicals that are popular..

Heck, look at Harry Potter... lol

It's strange because we know that, according to the producers of the Nelke musicals, Naoko told them they could do whatever they wanted. Maybe Naoko's just controlling when it comes to the manga and anime, but has such a soft spot for the musicals she lets them have total creative freedom? (Not that they've really capitalized on that, but still.)

Or maybe she isn't that affectionate to the manga story as we think and the 1:1 adaptation was a cheap solution Toei chose themselves?
We know she's controlling, but we have absolutely no source on she asking for a semi-literal adaptation, do we?

I think there have been US musicals of Sailor Moon.

The Amour Eternal cast put on a mini performance at Anime Matsuri, LMF screened in select theaters, and The Super Live had some performances in New York and DC, but otherwise there have been no Sailor Moon musicals stateside. There was some kind of live show that starred Samantha Bee, but I think that was just in Canada, and information on it is virtually nonexistent.

Pretty sure all the straight male Japanese fans moved onto Precure a long time ago. Although I do miss the camp and humor from the 90’s anime one thing I do -not- miss is the sexualisation. While I respect Kuniko Ikuhara as a director and appreciate his work on the series there’s no denying it took a racier tone under his direction. The Daimon’s were really something for a kids anime. They are just monsters, though, and some of them were pretty cool design-wise so I give it a pass. However, the stuff in SuperS with the naked Chibi Usa? Barf.
