Crystal's biggest problem has always been it's pacing, and shafting characters who aren't Usagi, Chibiusa, and Mamoru. It's the same problem the manga had -- the characters are reason people remember Sailor Moon to this day and Crystal doesn't respect that by trying to fix the manga's flaws when they had the perfect opportunity.

The first two seasons made it even worse by watering down all humor and making the characters less expressive because apparently showing too much emotion is ~unelegant~. That was yet another thing that spat in the face of what made Sailor Moon popular, the fact that these were normal teenage girls that readers and viewers could relate to.

It's not about it being different from the 90's anime, because if it was the musicals wouldn't be so popular. Implying the fans in SM's native country are somehow ignorant or 90's anime purists for not liking Crystal and saying that their comments on Eternal won't mean anything is messed up tbh.
The last paragraph explained why I quickly grew to detest the Crystal fanboys/fangirls, and the first two the problems I had with Crystal (not to mention the Inners' pathetic battle performance in Crystal), it's the same thing as the manga, a shot by shot adaptation but done so badly it may as well not even exist.

But I think I know what might be implied by the "comments might not mean anything", big companies normally are not your friends and only care about profit.

It looks like the Moon Cats they pulled from the settei (character reference sheets), so I assume Luna was supposed to have red eyes until Naoko intervened.

And while I totally get things will change midway production, this is exactly why they shouldn't be using settei to promote theatrical films because it's completely sloppy. What exactly is going on in the marketing department at Toei? There's more fan art that looks like official material vs. how many images they've produced for this movie... It's kind of embarrassing.

@SailorSpySedna I love Crystal and that means acknowledging both its merits and downsides. I do this with all incarnations of the franchise because I love Sailor Moon.

@ChibiNehellenia Every version of Sailor Moon has their problems and drawbacks. That includes the 90's anime.

The :usagi: franchise isn't all that popular anymore.

We don't have male fans with evil :twistedevil:girlfriends:twistedevil: who threw away :usagi: toy collection worth thousands of dollars behind their backs once they leave home for a few days. :yoshi::yoshi::yoshi::yoshi::yoshi::yoshi:

No English translation of the trailer yet?

I saw many Spanish fan subs and the trailers, at least those I saw, say that the movie is supervised by none other than Naoko Takeuchi herself.

I am curious to see an official source mention what the unofficial ones did.

She wrote the story that served as a basis for the S movie.

There was no trailer that said that the movie was supervised by her—the connotation of supervising is overseeing all the details in some kind of official capacity.

As the virus is currently rebounding in the country, let's hope it'd still open on schedule. :)
Honestly, I really doubt this will affect the film.

I heard many times in these months that Japan would have a rebound, but the government has not taken other measures.

Kimetsu no Yaiba movie was released in October. It was an incredible success.

That sucks so much, if that is the case, and that was another concern as to why I was vocal with my dislike on Crystal's first two seasons before, because I felt like Toei was actually going out of their way to deliberately hurt the franchise so that long time fans wouldn't watch it anymore, and I'm worried if Eternal flops, that's what will happen. :blue:
I guess Eternal will be a very heterogenic cinematic product. With ups and downs, wonderful animation next to sloppy animated parts, great frames and badly composed ones, great songs and mediocre background music...there will be a lot of pleasing and a lot of deceptive content, following the path of the Crystal franchise.

Can you go be pessimistic elsewhere? You're really ruining any excitement that this thread brings with your constant criticism and the anecdotes of "EvUl CrYsTaL FanS". If we are still reactive its because of literally every other person during Crystal's release specifically demanding or winning that it wasn't a sequel OR the 90s anime.

@JunoDX what does "deceptive content" even MEAN? I don't believe that anyone was misled about the series' direction at all.

No. I don't think people need to go other places to be pessimistic.

After all, this is a forum where you can comment your opinion.

Fine, I removed it. Happy, are you now?

Criticism is not hate too, and I'm not trying to be deliberately negative, I've been trying my best to focus on the positives and see it for what it is, and, considering that Sailor Moon isn't as popular as it used to be, I'm more worried it could end up falling into obscurity (and some nasty fans actually did make me afraid to express my views at some point). Not expecting perfection, but something that's fun and enjoyable to watch.
