Should there ever be a new Sailor Moon manga?

Sailor Moon Crystal is not a new story. Where have you been? I'm all for some new manga whether that's a sequel, a prequel, a spin-off etc. I'll even settle for short story but Naoko is too lazy for that. We're still waiting on those updated art books she promised us eight years later lol.

I wish Naoko made a new alternate take herself. Maybe something closer to what she originally invisioned with cyborg Ami, gang leader Mako, and everyone dying in the end? That could be fun. Unfortunately she's too lazy to even draw a new short story.
Really? We're calling her lazy because she hasn't done something she has no obligation to do and evidently no interest in doing? I mean, she already wrote a fun, alternate reality side story after Stars ended - Parallel Sailor Moon. Clearly for her, the story she wanted to tell is done. Just because she's currently living her best life with her family, managing her business, and not writing more manga at the moment (Sailor Moon or otherwise) doesn't mean she's lazy. Why shouldn't she be allowed to just enjoy life and all the money she's already made? Entirely new content, especially directly from her, would be amazing, but we're not owed it. Calling her "lazy" is gross.

This reeks of sarcasm. Who in the world would really want to see all that? :)

I don’t know why she needs to.

The manga ran for about 4-5 years. Plus the supplementary Sailor V manga and some side stories. You got a 200 episode series plus 3 movies and multiple tv special. A live action tv series. A new shorter anime. Multiple musicals. A light novel.

We don’t need another manga arc. Just let the series die. All things must come to an end. You have plenty of material to get your Sailor Moon fix

I think she left that to the fans. With so much fan content that time. I think she likes and is inspired by fan content and doesn't mind OC's.

If quitting one's job and never working again for some two decades doesn't qualify as "lazy", then what is the meaning of "lazy", at all? Naoko doesn't owe anybody anything, yes, but fans don't owe her anything either, and have no obligation to pay for her leisure life style either. Yet it's solely thanks to her fans and fan money that she was able to enjoy her luxurious life style for over two decades, without ever working again.

Sailor Moon is one of the most successful franchises in the history of Japan and in the world, making billions of dollars of revenue. If my fans were throwing billions of dollars at me for almost three decades, I know for a fact that I would do something to return that favor. I don't really see how fans expecting Naoko to take her butt off her couch and produce at least one volume of new manga per decade is "gross". If she was drawing just one manga page per month, she could do that. But even one page per month is too much hassle for her. Checking once a month her royalty payments is the only effort she is willing to do for Sailor Moon and her fans, apparently. I think "lazy" is quite appropriate definition for Naoko, and quite mild in this situation.

Early retirement =/= being lazy. Please produce photographic evidence that Naoko spends all day on her couch, watching daytime TV and eating bonbons. You have no idea what she does on a daily basis. She's obviously involved to some extent with things like Crystal and the musicals, overseeing international and merchandise licensing, etc. She can't take a break from writing if she wants to? Maybe she has writer's block. Maybe she just hasn't hit on a new idea that really excites her yet. She's not George R. R. Martin. She hasn't promised new manga and then failed to deliver after, what, five or more years? She created a manga. People buy the manga. She collects royalties. Her initial writing of the manga is the only thing she needed to do to get those royalties. If Stephen King never wrote another book after Carrie, do you think he should have been prohibited from collecting royalties for any sales of that book or sales of adaptations of it in 2019?

Naoko is not lazy because she's not presently interested in writing more Sailor Moon.
You are not entitled to more content from her.
Her not generating new content doesn't mean she's not entitled to continue to reap the rewards of her past work.
Just because her work became popular and accrued many fans around the world, which has allowed her to live the life of her dreams, does not mean she needs to live the rest of her life in some kind of indentured servitude to us.
Just because you think you'd continue to make new manga if you were she does not mean that's how she should act.

In summary: Get over yourself.

I can as well ask you to provide photographic evidence that she DOES NOT spend all day on her couch, watching daytime TV and eating bonbons.

She can't take a break...
Maybe she just hasn't hit...
She hasn't promised new...
doesn't mean she's not entitled...
does not mean she needs to live the rest of her life...
does not mean that's how she should act...
I have addressed all these points above already. Naoko can do with her life and her money whatever she wants. Much like fans can do whatever they want with their lives and their money, without being obliged to anybody for their past achievements.

You are free to say that fans expecting at least some new works from Naoko during twenty years is gross, and I'm free to say that fans continuing to pay Naoko for something she has done twenty years ago, and doesn't care about any longer, is gross. I hope you have no problems with that?

And no, there is no need to repeat she doesn't owe anybody anything and can do whatever she wants. I never argued against this point.

I agree with comments. Naoko is done with Sailor Moon. She could be making more royalties if she decided to get her stuff digital like so many other companies do.

I just don't want to pay 37$CDN for one of the Eternal Editions of Sailor Moon. The whole idea of girl falling in love with a suited gentleman is a recurring theme in her works. If I can do it, I don't want to be considered lazy.

Would it be cool if Naoko ever made more SM manga or allowed someone else to do one like Saint Seiya author or even Akira Toriyama did? Sure

Will she though? Doubtful. Keep in mind that Naoko thus far never showed any interest in new SM stories, just alternative versions so i wouldnt count on anything new as sad as it is

Should one blame the company who lost the PQ Angel's manuscript?

I'd be frustrated after doing all that work and the best explanation is "we lost it."

It's been two decades and she still hasn't fixed Uranus' arm going Mr Fantastic. The woman is laziness incarnate.
I think we should focus on how the manga ended two decades ago and fans still can’t move on to something else.

It’s finished. Warts and all. We don’t need a revised improved version or a follow up or for Naoko to become the Japanese JK Rowling and be unable to refuse to let her biggest cash cow go and answer questions that don’t need to be answered.

Is Naoko lazy? I dunno maybe I dont know her

Does not making more material of a story she ended before the 21st century make her lazy? No

I mean... That's more a sign that she and her editors at Kodansha aren't super observant/detail-oriented than it is a sign that she's lazy, but okay... I'm sure she churned out 40-60 pages of manga every month for five years, more in months where side stories or chapters of Sailor V appeared, by being the incarnation of laziness.

Hm. I'm either, or. This isn't my manga but as a creator my own series, I'd def keep creating content if I could do so for as long as I could.

I hear a lot about her trails while getting the show done and how things were changed.

A question I'd like to know is that even though she is done, there was still things that needed and could be explored from exisiting content. Why can't these things be explored. Or do we know what the future of Sailor Moon is for certain after Crystal?

What if they did make a new series or have one planned. It'd be a shocker.
