Yeah another (more or less) direct manga adaptation would be a shot in the foot. Why would they even attempt that in lets say ten years when Crystal wont be even that old? Would Naoko even want that again?

I think a whole new take on the story or a continuation are the only options that even make any sense.
I also wouldnt look at Stars being a good example. Stars is messy because it was supposed to be the end and its clear that neither Naoko nor Toei were really prepared for the story to end (even if in both cases the actual end is pretty good).
As far as we know as long as SM is relevant...anything can happen. Naoko can do or greenlight (and help with) a sequel. Toei and Naoko can come up with a whole new retelling etc. There's no way to know. But another faithful anime adaption would be....unheard of as far as i know at least

We don't need new source material. Look at books like Dracula, A Christmas Carol, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland - they've all been adapted hundreds of times each. Sure, many of those adaptations are bad, but many of them are entertaining, even when they largely hit on the same plot points. Sailor Moon, comprising five arcs, arguably has five times the material to work with as Dracula has (more if you count Sailor V and the side stories). So we don't need Naoko (or even anyone else for that matter) to pen any sequel, prequel, or interquel manga arcs or side stories to mine for material. Even though the Dark Kingdom arc, for instance, has been adapted over a dozen times, as I've pointed out it still has a ton of story elements that have yet to be explored. The possibilities for re-adapting the manga are endless; all that's needed is for such adaptations to be helmed by creative, talented people who are deeply familiar with the material, are passionate about it, and are in touch with the fandom. I certainly don't want to wait 25 years for another take on SM, and I sure as hell don't want a Crystal 2.0, but I don't think the material should be laid to rest just yet.

I am the 90s fan as well. I agree, I want to see some essentially new or a vastly different adaptation that subvert expectations. I do not see a path for a sequel. Manga Sailor Moon faced the source of whole evil. Crystal is adaptation of the manga and I agree we need something different if they ever do a new anime. Crystal though is not the best adaptation of the manga, while the 90s anime is exactly the same as you viewed it decades ago. A manga adaptation is usually the route. Once it is over - they should do something new. 90s anime remake/continuation is not something new. Honestly I am tired of the Dark Kingdom as well... Can we have at least a mix. Like make it versus Nehelenia and shake it a bit. And Saka adatations had many other issues, Comedy not being there is not copletely true, it was badly shoe-horned.Pre Cure is esentially a parallel 90s Sailor Moon each season. There are tons of ways to adapt a story and change it. Just give different perspective. Make an entier episode from QueenBeryl's point of view. Give her more of motivation. Show the live on other planets. Explore Elysion.. It can go on so many directions.
I feel like the dark kingdom arc hasn't really been told a lot as much. The only one more adaption was PGSM.The rest of the arcs had been told the same.I will be up for a new station of the manga taking liberties in the future.

Dark Kingdom has been re-told to death - several musicals, the novelizatiion... Everybody is a bit tired of it and I agree to that.

Those aren't the best examples since Dracula and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland all have done radical takes to the source material where characters, major plot points, and even endings are completely different that it essentially becomes a different work.

Again, I'm not saying it has to be a sequel. But like do something completely different with the story even if it's the Five Senshi and the Dark Kingdom characters all over again. Update their personalities for modern sensibilities (no on should care anymore that Makoto isn't feminine, for example). Have a twist ending where Naru is the main antagonist all a long. Take actual RISKS. But follow the same outline but just change the dialogue and scene perspectives a bit? No thanks! The manga had it's chance and it's over.

^ But that's what I'm saying. They can still take the same characters and same basic plot (i.e. the Sailor Team awakens and does battle against their past life foes, the Dark Kingdom) but do radically different things with them. I would welcome original stories, don't get me wrong; I'm just saying that we don't need fresh material to, well, get fresh material.

For example: 2026 will be the 60th anniversary of the first ever magical girl anime series, Sally the Witch. What a wonderful opportunity for Toei to celebrate that series and the genre itself by doing '60s retro versions of their flagship magical girl series (Sailor Moon, PreCure, DoReMi, etc). Not only would the somewhat simple and wonky art style of '60s anime be far more forgiving of Toei's current quality, but setting a Sailor Moon adaptation (be it a series or a film, a DK adaptation or an original story) in a different era would allow for a lot of creative changes on both an aesthetic and a story-telling level. It would be fresh and fun and I'm sure Naoko would approve. #GroovyGuardianSailorMoon

Totally agree, @MementoNepenthe but that's not the kind of adaptation I think @Crystal Moon was arguing for (they wanted movies that simplified the manga's dialogue and adapted the best panels from the manga) and what I had an issue with.

I would, for one, love a new Sailor Moon adaptation that didn't have to go through the whole charade of pretending no one knows who the Moon Princess is.

