Something I really loved seeing in the manga and musicals was Setsuna's love for King Endymion it was really the only time she was happy and smiled besides being with chibiusa. I felt bad for her being stuck at the time gate being all alone when she wanted love and dreams, and when Diana told her go to fight along side them you could see the sparkle in her eye an excitement she will get to see Endymion.
I'm hoping the new anime puts her love for him in and I wonder what you guys think of them together?

I think, by common sense, they'd make a perfect couple if they were ordinary people - too bad they're anything but ordinary. :(

Setsuna isn't explicitly in love with the king in the manga. She loves and cares for the whole royal family.

The musicals, however, are a different thing.

You're right in that it's never explicitly stated in the manga, but it was clear enough for the people producing the musicals to get the idea from the manga.

And it's clear enough for me, too. XD

I hope they include it in the new anime, as well.

I was feeling like about to say just that but somehow it stayed at the tip of my lips in the end - thx for bringing it out. :)

Me too. :D Would be awesome to see the triangular relationships - PGSM has also done that (& not as superficial as the Rei thing earlier in the anime), but Setsuna is a Senshi herself, so you can't just "banish" her, even tho she's already been kinda banished (by Serenity? XD ) to guard the Gate of Time. :P

Even if Setsuna did have feelings for Endymion, she respects Usagi/Serenity and wouldn't betray her. Same goes for Endymion being loyal to his wife.

I don't want Setsuna to outright confess her feelings (and like Sabr said, she has too much respect for Usagi to do that) but more hinting would be nice. :)
Even if there'd be no outright "betrayal," an elaboration about her pains regarding that would also be nice - & possibly how she's transcend her feeling for him into her mother-like love & protectiveness for Chibiusa, too.

I don't know whether I've had too much forbidden love in my own life, but I just don't wanna see that. :P Sorry, guys.

Yeah, that'd be a painful scene, & some mightn't be able to or easily take it, perhaps due to their own personal experiences, but it's for the enrichment of art & drama in the show. :)

I guess, but personally I think it's a boring story and a seen concept. :|

Pluto's wish to be with Endymion is just that: a wish. She's got too much self-control to let herself succumb to lust.

On the flip-side, Beryl let her lust and jealousy for Endymion consume her, and it led to the death of the Moon Kingdom. Imagine if Pluto did the same thing, especially with her abilities. She could very well decide to say "screw it all" and go back in time to screw everything up just for a one-night stand, but she knows she can't do that and she's content with knowing that.

I don't think unrequited love will ever be a boring or seen concept. One reason why Hamlet is still so popular is because it pulls off so many "old" themes very well: death, unrequited love, betrayal, etc. As long as humans fall in love, people will continue to experience unrequited love, which makes it a timeless story. I personally think that unrequited love (and I mean TRUE unrequited love, not just "oh I have a crush on someone who doesn't like me back"...true, passionate, selfless love for someone who simply does not return those feelings) is one of the most tragic things a person can possibly go through. How a person reacts to and deals with his or her unrequited feelings can make or break them; they can either transcend their feelings and become better, remaining "in love" in a higher, more selfless way (think Tomoyo from Cardcaptor Sakura), or they can be forever lost in their feelings of jealousy, anger, and isolation, and terrible things might happen.

Can you tell I have a lot of feelings about this subject? ^_^

Anyway, I especially don't think it's a tired concept in Sailor Moon. We've always been shown that Usagi belongs with Mamoru because of destiny. What would it be like if a third wheel was introduced to this precious, destiny-bonded couple? (Yeah, we saw some of that with the Sailor Stars anime...but the Pluto thing feels so much more pure than that).

Granted it's a recycled concept, but it's still interesting to see how that'd be reincarnated w/i the settings of Sailor Moon, just as the numerous other concepts recycled in that show.

That might exactly be the real reason why she was restricted by that taboo, breaking which means her death. :P

Again, that Seiya thing is still too superficial. Moreover, since s/he's not a Solar Syetem Senshi, s/he can be (& has actually been) conveniently "banished" back to where s/he came from. lol The Setsuna thing doesn't have that convenience, & that's also what makes it more interesting. :)

My thoughts exactly. In the 1990's anime that relationship was explored up to a point and taking into consideration the hints from the manga it's easy to think that a possible explanation for Pluto's concern over Small Lady is actually because the last one is a part of Endymion. I would like the new anime give some feedback in Setsuna's feelings and make her in a way more approachable, more human. Showing her ''weakness'' makes her in the same time more interesting as a character since till now she's only there to help the other senshi letting us know almost nothing about her thoughts her emotions herself in general. The most interesting aspect is that in this case it won't be a teenage (and maybe superficial) love but a mature and deep one. And as for the recycled motif... yeah that's true but that doesn't mean it will be less interesting. Because in a way the core of the sailor moon story is a classic one as well - forbidden love etc. I think it would give more depth to the anime... I hope those in charge will go for it!

Maybe the reason why she's so reserved in revealing her thoughts & emotions is that they're so painful (if not even taboo), so she just represses them, at least on the outside. Perhaps deep, deep down in her mind is a fierce turbulance, despite her outward calmness. :)

Like Maetch said, I love the contrast of Beryl vs Setsuna. There might be feelings there but she doesn't act upon them and it says much about her character. I'd be okay if they explored it a bit in the new anime as long as it wasn't too explicit. Subtlety is more powerful with stuff like this.

Subtlety would also match her personality. :)

That being said, I'd like to see in the new anime what it'd be like inside her dreams, in which she can freely express her true thoughts & feelings. :D
