Should there ever be a new Sailor Moon manga?

Really? We're calling her lazy because she hasn't done something she has no obligation to do and evidently no interest in doing? I mean, she already wrote a fun, alternate reality side story after Stars ended - Parallel Sailor Moon. Clearly, for her, the story she wanted to tell is done. Just because she's currently living her best life with her family, managing her business, and not writing more manga at the moment (Sailor Moon or otherwise) doesn't mean she's lazy. Why shouldn't she be allowed to just enjoy life and all the money she's already made? Entirely new content, especially directly from her, would be amazing, but we're not owed it. Calling her "lazy" is gross.
It's weird how fandom does not understand. She has a life . She is married, and has kids. As for the manga. I think she just did.60 Chapter is an lot. Also not like the ending ended on a cliff hanger.

I'm just glad content creators can make their very own adaptation.

Heard about the news of that Darth Vader fan film and the mess that Disney or someone from Disney (William Chappel I think) started monetizing it and did no work at all.

At the end of the day if there's gonna be more stories it should be Naoko's decision and I doubt if she wants to add more I think she's pretty done with SM in terms of making new content from the source, the most we gonna see in the future it's just gonna be new adaptions so our best hope that future adaptions are better

if SM was mine I'd make it last longer than 5 arcs but it would not be precure levels of length it would just be a nice solid 7 to 9 arcs I think that's long enough

She hasn't promised new manga and then failed to deliver after, what, five or more years?
She did promise us those updated artbooks eight or so years ago and failed to deliver. And I know what you're going to say. How do we know it's Naoko's fault for that and not Kodansha's? It's true we don't know what happened so until we do both of them share responsibility for that fiasco, in my book.

The last one was 2013 which coincided with Crystal
Don't forget the recent mini-manga editions and the novelizations that feature manga panels. She has been reheating the same stale food for decades and milking that cash cow without producing any new content. Of course, it's her prerogative to financially exploit her work to the fullest extend but that doesn't make her above reproach. She's not Putin. :p Fans should be allowed to criticize her decisions without being attacked or shamed for doing so. We had the same issue when we learned she demanded high licensing fees in underdeveloped markets. Again, she's entitled to do that and we're entitled to call her out on that. Some fans take it too personally when people criticize their "Queen".

Like any person Miss Takeuchi is not above criticism but I think its silly to be upset there isn’t “new” material for a story that ended in 1995/6.

I’m no fan of “the product you bought is no longer relevant here’s the new and slightly barely improved version” but it is what it is.

Can we not appreciate that a series that ended in the mid-90s is still being talked about today even if the stuff keeping it relevant is uhh less than stellar (talking of Crystal and the Viz redub of course but that is super mega subjective)

Even the disappointingly slavishly faithful to the manga Light Novel is nice even if it missed a big opportunity to do something different and unique with pre existing material like the Digimon Adventure or Pokemon light novels did.

Naoko hasn't done aything in ages. She os too lazy to do these new artworks we were promised for the 20th anniversary. She didn't even drew new cover art for the Sailor V Kanzenban edition. I have abandoned any hope for more manga over a decade ago, knowing she didn't even produced another complete series.

If that were due to her being "lazy," then we fans would also be responsible for it, for enabling her "laziness" by continuing to support her current living standard via keeping buying stuff of the franchise to this day, despite the lack of genuinely brand new content produced throughout the decades - we're at least equally responsible, if not more so.

Actually, I 100% agree that they share responsibility for that. It's not like Naoko's done no work towards the art book re-release (she's done a handful of new illustrations at the very least), but it's obviously not something she has any passion for, because if this were really something she wanted to see happen, it would have happened by now. At the same time, it's also obviously not something Kodansha really cares about either. If they did, they wouldn't have started advertising it as coming soon in magazines and then never following through. And it's not like it's something that requires anything extensive from Naoko apart from new cover art (which they obviously already have) and maybe a signature on a contract (which they also probably have) since the first art book was advertised as an omnibus re-release of the first three art books. Unless some of that art work has been lost the way they lost a chunk of her manuscript for PQ Angels, the only explanation I can think of for the lack of this project's materialization is that Kodansha and Naoko aren't really interested in it. Maybe they did some market research and found there wasn't a lot of interest among Japanese fans? Who knows. But I'm sure Osabu will keep telling us it's coming until the day he dies.

Anyway.

I'm no stranger to criticizing Naoko. I have enormous love and respect for her and the manga, but I was the one who started the Manga Art Errors thread wherein I've pointed out a number of inconsistencies, weird art choices, and other things. I've criticized her numerous times for repeatedly recycling character designs, her repeated use of non-consensual kisses (generally framed as being romantic), plot holes and inconsistencies in the manga, weak characterization of anyone not named Usagi or Mamoru, how sloppy and self-derivative the Stars arc was, her problematic depiction of LGBT characters throughout her work, etc. I'm the first to say she's not beyond criticism. I have no problem with people criticizing her; I have a problem with the way people criticize her.

For example: Fans calling her lazy for not doing something they want her to do or something they say they would do if they were in her shoes is absurd. The relentless Ferrari jokes are tiresome. And you can criticize her for milking that Sailor Moon cash cow, I guess, but...it's not like she's the only author to ever do that? It's pretty standard for books (manga and non-manga alike) to get multiple re-issues over the years without any differences apart from cover art and maybe some internal illustrations (if any). There have been numerous editions of the Harry Potter books over the years; is Naoko milking her cash cow any more than Jo is? At least Naoko isn't marring her series' legacy by tweeting out that during the Silver Millennium, Queen Serenity used the Silver Crystal to keep the palace chamber pots sparkling clean.

In short: There are valid things to criticize Naoko about, and there are things that are just silly and come off as entitled whining. She isn't perfect, but she also doesn't owe anyone anything. She can do what she wants with her series, and you can do what you want with your money/support.

I have never been a fan of the manga on it's own and it sounds to me like in this day and age if she did feel inspired for whatever reason to make new stuff that she is kind of a control freak so any adaptation that came of it would not be to my taste. I would rather support active manga artists whose work I enjoy more. Like her husband Yoshihrio Togashi may be working at a snails pace but hes still forcing himself to push something out at least once a year and Rumiko Takahashi is 61 and shows no signs of slowing down at all shes already starting on her next series and Akira Toriyama may not be working on manga by himself but he is working with Toyotaro on the super manga and writing scripts for movies and stuff.

There have been rumors for a while now that Naoko's been helping her husband with his manga. If that's the case, maybe she'll return to writing her own manga again once his is done or he's able to work on it by himself.
That is honestly such a silly rumor. The hiatus chart wouldn't look like this if that was the case.
Hiatus Chart

He's as much a control freak like Naoko he doesn't want much help and thats why he ended Yu Yu Hakusho early and why he takes such long breaks from Hunter x Hunter. That rumor started just because he changed up his art style a bit which is not strange at all for a manga artist especially him his art style is usually changing all the time. I know it's fun to imagine a wife ghost drawing for her husband but it really doesn't add up to me.

Even if that were really the case, that'd only mean she'd never, since his would never be done. :P

Yeah i also dont believe she's helping working on her husbands manga (at least not in a big way), it doesnt make much sense with how slow the manga goes.

It would be cool if she allowed someone else to work on a spinooff but doesnt seem like its ever going to happen