I’d also love to see a continuation, but I feel the Stars manga ending is already pretty definite.. and I agree that there’s very little chance Naoko would write a follow up.

I wouldn’t mind a Crystal take on the Snow Kaguya arc though. That could easily be molded into a story that takes place after the Stars arc. Really, they just need to change the fukus.

I also wouldn’t mind a series of Crystal specials based on the Entrance Exams or Short Stories.

Outer Space
The Dark Kingdom has been told but it hasn't been told from others point of view. I'd for one like to know more about Uranus and the others during the Dark Kingdom or any other battles they had protecting the outer Solar System. Even if they are 4 episode OVAs.

If they were to do Dark Kingdom again, they could just go to that time period. Honestly, we don't even need that. I wouldn't mind a continuation because let's be honest here, there are tons of Sailor Soldiers out there. I'd love to see them take Sailor Moon to some of those places. I know this ideas isn't to popular but I've always wanted to see more of the Sailor Wars or in fact a new Sailor War saga during the 30th century, almost tournament style.

However, I'm willing to wait as it's been over 20 something years and we just are getting somewhat proper adaptations of the manga.

I've grown attached to the original Saikor Tram but they can't be girls forever. Eventually they will become women and their powers will pass on to their children.

Though I wonder if Mars would have kids? She could be the spirit guide for the new Senshi and allow them to train at the temple.

Mako could also give martial arts lessons every so often.

It would be nice to see them function as grown women though and provide physical and mental support to the new girls.

Same for the outers. They aren't that much older than the Inners.

Chi-Usa will be our new Sailor Moon and I'm guessing Helios (or maybe Hotaru) will be her love interests.

I mean the musicals have made a whole lot of stuff that gone way off from the manga.

I also don't want another anime that retells the manga again the way that Crystal did. I don't need Naoko to create more content, because the story found its conclusion and I also don't want a 6th season for the 90s anime, because that project is finished. I want something creative and original, based on the entire Sailor Moon saga. An anime series, that connects all the arcs, fills plot holes, tells the stories from different angles and perspectives. There are SO many possibilities! There could be an episode where Chibiusa goes on a quest and timetravels to different events that happened in the 5 seasons of Sailor Moon, and she has to avoid being seen by the girls. Or an episode that shows us the destruction of the silver Millennium from the outer senshi perspective. Or something like Sailor Moon: Another Story, where the characters are placed in new constellations and relations. And there is still Casablanca Memory and other sidestories.

Gotcha. Yeah, definitely don't want that either. The only other direct "adaptation" of the manga I'm in the market for is a colorized re-release, that's it.

I would, for one, love a new Sailor Moon adaptation that didn't have to go through the whole charade of pretending no one knows who the Moon Princess is.
They should seriously consider reviving the Toon Maker concept. Like, sure, the materials from the POC were low-quality, but that doesn't mean the concept of a live action-animation hybrid series where the girls are multicultural, fight in space, and the plot is basically Stars but with Beryl and her original character henchman/sidekick Ursus in the Galaxia and Anima Mates roles was a bad one. No tedious Moon Princess mystery noise, we get the Outers in season one, even Queen Serenity gets to be alive!

Honestly though, let's just wait ten years. By then Disney will surely have acquired Toei in their neverending quest to be the only media company in the world, and I'm sure they'll give us more Sailor Moon content than we'd ever want

Why not just do side stories that take place at different points throughout the series? Either that or stuff that can create/expand the lore, like a mini arc showing the Silver Millennium and it's downfall in greater detail or something.

can‘t help but this looks still better for my eyes. it‘s dynamic and the background looks great. i never liked that pseudo3D floor in crystal
Trust me if you see it in HD everything wrong with will be in your face. While watching the films on blu ray as they are the only true hd we have I realised how much the old shw benefits as not being hd

We are talking about two different things. Of course this material hasn't been made for HD replay and I'm not talking about the lines, which proobably look sloppy in HD because the pencil, or however you call the tool to make the lines, has a certain diameter and was not accurate enough. I'm talking about the frame composition. The slightly tilted floor with the perspective lines creates dynamic, Sailor Moon stands there and you can see the gravity. In Crystal the 3D floor made the handdrawn elements look super flat.

Crystal might look crispier and cleaner on a HDTV, but I miss the talent and knowledge in animation that 90s SM received. 90s SM might have some errors which are more visible on a HDTV, but frame composition is always top.

Sailor Moon says: "Using wonderful playback software with beautifully tuned upscaling is really important!"
I run with MPC-BE (with various settings and stuff bolted on which escape me right now) output via HDMI to my 4K TV and most of the time I get good-enough results. With VLC (usually my go to video player) I have not been so lucky.

You cannot have a proper hd from a dvd no matter what gear you are using. It is simply impossible. The only HD we have are the films. Sadly. Upscales are just that. Toei claim they have no materials for the show to be restaured.
