Unfortunately they were introduced just to be killed off seconds later. Just like every other character in this terribly rushed arc :x
Yes, this. Even by manga standards the story felt too rushed and forced as a conclusion for Sailor Moon.
Maybe Takeuchi was very tired at the time & wanna finish it ASAP.

Speaking of Takeuchi, is it true that she was given free reign during this arc?

Get ready for my rant.

For complaints for the anime in general, three words: Break Up Arc. It was so poorly written. Don't get me wrong, a little drama can go a long way but really the whole storyline there was idiotic. For one thing, I was getting sick of Usagi crying about seeing Mamoru every time (and for that manner, why was he hanging out with Chibiusa when inevitably he would have to run into Usagi, hurting her again), but I would like to see some anger from her. He's the love of her life and he broke up with her, giving her some weak reasoning, so I thought she was entitled to some anger. I would've also liked if the threat Mamoru saw was legitimate. In the Dream arc of the manga, he wanted to distance between him and Usagi because he was cursed with an illness that he feared she would catch. She still stayed with him and the disease spread to her, so that would be my definition of a legitimate threat. And the conclusion was so awful. They get back together because now she knows why he dumped her? Lame. This ties in to the anger bit but she was too forgiving of him for keeping this to himself when he dumped her. It adds a little more insult to injury that Mamoru's future self sent those crap visions instead of, oh-say, a VILLAIN. And all to test their love? Wasn't that already tested last season? This whole arc was just terribly done and ruined the Black Moon story section of R for me.

Anyways, there's my rant. Sorry if others disagree but that's just how I feel. There are other things that bother me, but I wanted to vent this little issue of mine for now.

:)

This isn't a frustration per se, but I would have loved to see a little more background on the senshi during the Silver Millennium (or, heck, even Crystal Tokyo). Every time I see a lone drawing in the manga of the senshi as princesses, or they make some reference to Silver Millennium in any medium of the story, I just want to see more of it. Living a long time ago and on other planets? It would have been so cool to see how said planets looked as inhabitable kingdoms.

Of course, the manga was very short and didn't really allow for that much story to be told, but, I don't know, maybe a prequel of some kind would have been interesting. I especially would have wanted to know more about the Outers during that time, being the mysterious and solitary figures they were for pretty much the whole story.

Another frustration I have with "Sailor Moon" in general is Luna telling Usagi that she's the chosen one and tasks her to find the the three other Soldiers and their princess by giving her a brooch transform into the Sailor Soldier, Sailor Moon without at least recognizing that she's actually
Spoiler: show
the reincarnation of the Moon Princess, Serenity.

Well she didn't know Usagi was Princess Serenity so this makes sense.

Complaints on the break up arc in R and to an extent, cape boy himself as seen in the 90s series, note the post is before Crystal came out

