Well... this sux. I know I shouldn't be surprised but the Sailor Moon franchise has been given a very poor hand as it is by Toei.
This has nothing to do with Eternal being treated poorly though or do you think Toei PLANNED the pandemic?

Like y'all realize Eternal isn't the only film being affected, right?

I think HeartWarrior meant that Sailor Moon has already been handled very poorly by Toei, and now on top of that, the pandemic is affecting it, too. Obviously it's affecting everything and so this delay was inevitable, but it's made all the more frustrating by the fact that, had Toei handled this reboot properly from the start, they'd already have been done with the entire series by now.

Well, of course we cannot blame them for the pandemic, but these films should have been last year, as tgey were announced ages ago. It should have been Stara beying delayed. Plus they should have known in April there is no way they will be ready in time. While they kept advertising this date so heavily giving people false hope they are sure and the production is almost wrapped uped. Needing 4 more months is quite a big stretch. If the reason is part 2 production being behind is understandable, but they could have announced it for February and nobody would have been angry. I mean having the two parts one month apart is something quite unexpected. It is good decosion. What worries me is nobody knows if another lock down might happen in winter months as some people expect.

Almost every single movie that got delayed because of COVID, it was announced at least a month or two before its release. A delay is devastating for Toei especially when it's obvious that the movie is close to completion. Like they're not trying to give people false hope, they, like all of us, are trying to make the best of a terrible situation (and let's be real, some of you would have been melting down if this was announced months ago anyway.)

Like we're talking about a company where people's livelihoods are at stake because of a pandemic delaying everything. A little maturity should be expected, but I know it's a lot to ask from this forum.

The good thing is that people don't have to wait for months before waching part 2. Maybe they will release it as a combo DVD shortly after the theatrical premiere.
I'm not shocked hearing the news, as I expected it would happen sooner or later. The coronavirus has affected everyone, myself included. Having your favorite movie delayed is nothing, compared to people losing their jobs and their lives.

Thank you. This is exactly what I was trying to say.

But movies are being released now in Japan and it has nothing to do with Current reatrictions. Everything got delayed true but none of these were announced 5 years ago ( It took them one of these years between the announcment of chara designer and showing unfinished concept art, what happened all this time. When did they even started working on this films?) ... This is why people get so frustrated. I hope they release it soon after and not usual six months after a release. This would mean they are a whole year from now. But who knows they might decide it is perfect to release it on blu ray for the next Uagi's birthday. And still this pandemic won't go anywhere soon, so a summer release even with 1/3 of the possible seats my feel like a dream next winter...

I'm not sad about this at all. New year, new start. Then we get one movie after the next. Hopefully these films (we don't know if they will be simulcast) can be cut into "episodes" or however they choose and a few months or so afterwards distributed to fans worldwide through their platform of choice.

This will also give Eternal more room to earn money with everyone not so focused on the pandemic. Hopefully and possibly leading into the announcement of the Stars film in 2021/2022 or whenever.

This gives them more than enough time to fix any "errors" between the two Dream movies.

As far as the poor hand, it's all about the money. Toei still owns part of Sailor Moon so I doubt they are going to be too poor with it as long as there is money to be made. Perhaps, unknown to us, there were complications such as budget and time constraints, which caused things to get messy. From a biz standpoint, things can get messy at any time from the slightest thing.

In any case, I'm still excited because I know there is a movie (two) that are made and are waiting to be released in due time.

I should mention that it is never mentioned the delay of Eternals is due to COVID. This was directly mentioned as the reason in the previous delay Digimon Adventure:, Kiramager, Kamen Rider Zero-One, and Healin' Good Pretty Cure.

Also, these TV series and anime are returning in July (and others like Pokemon have already returned). So, it seems Japan has the pandemic more controlled.

I think Digimon Adventure Kizuna is being released straight to DVD/Bluray internationally because all of the COVID delays. The same might happen to Eternal's release outside of Japan.
It is also possible the Eternal films are like Digimon Adventure Tri. So, we will see these films in Crunchyroll the same day these are released in cinemsd.

It is mentioned on the official site. The reason is COVID. Wasn't Digimon released on crunchy a month after the release though, while part 1 was sold on blu ray on the date of release in Japan?

Well, they mention the covid directly on the official site.
For those who don't know, Japan and China have the second wave of coronavirus, after the restriction is lifted.

Thank you fot the clarification about the official site saying the delay is due to the COVID.

No. Each film of Digimon Adventure Tri was released on crunchy the same day that the film was released on cinemas.

However, each movie of Tri (and Kizuna) has a pre‐premiere one month before, but it was show only once (in one cinema). It is possible Eternal will have a pre-premiere in December too.

I was so looking forward to watching the Eternal movies this year, but it's understandable why they have to be delayed until next year because of what is happening in the world right now.

Crystal got handled badly. We all know this. Alright, we waited 5 years. Toei didn’t make Crystal a priority. So? What does that have to do with this delay? So what if they handled the timeline of making the movies badly? It’s a pandemic. Not everything is about Crystal this, Crystal that. Crystal was the first subbed anime I ever watched, so it holds a special place in my heart, but even I can handle a few more months than expected. Look on the bright side: we have a date for the second movie! The Sailor Moon fandom likes to fixate on the negatives.

To be fair, no one else on Twitter or social media are having any tantrums over this and are pretty understanding considering the situation. It's just this forum as usual lol
