Compilation films are pretty common in anime, so this might be a bit more of a forward thinking concept if Crystal has been somewhat struggling with sales (which everything seems to indicate that it has).
That indicates that they are actually producing content that can be either edited as episodes or movies. Well, who knows...I still prefer a more original and creative approach of the manga material.

They could make compilation movies of the first 3 seasons, too.

what‘s the point in making 2 movies then?
Films make more money. There absolutely no other point. Especially to adapt manga with the structure of Sailor Moon. I am against too much changes to the point of skipping g all the inners development once again over Usagi and Chibi Usa. With Crystal they promised faithful adaptation. So far so they kibd of did it. Most people waited specifically for this arc (some for Stars). This is most likely the only manga adaptation we are getting, hence the only chance to see it animated.

We‘ll know everything (the japanese audience, actually) in 4 months. Wow, it‘s actually soon. And we can expect a proper trailer and more details in 1,5 months.
If they don't lift the Tokyo state of emergency I cannot see the release happening. I hope we get something for Usagi's birthday but the usual even is most likely out of the question. All we have is hope for both economy and Sailor Moon.

As much as I hope the movie will come out, I think it'll be pretty much a miracle if it doesn't get delayed.
Mind you, I would be waiting for the dub anyway, so I personally have a long wait regardless lol.

I don't think they'll cancell it all, but they may delay it if the situation with Coronavirus don't get better enough soon enough. Unless they decide to release directly on digital , which I doubt
How many theatrical screenings do you guys expect for Japan? Roadshow means a couple of screenings in selected cinemas, right? Do you think they will release it shortly after worldwide digitally like they did it with Crystal 1+2?

Nobody knows at this point. Some studios are releasing their films digitally. I spotted recently an upcoming anime film will be released on Netflix Japan instead. Knowing Toei though I higly doubt it will be releast straight to digital platforms. Most anime films are released on bli ray at least 4-5 months after the theater release. Some big performse like Weathering with You and Your Name a whole year after. If by Roadshow they mean limited screening and it is not followed by wider screenings, it might take 4 months roughly. Digimon Tri was split and released pretty fast on Crunchy roll but I do not know the reason for this decision and I do not know about other such cases.

I don't think it'll be cancelled either but I just tend to have a habit of always prepare for the the worst. Even without a virus going on I always half expect a cancellation of something (whether it's a movie or a game or a book whatever) until it's actually released. It's just my mindset unfortunately xD Apologies if I came off as rumor mongering.

It is a bit exxaggerated. They are working on both films and we already have trailer, tons of merch, trailer, key visual.

Yes, for sure. Apologies again. I realize that someone may misunderstand and might think I heard news or something and it may get passed on etc. I'll be more mindful from now on! :)
My point was more there's a possiblity it'll get delayed because of the virus but here's hoping it won't. Goodness knows we've waited long enough lol.

Now it‘s you who exaggerated ;-)

we have 2 key visuals, 2 short teasers, a hand full of announced merch. that‘s it.
When did Toei show trailers and merch, without beijg further innproduction? We have voice actors, hired, animators, a whole other studio working on it. Toei would never reveal as much if they can cancel a project. Crystal had multiple delays in 2013-14 and the only time we get key visual was the moment they were sure they are ready for it. The only time Toei revealed a trailer abd the film was cancelled it was for a Rose of Versailles film. A film that wasn't a sequel to their own series. They showed a trailer without cast being announced. The movie never had a merch announced with it. Eternal will be released as at this point they pretty much wrapped works on part 1. It might be delayed, but talking about cancellation is exaggeration.

Sorry guys. I didn't mean to derail the thread. It's just sort of a mindset I have, I should've kept that thought to myself.

I tend to just always half expect cancellations to protect myself from disappointment if such a thing happens, I didn't really mean to seriously suggest it. I was sorta thinking out loud so to speak.

Please forget I said it. I'll go edit my other post and delete that part.

Oh I see!
Phew sorry. Worried I was being a troublemaker lol, but you were just being super sweet was all. Thanks. :) Hopefully we'll all get to watch it sooner rather than later. ♡
We all care about Sailor Moon and we are all super emotional about it and at times we start to speculate. Truth is we are all adults (I assume) and we are all so passionate over something so pure and innocent and it is precious. We are all fans and we can state our opinion.

Although Digimon Tri were movies, it has a limited broadcast. Each film was broadcast in less than 20 cinemas and its run would originally only be three weeks (although each film gain more weeks).

So, the box office wasn't the most important for Digimon Tri. The merchandise sales were likely the most important.

We don't know what kind of broadcast is planned for Sailor Moon Crystal movies. However, if it is similar to Digimon Tri, Toei may find it more convenient/profitable that Sailor Moon Crystal Movies goes direct to digital than delay.