I hate the break up arc in R because it was pointless, a dumb test by king lavender geez if you doubt she loves you or that you doubt your love for her after all these years then maybe she's not the one for you mister 2098 face, not to mention the stupid timing, really, right after they've gotten back together, first Beryl killed them in the moon, being reincarnated with no memory, finally remember who they were but just then having chiba kidnapped and brainwashed in Classic then only for chiba to die after being healed and memories back, Usagi makes her wish and boom the memory loss again now in the Ali-En arc yadda yadda yadda moonlight knight (which was an impovement to his character wish he stuck around in that form) takes his place until his memory returns officially. now things were finally hunky-dory in chiba x usa loveydovey land, until a new enemy appears as well as a mysterious child that the enemy is after after aka your own kid mr. I'm king of earth in the 30th century, god help us, this time could have been perfect for the two of them to take care of Chibiusa and learn how to raise a child thus making them get closer as a couple plus more focus on dealing with the enemy without the unnecessary distraction of these two suddenly breaking up the way they suddenly got together in the first place. And future king endymoron picks this chaotic time to test their love? I would never do that. Stupid stupid stupid plan, making poor Usagi suffer like that all to see if your love can withstand the test of forced separation by sending dreams to your past self right after getting your first chance to be together. They also could have ended it in the sleeping beauty episode but nooooo it had to continue like we need Usagi to suffer more, sure chiba was suffering too but what do expect from the same nightmare night after night with King Freddy Krueger invading your mind showing Usagi dying? Lover or not nobody wants to see the person you protect every day getting killed in a dream. And I'm not buying that miracle romance hogwash either, only after the Crystal appears and identities discovered and that whole zoi stab thing do they fall for one another, sure they warmed up to each other leading up to that but that was just going from acquaintance to friends, as far as that in the anime version is concerned Chiba only cares for Usagi because she was once Princess Serenity, obligated by "destiny" to be with her with the past sending him dreams forcing him to find the princess and the knowledge of crystal tokyo/chibiusa existing in the future forces him to stay with her plus protecting the world and that's it. Serenity could have been anyone and what if it were say... Minako? Chiba and Usagi would never be a couple in the anime if that was the case, I can see them as friends maybe but lover's? Not if you take Usagi being Serenity out if the equation. As for Usagi crushing on tux ha! Just a school girl infatuation, she's does the same with Motoki, the only difference is the rescuing honestly I wish Motoki was tuxedo or anyone else for that matter, anyone but this guy.

Of course the manga/PGSM is different, their friendship/relationship develops before identities are known which is the better way to do it if you ask me and there was no stupid break up arc.
THANK YOU!!!

My biggest frustrations were during the filler arc in R, even though i liked this arc overall, something that got me frustrated was the senshi episodes where they got their power up.

The episode centers around them and they fight the cardian one on one and then get an awesome new attack. And yet... it doesn't kill the monster, all 4 senshi had new attacks that seemed powerful (especially jupiter thunder dragon) and the monster just screams and is still alive. ^_^' ok so why bother giving them a new attack if it does the same thing.

Then as usual the sneshi say ( Imayo, Sera Mun) and sailor moon kills  the weakened monster just like every other episode. For once the should have let someone else get a kill.

Princess Serenity being blonde. I'm serious, it irks me SO much! I think it's because I started being a fan after reading the manga so that's the "true" version of the character to me, but she just looks so ethereal with silver hair and looks so common as a blonde.

If you like her blonde keep it to yourself, by the way.

I know...it seems as if the only way to get respect or be one of the "fan favorites" is to be a member of the Moon family -- or blonde! :minako: :usagi: :haruka:

Okay, it does makes kind of makes sense. But I would really love to see Usagi ask Luna some questions about who Princess Serenity was and what she looked like. To clarify, I was simply frustrated that Luna has told Usagi to find the other guardians and their princess, as wasn't believeable to me compared to Artemis saying the exact SAME thing to Minako.

Pretty much. (I also don't understand why Lethe's attack was "Myosotis Alpestris," which is a type of forget-me-not. Surely that would make more sense as an attack for Mnemosyne? I honestly don't understand any of the choices Naoko made when she wrote that arc. The Dream arc is probably the best written arc of the manga. How did she follow it up with Stars???)
Although I agree with you about Dream, I am a bit shocked at all of the Stars bashing I've read through in this thread. Most fans I've met consider it to be their favorite season, along with and/or S (Infinity). I think Naoko followed up Dream with Stars because she wanted to bring the entire story round full circle, explain the origin of sailor senshi (and answer fan questions about if there are other sailor senshi beyond our solar system), explain the connection of all of SM's enemies, and really develop and make Usagi grow as a character through having her go through the most physically and emotionally challenging battle ever. I really do think it is a moot point to try to criticize that arc for how it handled the other characters, because the manga version always focused on the central plot and Usagi more than the others for its entire run. The other senshi got only a couple of chapters of development, and most of the villains got little to no development outside of main baddies like Beryl, Wiseman, Nehellnia, and Galaxia. I also think that a lot of the "rehash" points you brought up don't bode, because 1. In the manga, the Starlights never attacked the senshi and were pretty much on their side from day one. 2. Not in that they were revived evil and Sailor Moon had to take them all down herself to get to Galaxia. 3. The Starlights actually knew who their princess was. The Inners did not. 4. Chibi Chibi turned out to not be a sister or daughter to Usagi or Chibi Usa in both versions. 5. Sailor Moon didn't have to take on and defeat 9 people almost by herself though in those first two acts.

