My problem was not the fact she is old for the part, but the fact it was unfair to the other voice actors. Most shows either keep the entier cast or a completely new one for a reboot.
Yeah, I think it's pretty scummy Toei Animation got Kotono Mitsuishi back to reprise her role as the main character but didn't even bother to bring back any of the other original voice actors, like they wanted to have a whole new cast with the new (mostly joke) versions of the Sailors, but also just bring back Kotono as Usagi/Sailor Moon solely for extra brownie points and nostalgia. I can understand not having Chiyoko Kawashima reprise her roles as Shingo, Haruna-sensei and Setsuna/Sailor Pluto because she retired 19 years ago and now is 65 years old, nor Katsuji Mori returning as Nephrite as he was in his late 60s-early 70’s, nor Kazuyuki Sogabe as Kunzite since he passed away in 2006, nor having Kaneto Shiozawa return as Prince Diamond as he sadly died in 2000, nor Eiji Maruyama as Wiseman as he was 85 years old and sadly died a few months after the second season of Crystal ended, but seriously? Toei Animation couldn't bring back Aya Hisakawa (Mercury), Michie Tomizawa (Mars), Emi Shinohara (Jupiter), Rica Fukami (Venus), Keiko Han (Luna), Yasuhiro Takato (Artemis), Kae Araki (Chibi Moon), Megumi Ogata (Uranus), Masako Katsuki (Neptune), Yūko Minaguchi (Saturn), Shino Kakinuma (Naru), Keiichi Nanba (Umino), and Toru Furuya (Mamoru/Tuxedo Mask)? Or couldn't they have gotten the PGSM cast to return? But nope, we instead had to have Cure Peace/Hisako Kanemoto as Crystal's Ami/Sailor Mercury, Ami Kochimizu/Cure Melody as Crystal's Makoto/Sailor Jupiter and Misato Fukuen/Cure Happy as Crystal's Chibi-Usa/Sailor Chibi Moon, probably only for the reason because "They're big names Pretty Cure voice actresses and Pretty Cure is our most popular current magical girl franchise!!" despite how miscasted those three sounded, especially with Jupiter, only Ai Maeda/Cure Aqua sounded perfectly cast as Sailor Pluto in Crystal, Misato's Chibi Moon sounded grating and more like an adult woman trying to sound like a little kid than an actual little kid, Kochimizu's voice just didn't fit Jupiter and though it's hard to explain, Jupiter's character and her voice just don't mix together. And now that I look back on it, while Hisako Kanemoto is a good actress, was not a really good choice for the role of Sailor Mercury/Ami, I thought she was too young to capture the vocal tone of Ami and unfortunately her acting here feels really bland, she doesn't feel like she has the appropriate vocal reaction to stuff like fighting in battle and when shouting out some attack phrases and such, the tone in her voice didn't really match with the emotion that was trying to be conveyed.