As for more of the 90s anime, I agree about the complaints about the Animamates obliviousness to the Star Seeds. As we saw in the final battle though, 90s anime Galaxia had bit of a god complex, and loved being able to manipulate, verbally attack, and have others serve her. However, I think the Inners got just as much time and character development as the Starlights did in that arc. The only senshi that got shafted in the 90s anime were the Outers. I also think that although Maker and Healer have their sassy moments, I don't think they are completely unlikeable characters. Plus at least for me, Seiya / Star Fighter is one of the most lovable senshi ever introduced in Sailor Moon and is one of my very favorite characters  .

I think part of the reason for all the backlash against Stars is that back in the day in the 90s when the only way to watch the final season was through ye olde VHS VKLL fansubs that only an elite niche in the fandom had access to, those who were lucky enough to watch Stars hyped it so much as like the greatest thing since sliced bread or something and it kind of obtained this sort of mythical status for many of us for years. Then when digi fansubs finally came a long and it was easier for everyone to gain access to the Stars fansubs, we realized the gatekeepers of the season had hyped it up too much and that it was only a pretty good season. There's nothing wrong with being pretty good and I still enjoy Stars myself, but I can see how that can feel like a betrayal for a lot of fans who grew up surrounded by all the mythical hype around Stars as this grande epic lost season most of us didn't get to see back then. It also feels like a bit of a double standard because it always seemed like the fans who hyped Stars up so much were the same ones who bashed SuperS to death even though Stars had almost the same amount of problems SuperS did and SuperS actually had a more coherent narrative than Stars.

I hate the way Mars Flame Sniper looks in the anime. Isn't it supposed to be her strongest attack? So why does it look like a neon red arrow? Fire Soul and Burning Mandala look stronger than that mess.

Interesting take on a situation I didn't know a lot fans had to go through. Back in the day I was lucky enough to order the VKLL Fansubbed videos of S, SuperS, and Sailor Stars through Sailor Mall.com before they closed and those seasons ever premiered dubbed on Toonami. I didn't realize the episodes were so hard to get.

As for SuperS / Sailor Stars, I think the reason fans bash it more than Sailor Stars is because Sailor Stars didn't focus on Chibi Moon, brought back the Outers, and had darker, more mature story lines than SuperS like S. I totally agree with you though that the central plots of both of those seasons were both equally bad because unlike the first three seasons, the villains accomplished absolutely nothing till the main bad villainess got fed up and started a full out attack on Tokyo themselves  . Of course, we all know now that this was only done because of the manga being released and written at the same time.

I wish the senshi's relatives had more onscreen time. The mom, Ikuko, is the only relative that is a constant recurring character. Rei's lecherous grandpa was in a lot of classi episodes. I wish he had more screen time because he was very funny. Also, the anime never shows Ami's mom; she made a few appearances in the manga.

If you live in a city with a Chinatown you could have bought the VKLL tapes as well. That's how my sister bought them. Because of this, episode 200 is my favorite of all time even though Stars isn't my favorite season. That honor goes to the Black Moon arc.

As for the topic at hand, I hated how Sailor Moon calls herself the champion of justice but yet was willing to kill Katarina for stealing Minako's boyfriend. Some champion of justice you are.

She was young, inexperienced, and VERY stupid at the time, so cut her a break for letting her emotions screw up her judgment.

^And if this was real life and she managed to kill Katarina she would have had her ass hauled to jail so no.
